After I tried a lot of times, I finally succeeded to reach 5.000 Gold (one of the best performances)!
I think 5.500 Gold are possible, but in order to succeed that, you need the perfect, ultimate walkthrough performance, 'cause as can you see, many-many mistakes occurred during this walkthrough 00:16, 8:45, 11:20, 15:12, 17:15, 20:32, 23:32, 26:48, 28:40, 28:58, 28:36, 35:17, 36:00, 36:03 :(

Few games had as much replay value as this one. When I ran out of quarters I'd be happy to watch other people play so I could learn where all the secrets were :)
i'm better than you at this game
my pocket money went in ,too. the ice palace (30 min) was always the end for me. but we were always 3 or 4 kids around this arcade machine, in the front area of our supermarket . cheering each other on every time;))
If memory serves from playing as a kid, there’s a secret door somewhere along the wall of the final castle before you enter by one of the doors. And if you lost your blue pill way earlier I think one of the underwater shops let you buy one back. Loved this game back in the day.
What is amazing is that so many years back, without internet, we all knew these tips and tricks like throwing 🌪️ before jumping for coins and so many others

I love Dragon's Trap, but I wish that all of the games got the handdrawn treatment. Maybe make a version where the final level of Monster Land leads directly into Dragon's Trap? Not sure how they would make that work, but it would be neat. Now that we got the Monster World 4 remake, maybe they'll finally give Monsterland the respect it deserves.

40:36 ohhh that’s why I couldn’t get the platform up the tunnel of doom to appear.
You have to go back and fight Arnold Porkinator after all the skellies are dead because they don’t appear until C’thuBloo is defeated.
These mini bosses aren’t in the Master System version. And I have a Let’s play of that- but never played through this Arcade version.
I also never knew about wiggle jumping to get more coins.
This video has been an education.
Still won’t help me climbing the Tunnel of Doom. But hey, at least I know why I couldn’t find the platform to take you up it.
This is one of the greatest game on the Master system,i really loved this game when i was a kid.

This game is perfect for the fact its just FUN on all stages 100%, FUN finding those hidden coins and getting them at 60+. FUN trying to get the best equipment early. Play it serious or chillin it's just a cool game and they don't make them like this anymore, I wish wonder 3 would have continued from this game with the same software, style, game rules and design.
Dragons trap was awesome too though.
This game and Magic Sword are very similar and thats why there are my favourite!

@@soniq351 Just sound & graphics. Of course the arcade is a lot better on that because it's 16 or 32 bit. However the gameplay which is the most important thing is trash compared to the gameplay on the Sega Master System.
I loved this game as a kid I could never get through the maze at the end, even though I would have full health and potions plus all the legendary gear, even if I chose the bell to show the way it was too unreliable and I would die from losing time, one time I somehow got to the dragon but I had no health left and died. I finally clocked this game many years later on my Xbox, I had to look up how to get through the maze on TH-cam though.
I used to think the blue ghosts were invincible - but just had high HP

I loved this when I was young but just recently got the genises mini and wonderboy in monster world is on it and it's really good aswell very similar to this possibly better. I would love to play this again aswell I have good memories of this.
I am quite curious as to what the exact mechanics to get 60+ coins are, i seem to be able to pull it off without special attacks only about 70% of the times that you do it, and also i wanted to ask, the frames around those parts in your game seem to slow down, do you intentionally somehow lag the game when you are about to get coins?
Dude, you mastered well in this game. Congratulations isn't enough for you. One question: do you need to do a special attack when you try to get 60+ coins? Or mashing left-right is enough?
Edit.: Now I understand. You use a special attack to make a lag for mashing to work, am I correct?
As far as I remember (used to play this a lot in arcades at the 90s) using special attacks increases chance of 60+ coins. The best chance is with whirlwind, the worst is probably bombs. I think whirlwind is guaranteed 6X coins.
Also if a monster pushes you into activating a coin (like 1:20) that's guaranteed 6X.
Attacking and turning left-right to seems to increase chance for 6X. IDK how much.

hello, good job!! i think i'm specialist of this game too, maybe the first game i played when i was 7 or 8 years old(i'm now 38)! i just discover your run and you beat me by near more 1000 golds!! and it's a lot!!!! i knew all the coins and you just miss one, 26'50" before monkey under the last cloud(right) when you fall(need flying shoes).. you have so many tornado item in this "game" it's crazy!! i think you make "difference" from me with the serial of three coins, many time you have 3x65+ golds, really good job!! and if you want my point of view, you can make better score without take the legend shield and maybe armor too! the first shield make no difference(or i'm wrong??): 40 vs 120 + 350= 430 golds, and armour: ceramic is ok for finish the game: 150 + 360 vs 60 + 100 + 540= 190 golds so 620 golds in total!! and i'm so far away from your golds score:/ so respect to you, congratulations from a player who finish this game maybe hundreds time.. (and a little bit jealous:) )

@@MetalGlory666, i just played a game after saw your answer and 4311 gold, maybe i can 4500 with a good run.. and like i said, ceramic armor and first shield at 40! i'm far! on marp, i didn't saw the runs but some people enter 5600, 5700 and one 7000 golds! i will never be the first but if you want a story, and sorry for my english i'm french and have an "easy" language, when i was a kid and play this game i was totally fascinating by this game, you need upgrade sword for finish the game and i think for playing more time i didn't kill the monkey and the boss with fireball before the pirate, when you fall in the cavern! but at this level and without the good sword, you die!! i was 8 and only few game can play a long time like wonderboy 2! in this time if someone show me the end it should be like the first man of the moon!!!:) and since i discover mame and i finish it again and again, like a revenge!! i still make some runs when i play on mame.. it's physical and nostalgia, i love it so much, for ever:)

No just mash the joystick left/right as much fast as you can!!
Yep and some you get bounced of enemys.
I remember in some cases having whirlwinds on screen gave more gold

Great score, I don't get why twin galaxies score is so much higher? Like 5x higher. I don't think all the enemies would add up to that much even if you went back and killed them all a few times. Maybe they are doing a high gold glitch every time?

you can loop 2 blue ghosts in the castle labyrinth for 60k each time, that's why TG score is so high but this requires not so great skills
japanese score is based solely on the gold and is astonishingly high (>8000)

Fun fact: you can play through the game in legendary armor once you complete the game but once you get to the last level you only get 1 shot, if you die there’s no continues./ awesome playthrough!.
It's that way on any run of the game. This is one of many Sega games that do that. Shinobi is a prime example of that, too.

Wonder Boy 5 Monster World 3 (the fifth wonder boy but only the 3rd monster world game)

Wonder Boy was not in the 4th Monster World game so it was only called Monster World 4. Weird how it became named.
