I was there. Smoak needs to be reminded that it's a family environment, and children are watching, and listening. He should've been carded for profanity. Outside of that, my message to him is I agree with his coach that he has a bright future ahead of him if he chooses to have a better attitude and sportsmanship. There is no victory in playing victimhood in the situation you create.

Nah he is trash and will get what he deserves in the end. A mediocre fencer who's tricks will not fool people for long.

I think I am finally finding my own style outside of the natural "beginner fencer unpredictability"
Having fencers you look up to or would like to fence similar to is helpful especially as a beginner, currently a big fan of Samuel Unterhauser, my coach who is also German first showed him to me because he says I fence a lot like him apparently, but maybe he also would rather me be inspired by one of Germanys best than the less conventional fencers I like *cough cough* Max Heinzer

Good luck on your Heinzer inspired journey!!

it's kind of fun watching him until you get tired of foot touches and fleches and one-tempo attacks that are setup by doing weird movements rather than multiple attacks to the hand and body@@GPFencing

I think the cardable offence wasn’t the guy on the right talking, because on replay it sounds like he’s only making a sound (probably still a card, but a lot of refs are lenient on that stuff), but actually him putting his non weapon hand in the air which is signalling to the referee to stop the bout. Definitely should have been a card either way.

At big tournaments like NACs, do they not have those small scoreboard lights on the ends of the strip? I hate having to turn around to see if I touched or not

You don't stop fencing until the ref calls halt, and even after that you might as well go for one more action

Can someone explain why when Justin froze with his PIL that they called halt? Is it against the rules to stand still? I'm confused (at 22:09)
