Thank you for having us @sonicstate ! It was so much fun doing a deep dive into CPM DS-2 Analog Drone Synthesizer. I hope everyone finds this useful and learns a lot more about the creative possibilities of this truly unique synthesizer. 👍🏻
5 minutes into this video I've started to loose my hair, glasses suddenly appeared on my face about 10 minutes after, skin got bleached white around 20:00, and finally I've started to speak with a tight British accent: I've became Stylophonized!!! Love this drone thingy!
I was already ready digging this last week when Stylophone first dropped the trailer for it, but I'm even more excited now, it sounds so luscious. I'd say 'sign me up', but I did that about a nano second after watching the initial video last week. The countdown begins.....
I envy people new to synths being able to get this as their first. It is exactly what I would’ve wanted, like a monotron delay modular. Small, affordable, experimental and usable with other gear.
I've been waiting for a full walk through of this instrument before I pull the trigger. A synth I didn't know I needed. I like how its set up and it's basic functionality. It makes sense and it seems fun to jam on by itself Add in some other instruments and this could bring interesting textures to a song.
What a demo this is! It’s freakin’ War of the Worlds meets Blade Runner 🔥🔥🔥This is Stylophone, haven’t heard something this interesting and fresh in months! And the price point is ace! Thanks Matt!
Went in more curious than interested. Wow alot more flexibility than the price/format suggests. Once the oscillator mod started towards the end those possibilities really started to shine!
Oh!! needed this so much. Thanks Mates! We got MathsMathsMaths and Nick and drones + theremin jam! Friday Superfun + Demo action! It's like a second Christmas! Cheers!!
This is one of the best sounding synths I’ve ever herd! Being not a native English speaker it was sometimes hard hearing what you were talking about, but it could also be because I was SO focused on the sounds the synth made…!
Having started watching more out of curiosity I can say this is a genuinely good surprise of a synth. Different … at least for me as I have no drone synths. The CV In adds all sorts of possibilities if you already have modular or semi modular. I would quite like to combine this with a Subharmonicon pushed through my Octatrack … but I am sure there’s far more interesting stuff could be done if you have a more modular orientated brain. Intriguing. Nice presentation - thanks both.
Same here, I wasn’t at all intrigued by reading about this thing, but hearing it in action has made me think again. It sounds incredibly powerful for such a small, cheap little device.
Analogue, plug in and play, no off board gear required, no screens, no menus. Huge variety of sounds, I'm sold I could ditch a massive flight case of gear and replace it with this.
This isn't a complaint, it's a question. Is there any way to sync the tempo of this to other gear or do you dial in it in by ear? I could defend either approach but would rather have the option of sync so as to have the choice case-by-case. (To be clear, I've placed my pre-order.)
Good question! While there isn't any 'traditional' sync inputs - but there is the reset of the LFO which can be reset by external equipment very easily. So you can send a trigger into that input whenever you want the LFO to start again and essentially create synced movement etc. With this method you can actually obtain a wider variety of waveforms by creating a reset a different points in the cycle! The approach here is to empower you to feel much more creative in the workflow and inspire you to have fun with that 🙂 Thank you so much for your support and I hope you love the DS-2 when it arrives!
Probably the nicest sounding synth I've ever heard, 260.00 that's a good price, so interesting, so much modulation, the effects sound incredible, it's a stand alone Sci fi soundtrack machine, saving some money right now to get one
I've come back to this video multiple times and I honestly can't effing wait for this synth to come out. This, 100%, would have been my first synth if it had existed when I got into electronic music. And I think this honestly should be a first synth for anybody getting into it.
Okay. I’m going to hedge a bet that being a British product, it’s highly likely that Pete 'Sonic Boom' Kember has had a help in designing this? Stylophone, I think you have a classic here. Brilliantly done lads. 👍👍👍
At a completely high level (without much digging on my part) would love to compare this to say the Modern Sounds Pluto (another small and portable semi modular). I know that's double the price (and has a bit of a sequencer in it). This stylophone is in the fun, toss it in my backpack for short trips vibe and I'm 100% here for that. Signed up for pre-orders already!
@@Daphoid I love it. A musical toy in the best sense. I use a lot of generative processes in art and this is a terrific tool for meaningful randomness.
…….. on my 3rd watch now. GAS for this little beauty. Totally underwhelmed when I first saw a pic of it. After watching this it’s pretty much top of the GAS list! What a wonderfully thought out and impressive little thing. I love it.
This is interesting and well thought out. A bit towards vcs3. I think as it's price is attractive this could be a big success. Could even kick off a new music genre. It sounds musical. Probably the most interesting synth in a long while.
Initially I was disappointed it had no midi... And here i went and just picked up a used minibrute 2s... So I wonder what I might use to sequence this? 😁 If the price really is only around $250 this seems incredibly reasonable for the sounds it creates
It sound beautiful but I just wish it had a MIDI 5 pin or usb connector for some midi note action, it would have tripple the sales at this great pricepoint
Added myself to pre-order list. These are going to shift by the truck load for sure - great features, compact, speaker, battery powered, patch points and best of all Eurorack sized. Sold to me 100% 👍
Me Like ! This is so Neutron and Music from Outer Space. It gives me the shizells forshizells! Thank you guys for demonstrating this unit and hope to see it reviewed again at NAMM.
Really like the layout and sounds great. This would pair really well with a SQ1 sequencer. Already have patch ideas SQ1 A sequencing the pitch and B sequencing the LFO. Really impressed with the sounds. Wouldn’t change a thing and man those filters. Has a charm of its own.
I wish this has the most basic MIDI IN and attack/decay knobs. just a basic basic envelope would have expanded this from simple drone synth to actual synth monster
Beautiful sounding osc and filters, nice choices, always loved the 3320 filter. You could get into a lowpass gate thing if you paired this with a eurorack envelope. Pretty tempting!
Wow thats actually cool af . I bought the stilaophone beats and it's actually really good especially for the price ..but this drone synth looks the business
Did they just ignore the Gen-R8 (while listing/showing the others)!? That's one of their cooler offerings so far, imo (along with this). [Good stuff, though, btw, Nick and co.)
This synth is MASSIVE! I can't believe you get so much for $260. At that price, Buh-Bye Behringer. Huge fat analog sounds that are modulated from every possible direction. The combined independent Hi + Lo pass filters have the feel of the MS-20. Has Delay, Chorus/Reverb and PWM. Stylophone is underselling everything Moog has on the market.

