    This gets more and more attractive all the time! Just Do It, Richard says. It helps to think about "it" as a one year exploratory experience. New, encouraging thought! ¡Gracias!

      @@ChosenFewExpats something i'd like to see/hear covered: exactly what steps could someone take RIGHT NOW, in the midst of this "pandemic" to seriously (with intent) begin the process of investigating how to make this move next year. what could one do within the next 6 months to head in that direction, other than watching your channel vids, which are, admittedly and definitively inspiring! ok, i'm inspired. now i need a framework, an outline, a suggested structure for what to do to make it real. that's the information i'm seeking. does this already exist in your library of vids?

      @@karolynvanputtenphd I'm sorry for the late reply as I'm just seeing this. There is quite a bit of information in these videos in terms of what to research and investigate. If you're looking for a more structured, step by step approach on everything with a more personalized approach and or consultation then please send me an email at: chosenfewexpats@gmail.com so we can discuss in more detail.

    Loved the interview, guys! I’m from Trinidad as well and I didn’t know the limbo originated here. I just know it as a Caribbean dance.

    I love watching your interviews. I respectfully disagree with some of what was said regarding racism however. Rich has grown up in the Caribbean with people that look like him ruling being the norm and Black people on the currency. He’s had limited experience with racism compared to Black people born and raised in the US. He also said he doesn’t like to discuss racism. I’ve resided in Panama since 2017, and have never experienced racism from Panamanians, however, I experienced as much racism as I did living in Texas by White American and British expats here in Bocas.
    I’d get invited to a cool white person’s home for a party/ dinner, and one woman, a psychologist from Nebraska immediately saw me and said hey here’s a Black person. I once commented how pleasant and cute one dog was, and the owner blurred out that her dog Roger is racist. A White Texas walked up to me at the Blue Coconut, and told me he heard I was a fellow Houstonian, then immediately began telling me that a Black man once came on his property and he walked out with his rifle because the man must have been coming to steal. One lady who is a White democrat invited me to spend the night at her home because we’d stayed up watching election returns and the taxis weren’t coming at around 10:30. The lady locked me upstairs after showing me to my room when she went downstairs to her bedroom. I’m a retired government employee with a security clearance and a master’s degree. Surely she couldn’t mistake me for a common criminal in her KMart furnished house. They bring racism with them wherever they go, and I left the US to get away from that, so I suggest you plan on segregating from most of them as you would in the US. Changing countries doesn’t erase who they are and what’s been ingrained in them their whole lives.

    • @ChosenFewExpats
      @ChosenFewExpats  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi and thanks for your continued support. You seem to imply that Rich hasn't experienced much racism just because he grew up in the Caribbean as you say with people who look like him. However, do you realize that places like Trinidad and many of these Caribbean islands have a large number of expats just like Panama. He alluded to have experienced racism in Trinidad.
      I understand your other points as many of our other guests have also indicated that all of the racism they experienced in Panama was from other expats. Where in Panama do you live now?

    • @LianeSpicer
      @LianeSpicer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your insights on this topic. That makes perfect sense, that people don't suddenly become other than who they are when they migrate--they bring their habits and outlook with them. Many in the Caribbean will tell you similar stories about the overt racism of some white tourists and expats. There's the homegrown variety too but it's far more muted because of the factors you mentioned: majority black, black-ruled, etc.
