Brilliant showing by our women. Canadian women are excelling at team sports across the board: hockey, soccer, rugby, to name just a few highlights. Really proud of our team. Watch out England!
@@hopandsolo I'm surprised to hear that about Cork. I'm not a fan of it, but I'm sure the decisions to go artificial vs real grass require serious consideration.
Just so the viewers understand, turf is nuthing but carpet over concrete. At least in Football they wear helmets and pads, these players wear nuthin. I didn't see evidence in these highlights, but at one time they tried sprinkling rubber pellets, which turned out to be cancerous. The technology is there to use a compacted dirt underpadding and then the turf on top. But these stadiums are only about making money and not concerned with players health.
@@deliman7203 My local stadium uses modern 'turf', is very soft to walk on, clearly compliant, and not the green grocers fake grass plastic over concrete. It's fake grass over smooshy rubber pellets. I'm not saying I love it, and I personally would not like to slide on it, but there are *realities* of certain climates / latitudes, where grass is not an easy or sustainable option as in other places. Good match, surprised that Canada overwhelmed France so easily, but why oh why don't they play this tournament in Europe, where the crowds will be far greater then you'd ever get in North America, the tournament might pay for itself!
The reality is the mens game is incredibly different. The power, fitness levels and athleticism in mens rugby is a lot greater so there is far less room and time to execute. Ive been watching and enjoying womens rugby since the first RWC in the nineties and I enjoy the brand of rugby that women play . To be fair the maul still dominates far too much in the womens game.I dont know how many mauling tries that the English roses have scored it must be in the hundreds now. That can get a bit tedious You cannot ignore the extraordinary skill of the elite mens teams like the ABs and the Boks. There is a skill level and intensity that is rarely matched in the womens game. Its like everyone can enjoy their own countries football team but when you watch Man City vs Real Madrid thats another level altogether.
If they can’t draw crowds for rugby in Vancouver, I don’t see how they would do it in Ottawa or Toronto. These tournaments could be played in Lloydminster Saskatchewan for all the crowds they bring in
Vancouver puts on a good show when it comes to HSBC Sevens with good crowds especially on the last day of a 3 day tourny when it’s almost sold out. Maybe that could be the way is to have WXV 1,2 and 3 all under the same roof . I’ve been there for sevens footy and it’s a fantastic stadium.
These women's rugby games are very exciting, however, the stadiums are too big, and it feels like we've been transported to Covid days. Even deserted smaller stadiums would have more atmosphere, at least you would see more life outside the stadiums: traffic, trains, trees, people walking their dogs, etc. And, the smaller stadiums are always more picturesque.
Canada is 2 in the world and have recently beat NZ to win the Pac Nations Cup. England only team ahead of them at the moment. France is also pretty consistently a top 3-5 team in the world.
This was a wonderful advert for women's rugby from both sides.
Impressive win for the Canadian girls against a very good french team. Entertaining match.
Power and pace from Canada. England are in for a very tough game.
Great game. These women are beasts on field. Enjoyed that!
Even though I'm English... we better watch Canada here.
They've got a good team. Brushed France here. Be careful Roses......
Agreed.

Full respect from a lifelong Springbok Dad.
That was a cracking match and played at such pace. Some excellent running from the Canadian 14 and the French 9.

Some cracking rugby
The only team I worry about as a Red Roses fan is Canada, they are definitely top 2 in the world!
It is an absolute joke that anyone is still playing sports on plastic turf. You stick and bounce. Injuries go up. Grass. Grass. Grass.
I'd say that's valid for Vancouver's climate, but the rest of Canada can't support grass for large parts of the year.
Lots of European rugby fields are on artificial surfaces now. Saracens, Connaught and Munster when they play in Cork are all artificial surfaces.

Great work rate Canada! Good use of pick and go when appropriate, it really hurt/frustrated them. Well done!
