I discovered this movie a year ago and also wished I knew about it sooner. It's incredibly funny and the cast is perfect. During the "second performance" in the movie, the choreography of each character and what they all do as they silently mess things up behind the stage during a live performance is a fantastic sequence.
The same thing happens in the play - the entire set spins around and the cast are doing the backstage and onstage action simultaneously. I've known people who did the show and they said it's absolutely _nuts_ because the "offstage" action is mostly mute and has to time to the lines of the play happening on the other side.
The first time I heard of this movie was when I saw the poster in the lobby as I was walking out from another movie. It was mildly intriguing. Then I rented the VHS tape years later and fell off my chair laughing. It has since become one of my favorite movies. Yes, my wife and I did some community theater and tried desperately to get the artistic director and the reading commitee to chose it for the next season's roster. The Artistic director shot doen the idea and told us we just didn't have good enough actors to pull it off. Besides, the play requires a rotating stage, and we didn't have one.A few years ago I had the pleasure of seing a production in Montreal starring Martha Burns in the Carol Burnett role. It was wonderful.
I saw the play in London and almost fell out of my seat laughing. A friend said to me, "You know, the third act was weak." And I said, "If doesn’t matter, because by the end of the second act, I was weak." The movie was splendid, and I keep re-watching it. Wonderful movie, with actors who were comedically brilliant. RIP, John Ritter and Christopher Reeve.
Watch Deathtrap for more Christopher Reeve movies. It’s fantastic and like this, it’s the film version of the play. Michael Caine, Christopher Reeve, Dyan Cannon.
We thought you might like a movie about putting on a play, and the struggles encountered. We imagine you have had your fair share of difficulties in staging before. It was great to hear you talk about your personal experiences with productions, and showing your appreciation for the people you worked with. Yes, this is another ensemble cast movie, and we thought there were some great performances. It is a shame that several of the cast have died since (Denholm Elliott, John Ritter, Christopher Reeve), but we are happy to have their performances recorded for future generations (even if bits of the movie are dated). Reeve had quite a carrier outside of Superman. You should check out The Bostonians and Street Smart. We loved watching the movie and a couple of years ago, the Louisville Actors Theatre performed the play and we attended twice. They built the stage on a giant rotating platform, which turned 180 degrees between acts so you saw the backstage act from the "backstage" part of the set. They have a couple of videos up on TH-cam for the production.
I have been in this Noises Off situation before where an actor was "needing motivation" on how to move a stool from stage left to stage right. Seriously, it took the director 20 minutes to finally get through the scene it held everything up. But the guy needed motivation from the director with the one-line he had in the play. I felt the director feel like Michael Caine in that situation. "you don't need motivation. I just need the stool moved for the scene to continue. Just do it"
Off topic a bit but have you ever heard of the play "The Rise and Fall of Little Voice"? I played the role of Little Voice who is a terribly shy girl who impersonates old singers like Judy Garland and Shirley Bassey when lonely and missing her deceased father. That role was fun but it was a crazy one to do, kinda like a character with multiple personalities jumping from one impersonation to another.
If you love live plays, then you will love this film. I am taking a break this month from randomly selecting recommend films from subscribers since I spent all summer doing that. However, I needed to publish this one because it was a PayPal donation. I will continue with random recommendation selections in November
Here is a question for you, would you be willing to review LaserUnicorn's Kung Fury? It isn't really a movie, being only half an our long (although I don't know if there is a specific minimum qualification for movie length), but it is on TH-cam. It is ridiculously over the top and well beyond. The Mrs. hates it and I love it. But I. Not sure if a review would work for the channel's structure.
@@CalebWatchesMovies I suspect you will either be entertained or annoyed. Possibly both. It is a low budget Kickstarter produced film, but if you like retrowave, time traveling, Kung Fu fights and laser raptors, you might like Kung Fury.

I also love the second run because the action behind the stage is all muted, which makes it funnier

"Doors and sardines! That's comedy! That's farce! That's... LIFE..."
So good

I would love to see this play live

It is so enjoyable. One of my favorites
I just watched this the other day for the first time and it was the only movie I've seen that was on par with Clue.
Absolutely, It's a wonderful farce

Haha. Oh I have some amazingly bad memories watching the live production of Deathtrap in college
Deathtrap is awesome!!! As is Sleuth!
Absolutely LOVE this movie!!

@@CalebWatchesMovies if you end up showing it to a class, I guess the lesson would be, "don't be any of these actors".

I have not heard of this play, but it sounds very interesting. It sounds like an emotional piece
Never seen it.
Hope you get to my reviews in the future.

I do not see why it wouldn't qualify for movie status, maybe more of a short film. I am not against it. I will add it to the list

You *never* saw DeathTrap?
I've seen the play
