Everyone is saying that their own instrument is solely responsible for keeping the tempo. But thats not true, its a team effort. Theres not a sole instrument that keeps the beat. While there are some that make it easier to, like percussion, no one instrument does it by itself, so stop fighting about it.
I'm a flute player and I love the flute, oboe, and partly clarinet melody! We are doing it for my coming up concert and I'm excited to play this one! It's the one part where people can hear us.
@@its_fprime I had the timpani part but school got shut down the week of the concert competition. I never cared too much for band but this song really got my hyped up.
i love the flutes solo ( flute player ) and i love when the Saxs start to slow down . it sounds like amazing . like i love it all but those are the main .😍
I am a trombone and sadly the trombone part sucks, except when u get to play triple forte right in the saxs ears and they have their ear drums blown out
I'm very happy that my band director is having us play this, especially for our contest. After hearing this, I really can't wait to play it in class again.
I remember when my class played this, my music teacher told the audience that the last one was a calm music that the students were working on. Me and the boys who are all on low brass: IT'S OUR TIME TO SHINE
WOW! I played Counterbalance in my fall concert and will play it in midfest, so I looked up other pieces by Todd Stalter. Man, this guy could compete with John Williams. Not really, but he's still great. He's my new second favorite composer (sorry Danny Elfman).
We played this in our 9-10 grade district honor band(ga district 2) last year(trumpet) I love the trumpet part and low brass I wish our high school band could play this
doing this for a combined 8th and 9th grade song for our concert and also for our competition select band, got us a 94.5 which is gold with distinction. 🎺🎺🎺
Looking through this, there is a bunch on controversy over which instrument is better. I play the Eb Baritone Saxophone and I don't play very much in this, but it it my favorite song in my band. I love it for the fact that that everything comes together to make an amazing upbeat ensemble that grabs the attention of everyone who listens to it. Not because of any single instrument and it's part, but because of it as a whole.
thanks to a posh high school and their conductor, the only thing i can think of when i hear this song now is "NUCLEAR PHYSICS". excellent song and all, but wow.
We are playing this for state competition. I am principal clarinetist. It is really fun. Last year we did Black Granite 3 by Hosay. Y'all should listen to it. It is so fun!
I played this in my states conference band and this was by far the best piece we played, I convinced the tubas to play notes right next to each other (Db C B Bb A Ab) the crunch was amazing
I just learned trumpet two weeks ago and was handed the first trumpet part literally three hours later 😭 Well, my band only has 16 people so yeah And I have to know this in three weeks As well as eight other songs on the flute and oboe What have I gotten myself into? JOIN BAND
Actually you are partially wrong, but in some ways correct. It usually depends on how good the Percussionists are, and if the snare/bass drum parts are very important in the song, etc. But you are totally wrong when you think about how usually the rest of the band will follow the percussionists. If the Percussion section speeds up/slows down/gets off beat, the rest of the band will naturally just want to do the same. It is the same with the dynamics that the Percussionists use too.
Bro same, I played this piece last spring as a freshman. Me and two people were talking about things that sound cool and I remembered playing this and I told them about the Pick A Note and they were shocked that our band director let us play this. I play trombone and me and the 2 people who sat next to me, I played C the person who sat to the right of me played C sharp, and the person who sat to the left played C flat and it was amazing!!
+Catherine Jarvis on saturday I have a concert featuring this song. and tomorrow i have a winter drumline thing where I will play chimes. and i play more than xylophone its just my main instrument
I’m still salty that we didn’t play this my 8th grade year. We had to choose between this and another song but we went with the other song. Context: I’m a senior in high school now.

The music that plays when you're writing an essay the night before it's due
Fuck you buddy
As a matter of fact, that's what I'm doing right now. I got an essay for theater due tomorrow and I haven't even started it yet
ok cool, but the reply from adolf hitler to stalin lmao
@@audreyschneider8210 Aw I check back a year later to find that they changed their names :(
“pick a note” that sound is my heart when i forget to turn in homework
TruePotato cows lol so true 😂

This song sounds like it can't decide whether to be in a major or minor key, but that's what makes it sounds awesome! :D
The song is in the key of C major
@@adamh951 My BD gave me the part, it's in Bb major

I like the first alto part at 2:25 with those 16th notes
That timpani solo doe
Lol my friend does timpani for this song and the gym teachers were walking by and were super impressed
@@its_fprime I had the timpani part but school got shut down the week of the concert competition. I never cared too much for band but this song really got my hyped up.

Me: What? At least I played something!
I am a trombone and sadly the trombone part sucks, except when u get to play triple forte right in the saxs ears and they have their ear drums blown out
+Cindy Bolster YESSSS
+Cindy Bolster i love doing that except we have the french horns infront of us
+Evan Phillips well we have the altos and the French horns
+Cindy Bolster change to euphonium c:, except for that part after the song gets slow all we have is A and G over and over again ._.
*Fortisseissimo
on the second pick a note, i got to scream :)
pick a note?
+TheCrayonBox ! They're at the beginning (first note) and near the end. You get to pick a random note unless your director assignes one. Mine did :(
+I like Photosynthesis2016 thanks for explaining that to me. I've never played it, or seen the sheet music
7th position with lip vibrato
my band director didn't let the clarinets play their highest note for that
I'm very happy that my band director is having us play this, especially for our contest. After hearing this, I really can't wait to play it in class again.
I remember when my class played this, my music teacher told the audience that the last one was a calm music that the students were working on. Me and the boys who are all on low brass: IT'S OUR TIME TO SHINE
