The best interview with Mr Pitney never lost his vocal capability ever!!! An absolute professional!! Loved and missed ...2024 Sir you live on!!! 🙏🎧🤠👢 🎤 ❤💃💕
A very warm en great hearted man. Wich has the talent to write and perform beautifull songs. I remember a a 6 months before his death. I had a very hard and awfull time. Gene made it possible to send me a mail with the words I will never forget in my life...You have a lot of wonderfull things in live...So, GO FOR IT...After all these years his words are following in my head....Thanks Gene.....RIP....
Gene was wonderfull I saw him live in 1986 at hull city hall. He was brilliant.he was taken from us years too young. He was a brilliant musical all round talent. A great singer. songwriter . musician . His son Todd is a guitar player. Gene throughtly deserved his place in the rock and roll hall of fame. Now they should induct another of my favourites the wonderfull Neil sedaka. From Michael from Yorkshire and proud of it.
Gene, I have always loved your music. My brother and I covered your songs Half Heaven, Half Heartache and Town Without A Pity. Out of the three hundred songs we did, Town Without A Pity was my favorite.
I know I was shocked stupid when I heard Gene passed. He was part of my youth and I've been a fan for 54 yrs. He's my all time favorite solo male artist. His delivery was fabulous and a voice like no other. And yes, I know Clyde McPhatter. :o)
Jean Pitney was a guy who could make you believe, A voice that stood alone with a delivery that touched your heart. My wife and I have seen Gene in concert many many times. What a slave to his public the man was. One night in a theatre East Bourne England Gene had just finished his last number before the intermission. The lights came up and he began talking to the audience as he removed a piece of paper from his pocket. "From time to time I receive letters and I just happened to have one here. "Dear Gene "he began to read. " I would love to take you out for dinner after the show tonight " The women in the audience showed great interest. When the screams died down he continued to read. Take you out for dinner tonight, he paused and then make you breakfast in bed" After all the envious voices in the audience had fallen quiet Gene approached the edge of the stage shielded his eyes from the spotlights and said, " Chris? are you out there Chris ? After a moments silence In my deep baritone voice I answered him " Yeah I'm over here Gene." The whole theater just roared with laughter, Gene and his band were all but legless with laughter. My wife bless her only 23 years of age then gave me a dig in the ribs with her elbow. She is now 76years old and we have been married for 54 years and we still play his records. and keep his memory safe in our hearts'.
Gene Pitney had a unique ,powerful voice that could stand on it's own. He also could whistle like no tomorrow. Listening to him in this interview its evident how deep and caring and eloquent he was..we're losing my heroes and it",s not alot of fun.
He was fantastic a unique voice which cant be surpassed. His songs had beautiful melodies and lyrics a one off hes gone physically . But still here in spirit
1962, Williamsport, PA I had the pleasure of MCing his show after which I ask him what he was doing after the show. He quickly said, going back to my hotel. I said why don't you come to my house and we'll watch the old Tonight Show? He said sure! You should have seen the look on my wife's face when we walked in! She was in her bathrobe and hair in curlers. If looks could kill!! Just one final note. When you stand next to Gene, his voice was so powerful you had to move away because it hurt your ears. He's gone but never forgotten! RIP Gene. Bill Stutzman
His autopsy found that he had a congenital heart disease according to his bio. He'd done a long show the previous night, ending his show with 'Town without Pity'. When his manager found him dead the next morning, he was on the bed still fully dressed from his show the night before. He was in Cardiff Wales. He spoke so clearly, I always wondered why when he sang, some of the words sounded strange. Bless him, RIP. 'Town without Pitney' xx
I didn't know Gene had died. We spent a lot of time together when he was in Leeds. I enjoyed travelling around with him. He performed at the Batley Variety Club. We went to Jimmy Corrigan house after one of the performances. A good guy.
If I didn't have a dime and Liberty Valen's Are my two favorite Pitney song's. I like some of the others but I still like those two songs Best. Seems like he sings Tex Mex style music best. Tango Waltz Western if there's such a thing ? That jukebox and dime song is something special.