Are you guys going to have one of these at NAMM?
Thank you for putting this together amazing love it
Thank you for making this eurorack compatible!! Now please bring back the Gen R-8!
Is there nothing more touching than a Father Son Synth presentation? Wonderful stuff.
almost spat my coffe goddamn
I can only apologise 🙂@@emrob31
omg! i was thinking the same thing! hahaha
😂
😆😆😆
You didn't call it the StyloDrone?
They definitely missed a trick there.
That’s a great name. CPM CS-2 is a bit of a mouthful for such a beautiful little device.
All be calling it for now on
😭
Well no, because this one doesn't have a Stylus. 😉
When Nick looks curious, a little confused, delighted, and can’t keep his hands off a synth, you know it’s good.
I was on the edge of my seat waiting for him to reach over and start tweaking
Two oscillators, two LFOs, and a digital effects section for the price is a steal in the eurorack world.
Plus 2 filter
This would be great as a Darth Vader chest plate attached to a mic in the helmet.
🤣🤣🤣
I nominate this as the best synthesizer of 2024
You have my vote until something changes my mind. But yeah, so far a worthy candidate.
Its only February
Battery powered and built in speaker? Love it!! Perfect for spontaneous jams without needing to fish out cables and power supplies
This sounds great. Stylophone is stepping their game up lately!
Can't judge a book by it's cover...was not expecting this thing to be so cool

yeah kids these days have it made. i remember trying to decide between a circuit monostation and a volca keys
Ahaha the monotron delay is my first synth (with the nts-1) and my favorite, just "a bit" limited, now I want this one ^^
This sounds incredible. Though I have more drone synths than I can use, this is a must-buy for me
This is like the old days!
Great products
Great videos
Thanks so much!
Good to see Right Said Fred back together for this interview.
Sounds earthy & spacey at the same time..😎
Awesome synth, but I can't wait to see you do the Theremin as well! Loved how you slipped in some Theremin into the ending jam haha.
Nick and his son could do live shows as The Stylophone Council. Perhaps do an hour long jam - Duelling Stylos.
What a super beginner dream to enter the world of modular synthesis...
my goodness!
see you at the superbooth 2024!
I want one now.
I also want a Stylophone Vocoder next please.
"CPM range" I'm excited to see what else is coming
had to watch it twice. really nice synth👍
Can't wait. This is going to fly off the shelves. I sure hope production can keep up! 🎉❤
Wow, it will fit in great with my Strega and 0-Coast on the table top.
We're definitely the target market for this lol.

WOW- that sound is like Dave Smith quality!
"mad sci-fi alarm" exactly why i love synths. Bless you sir.
I was not expecting to get GAS from a stylophone, not going to lie. Pleasantly surprised.

I def never thought I'd see something like this from stylophone
And it's eurorack compatible? Nice. I wonder if that Aux In is strictly for effects (and the usual distortion trick shown at the end)
Insta-buy for me! I want to pair it up with the Lyra-8 and get lost for a while.
I bet Gaz will love this
it has some great sounds that makes me miss my Elettrorama/MFOS Noise Toaster.
Reminds me of the subharmonicon......except this sounds nice 😉
