Thanks so much for posting these three clips, Candy! "Best death scene"...yeah we all would prefer some other nomination for Marcy but anyway she's amazing, and A too, and together they're pure delight :) really made my day!
This little clip embodies why we loved the daytime soaps. Even though these were serious actors who could handle serious topics, they also knew how to have fun and laugh at themselves. I tended to follow a soap based on a couple I found compelling. On GL, it was the enduring and complicated relationship of Roger and Holly. As a speech pathologist,, I became concerned when I noticed the ever-eloquent Roger slurring some of his words followed by fewer and fewer appearances on the show. I was horrified, but not surprised when I read of his ALS diagnosis. Was so very disappointed in the GL decision to let Mr. Zaslow go because they thought the viewers wouldn't have accepted the character in this condition. So wrong. Unlike other forms of storytelling, soaps could follow a character's life from youth to middle and old age and all that implied. Felt cheated that I never saw what Maureen Garrett and Michael Zaslow could've done with seeing the ever in-control, highly intelligent, indomitable Roger become physically dependent and vulnerable over time (Or for that matter, a storyline of Holly having a Downs Syndrome child with Roger as opposed to Fletcher.) Kudos to both Mr. Zaslow and OLTL who brought back the character of David Rinaldi afflicted with ALS. I remember a scene with the wheelchair-bound David communicating with Robin Strasser's Dorian Lord via an electronic communication board. Always a shame when soap executives/writers underestimate the viewers who appreciate and understand soaps the most. They would go anywhere with a character or couple as long as the honesty and integrity of their history is not compromised. Thank you for posting this clip and triggering my fond memories of Michael Zaslow, the actor and the man.