Yes he is in great shape But? What the heck happend? He is something. Im glad i picked up mom's records and played them way back in 1969 when i was very young.
He had a heart attack. Happens. Doesn't matter how good of a shape a person is in. A heart or stroke can hit at any time after the age of 35. I work in health care. My dad died the same way at the age of 72 and had the body of a 50 yr old man.
Gene Pitney had access to the best medical care in the world, took care of himself, exercised, ate right, did all of the things supposedly necessary to take care of your health. How does he die from hardening of the arteries? Can you be tested for that? Or do you have to actually die before it's made known to you that your arteries are blocked? Why did a good family man like him have to die? It bothers me.
It doesn't always work like that, but I can understand why you are asking this. Actually a person dying is a hard thing for anyone that cares about that person to understand.
Diagnostics at the time vs today. CT scans can pick up specific areas of damaged coronary arteries. Also, a heart at rest vs at stress (full load exercise i.e. treadmill at extreme angle for 3 minutes can pick up stuff. AIDS was a death sentence 15 years ago - now it can be cured or maintained. Pitney was a fantastic singer, composer, father and husband. His music will live on long after his death.
i had blocked artries i was born with it i never smoked or drank i had a quadruply heart bypass i had pain under my left shoulder gene had heart attack it can happen quickly bless him i loved him i saw him two weeks before he died he was on his tour i had hoped he would sighhn my portrait i did of him but he didnt sighn auto s he never came out i cryed he died two weeks later rip my special angel
I was Gene's biggest fan and I sang all of his songs as an entertainer myself and even named my second son 'Gene' too. I saw him perform several times and also met him personally. Don't want to be critical here, but Gene did develop a style - a harshness in his voice in his latter years which wasn't pleasant to listen to. For example, if you listen to Gene's recording of 'Town without Pity, his voice is very mellow and seductive, but hearing it live, he changed his style and made it abrupt and harsh. Apart from this small criticism, a very unique voice and one in a million. He was instrumental in making me leave Uni and pursue an entertainment career, celebrating my 52nd year in showbiz this year. Sorry to lose him so early.
I did notice the change in Gene's voice as the years went by, but Gene's vocal ability was extraordinary and one could not expect him to maintain those amazing high notes as his vocal chords matured. i could sing when i was younger, but as my vocal chords matured i sounded appalling! Gene continued to wow fans at sell out shows, so the fans were clearly happy.
@@shosho63449 Hi Shona, yes I'm on FB, but not a fan of it. You can find me on TH-cam: Roberto Gennari/This Crazy Heart. I translated and sang the English lyric.

I was shocked beyond belief when i heard Gene had died, I knew him during the 60's and thought he was the best guy ever. But I was a bit surprised to find that he was still touring in his sixties, it must have been very stressful.
Labels in Britain and Australia carrying Gene Pitney, and their distribution(historically) -In Australia: Coronet; United Artists; CBS(all distributed by Australian Record Company) until about 1970/71, then Interfusion and Musicor(distributed by Festival), then Bronze(distributed by Warner). UA eventually went to Festival, then EMI. Bronze started with Warner then went to Festival. In Britain: United Artists until 1964 then Stateside(both labels under EMI), then Musicor(likely EMI) then Bronze(Warners) Period referred to, 1960 to 1975. After that I have no information.
haha! continue his musical talent? you think his relatives are gonna jump into his act in his place?? the audience might have something to say about that "... *and now, ladies and gentlemen, here to sing their family's great hit Town Without Pity, the one, the only Gene Pitney's cousin Penelope* !" can't see SRO crowds for that
@@Marcel_Audubon No need to be sarky, seems a perfectly reasonable question to me. In fact Gene's son Todd inherited Gene's wonderful ability to whistle, and he works in the music industry.
Maybe it's just me - But I doubt it. Because I can barely hear the interview with the sound volume in the background ! Surely they should have done a sound - check prior to releasing the interview ? Did they not have at least ONE sound engineer ? This is just not good enough nor professional. Thank you. Gene Pitney No. 1 Dublin.
How you can turn the word heart into a two syllable word is beyond me but he did it! I don't know if he was aware of it, or if it's just from the part of the country he lived in.
