Hi Ian, no, you certainly are not wasting your time. I actually play a 48 bass accordion most of the time, so am well used to working around the slightly restricted bass hand. With he two octaves on the right hand, there are very few folk tunes that you can't play, and even those that are out with that range can usually be easily adapted to fit. As for the bass, you can make minor sevenths for the missing buttons by combining a counterbass named for the key you want to play with the major chord button of the row above it. e.g. to make Bm7, you would play B counterbass of G with the D major button. both Gordon B Cosh (key of A) and Christie McLeod (key of D)are well within the range of the right hand, and you could play an easy bass accompaniment for both within the limits of the 48. If you wanted to make more interesting accompaniment, use the minor seventh trick above where necessary.

I have a 48bass unnamed accordion but want to play Gordon B Cosh and Christie Mcleod. The first is in A major so am I wasting my time?
