I saw one video where the guy lifted the engine from one side of the header at a time. It lifted AND tilted the engine just enough to give you way more clearance than what I saw in this video!
I just changed mine for 1st time. They make a flexible head ratcheting t bar at oreillys, it’s about 16 or 18in long. I changed my passenger side without jacking motor up, but had to on drivers side but saved me bunch time only jacking one side of the motor up. I didn’t even have to completely remove the metal skid plate just the driver side to get to the motor mount. Hope it helps thanks for video. Just wanted to share something may save extra time the next time, you have to change them.
The possible reason for inconsistent lean/rich fuel delivery in each cylinder is most likely because of the series style fuel rail system. Granted this can be fixed "sort of" via a tune but the best way to fix it is to convert the rails to parallel.
@@Smeedia That makes sense two, but I have read somewhere that cylinder 1 has issues due to the series fuel system in most subaru engines; hence my comment...
My 92 4runner v6 spark plugs were pretty bad it didn't help that I had to wait about a week for the manifold gasket to arrive and broken/hoses that caused a nightmare of a vacuum leak.
@@Smeedia the manifold wraps on one side of the engine, the manifold needs to be removed and early 90s toyotas have a plethora of vacuum hoses and it's easy to crack, brake or ripe while doing this job. The Ford e350 super duty van is also a spark plug nightmare.
@@Smeedia fingers crossed buddy! May be worth giving them a once over. I once parked a car, went to class, came out and had a real rough idle. A spark plug wire popped off. Gremlins!
Get a rubber hose so after you break the spark plug lose you can stick the rubber hose in there on the plug and it will be easier to spin and maneuver in there.
@@Smeedia how about if u lower the engine down and change from below? And definately u need swivel 1/4" short extension so your rachet will reach above or below the frame rail.. not being pinched between engine and frame rail...
So I don't own a car with this engine in it but I was thinking about getting an Frs, but just out of curiosity is it not possible to take the fender lining off and go through the wheel well for this?
Dude I’m subscribed, have watched every video lately, even have that Bell turned a nice shade of blue, but I never ever get your videos in my recommended alongside my other subscriptions
Torque specs for BRZ spark plugs are as easy as can be, so count off as described so clearly on Smeedia TV. One UGA DUGA, two UGA DUGA and not one UGA DUGA more. (Each UGA or DUGA is 2.5 ft lbs)
Don't have a BRZ/FRS/GT86, but judging from how high the motor was jacked up, would it be easier to take the wheels and fender liners off, lift the car and lower the subframe/engine cradle?? That way you are working below the frame rails and not right next to them. And again I'm not 100% on the structure of those cars, just a thought.
That looks harder then my sti for sure. Great video! I'll remember to hard pass when someone's asks me if I want to do them 🤣 also anti sieze for the win! I always use it works great. And I never torque the plugs. I've seen them come loose when they are torque to spec because the washer doesn't crush enough on the plug.
@@Smeedia it looks like it. That looks like one of the most annoying normal road cars to change plugs on. I honestly think your way is probably one of the best ways to do it and its still difficult. Thats crazy how uneven the tune looked between all 4 cylinders though
Thanks man. Already was not lookin forward and after watching you do it I can tell it’s something I absolutely need to do right but will probably push it back like when my GF asks me to do something. Hahaha.
Makes me wonder why manufacturers would ever design an engine that would make simple maintenance so difficult!? I thought my wrx sucked, but no comparison
My man, i just did this on the wkend. ngk-racing-plug-number-97537, is the route i took..have you had any experience with these plugs? As for the procedure of knuckle busting i took, i also had to jack up the block and work one side at a time. I haven't used them but next go around I am going to test them out! I could only find OEM Replacements. And guess jacking up the block is the only way 😅
Quick question. I just changed the plugs on my 19 wrx yesterday. Starting up it sounds horrible but eventually smooths out. My ap has also been giving me more fbk and fkL since then. My af correction is also out of wack but all I did were the plugs

Curious how hard it would be to get those plugs from underneath... heard that suggested for EJs before, (even tho I've never had a problem getting at mine) but I dunno what the mounting situation looks like on the BRZ. For the most part I believe it was due to improper injector scaling and the transition between the port and direct injection on the prior tune.

You missed to show us the most important part, exactly how lifted the motor. I can visualize it but for most of us, seeing is worth a thousand words.

I was wondering if you don't have a bad tune... but like an intelligent vacuume leak. Something about the way it "runs" when you are having issues.
