Shimo didn’t switch sides; she was never on the Skar King’s side. He was just making her do his bidding because of the agony that Crystal caused her, but she never wanted to do it. Once Godzilla confirmed she was free of his control, she finally got the chance blast him.
Yeah I took that roar from Goji to mean something along the lines of "Hey you should be good-to-go now, so blast him...or I will!"

I really like Minus One for being serious, but I also like the MonsterVerse because I love watching giant monsters fight each other. Wanting a more serious Godzilla movie is fine, but the haters tend to forget that Godzilla's versatile, so he can be serious or goofy, lol
The haters of this movie clearly never watched the old 70s Godzilla flicks. This was such a fun movie.

Most people are criticizing the fact that this is supposed to be the same universe as the 2014 Brian Cranston movie (and Kong Skull Island) aka the "realistic" Godzilla (and Kong). No one is hating on the idea of a goofier Godzilla, by that logic this movie shouldn't exist because the ORIGINAL Godzilla is a serious movie. They're saying it's kind of a weird change cuz it kinda is. Still a fun time tho 😇
The sfx were pretty good but the dialog was horrendous.

Loved this movie. You are 1005 right. Not every movie needs to be a masterpiece. Sometimes, you just want to watch a fun movie where monsters punch each other in the face.

I love the natural progression of the bond between Kong and Suko. Even with that "I'll beat a motherfucker with another motherfucker" moment. And the fact that Jia was prophesized as a hero who can rouse Mothra from her slumber is amazing, same with her meeting other members of her tribe. Also, I not only love the "Aw, shut up" punch on the ape annoyingly running his mouth a few seconds before Kong met Skar King, but the part where Kong lobs a rock and creams the one ape in the head.
Fun fact: Dan Stevens also played The Beast in the remake of Beauty And The Beast.
In the OG series, Mothra is basically Godzilla's girlfriend/wife. She had to come put him in his place.

Ngl the mother and daughter relationship made me tear up as well. This is easily the best film of the monster-verse in my opinion. A great balance of human emotion with monster action taking center stage! Sadly the director has chosen not to return for another sequel but hopefully the films keep this momentum.
They're open to him coming back after he does his A24 film. And he definitely wants to do another one.

This is probably my new favorite of the Monsterverse. Saw it three times in theaters. I've watched it twice at home now too. Great visual storytelling, epic music, and the movie had a lot of heart.

This was the first of this series of movies that felt like an adventure and I enjoyed it. Sure there were some things I thought were dumb, but it was more fun than the others. And the actress playing the girl, I am just truly impressed by her acting in this. I hope she returns in these movies again if they keep making them.

Some of the Great Apes have individual names: according to TV Tropes, according to the novel, the one with the blind right eye 👁 is fittingly called "One-Eye" and is apparently one of Skar King's children alongside Suko and other infants 🤔😓. The one that Kong tries to save from falling off the cliff but ends up having to kick him off the cliff for real in self-defense because he was a sorry little ingrate who still attempted to kill Kong after he had just saved his life 😠😡🙄😒🤨, his name was Stone Fist 👊 ✊️ 🤛 🤜. Another one of the initial attackers along with One-Eye and Stone Fist was called Catcher. Another one of Skar King's goons, the one crushed by Kong's giant swinging stone trap was apparently called Knob. The ape who was Suko's caretaker whom Skar King brutally murdered in front of Suko and Kong, his name was Gnarled Finger, and while "friend" might be going a bit far, the novelization reveals that, prior to meeting Kong, Gnarled Finger was the only Great Ape to treat Suko with any measure of kindness by letting him eat the scraps of his meals and shielding 🛡 him from being attacked by the other apes 🥺😣😔. And the Great Ape slave that Kong helps up and beats up the bully abusing him, while not named in the movie, was named "Boots" by the movie's vfx animators 🤔😉.

I'm a lifelong Godzilla fan. I watched Minus One. But I also watched this and I love it. My son's also a huge Godzilla fan and he loves it. Even my wife and daughter love it. This is just a fun movie.

i liked the movie for what it was a fun action flick. it was nice to see a more lighthearted take on the franchise that reminds me alot of old tv shows vs the sense of horror in other versions like the new godzilla minus one or skull island where the focus is to make them appear like unbelievable unstoppable creatures.
What’s really cool is that this movie shows that they can make a movie with just the Kaiju without the people. The Kaiju are just as expressive and emotive as the humans in this and I thought that was pretty awesome. Just for that, GXK was much more than the campy mess that people thought it was going to be.

I loved this movie. Loved Minus One as well. Now Kong is KING Kong. And Godzilla want ALL that smoke. This movie is a good example of how you can make something with some actual heart while still toeing the studio bottom line. Just give people what they want. Just deliver. Promise something....and then let the movie deliver what it's promising. Don't kneecap something by trying to subvert expectations. DELIVER on the expectations. Top Gun Maverick understood this. I feel like the Monsterverse movies understand this. This one especially. Much more than anything Disney has produced in who knows how long. I hope they make fifty more of these. And Toho keeps making their's too. There's a real appetite for this stuff if they'll just make it right..

I loved this movie ❤ I’m not really a big fan of Kong , Godzilla is my favorite but them fighting together was great .. and I loved Mothra , someone said it looks like Godzilla is smiling when he sees her again , they also say each one that is reborn remembers the past , but I’ve never really watched the old ones to know if that’s true lol .. but the way she knocked Godzilla down was funny , it’s like telling him to good 😂 can understand why she’s the queen of monsters and he’s the king

This movie doesn't pretend to be something it's not, and in my opinion, the human interactions were mixed in great in comparison to some of the others in the franchise. Unlike Godzilla minus one which was more of a redemption horror movie this .Obie was big time fun and entertaining. Those are basically some of the reasons we go to the movies isn't it?

Love the reaction and this movie! Saw it twice in theatres and rented when it was streaming. It wasnt super serious and had alot of goofy moments like using suko as nunchucks and kongs pocket sand in egypt lmao but that was part of the charm. It felt like the classic movies from forever ago but with our modern technology. Very entertaining either way.

this was a rare time where the humans didn't annoy me, especially the main characters. i watch these films for the monsters, not the humans so i usually don't care for the humans in these stories. however, they had a purpose, they all had their roles, did their jobs, actually helped and served the story. i was fine w/them.
this is probably my 2nd favorite in the franchise after skull island. plus, i'm glad kong is no longer alone.

This movie is a fun good time. It was like a wrestling match. And it was marketed as such. So let's enjoy it for what it is.
Its not explored in the movie since you can only add so much in 2 hours but basically the mom and Jia lived with Kong on Hollow Earth until an inicdent where they almost died had it not been for Kong looking back while they were getting attacked by a swarm. That encounter made the mom ultra protective and thats why they moved to the surface and had her enroll in school, in the hopes that she could have a normal life
We enjoyed this too. I love kong i hate that eventually he dies. It makes me so sad. I love Caesar in the planet of the apes too. Lover his character so much. They really pull at my heart strings.

MonsterVerse films are a great throwback to the origial Godzilla films (Showa Era)
The thing is, before the two films in the Monsterverse that put the two together, Godzilla and Kong’s attitudes were reversed; Godzilla was the one who just wanted everyone to be quiet and leave him alone and only fought when some MFers didn’t take the hint, and Kong was the one who woke up ready to fight anything that came into his field of vision.
Prior to this movie, the only time Kong ever allowed another creature to live was in the original King Kong vs Godzilla, when he let a giant octopus live, and that’s also the only movie he ever backed down from a fight, when Godzilla’s atomic breath scared him in their first fight. Aside from that movie, Kong never, ever, backed down from a fight, and NEVER let anything he attacked live; it was always to the death from the first moment he decided to throw down. Godzilla might let certain opponents live if they backed down and stopped causing issues, so you at least had a chance to live with him.
Now, the roles are reversed; Kong just wants to be left alone, only fights when he needs to, and is willing to let some opponents live if killing them is unnecessary, and Godzilla is the one who’s basically a serial killer, going around obliterating any other monsters for the merest of perceived slights.
We are getting another one in 26 i cant wait
I just want to point out that the Godzilla fans that don't like this film are the vast minority. They just happen to be a _vocal_ minority.

The only problem I had with this movie was the special effects. Most of the time everything looked great, but when it was pure monster on monster action the effects looked - odd. Like the proportions weren't done right on the computer that rendered them or something, made it look plastic-y or something, if that makes sense? But it never really took me out of the experience, and I loved the movie. I still think King of the Monsters is the best in the MV series of movies, but this one is pretty close I gotta admit.

The director of these last two movies has officially parted ways with the next sequel, citing timing conflicts with his upcoming project. GvK and GxK are a lot of fun, but I want them to dip their toe back into more grounded or serious territory again after these two. While the crazier tone of these movies hold merit in the grand history of Godzilla and Kong movies, I found the tone of 2014 Godzilla, and of Kong: Skull Island, overall more intriguing with the final product. King of the Monsters just didn't have the most interesting human story to follow, in my opinion, but was otherwise exciting as far as building the monsters of the Monsterverse up and bringing beloved characters.
