- Mount Samat National Shrine (Tagalog pronunciation: [samat]) or Dambana ng Kagitingan (Shrine of Valor) is a historical shrine located near the summit of Mount Samat in the town of Pilar, Province of Bataan, in the Republic of the Philippines. The memorial shrine complex was built to honor and remember the gallantry of Filipino and American soldiers who fought against the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II.
Consisting of a Colonnade and the large Memorial Cross, the park was commissioned in 1966 by then-President Ferdinand Marcos,[1] for the 25th Anniversary of World War II.[2] The white Memorial Cross stands as a remembrance to the soldiers who fought and lost their lives in the Battle of Bataan. The shrine complex also includes a war museum with a wide array of collections from paintings of the Philippine heroes, to armaments used by the Filipino, American and Japanese forces during the battle.
From the colonnade and the cross, there is a panoramic view of Bataan, Corregidor Island and on a clear day, the city of Manila situated about 50 km (31 mi) across Manila Bay.

Naka punta na po ako jan sa mt.samat national shrine at naka gamit kami ng elevator at kakaibang experience kasi mataas na yung bundok lalo pa kaming tumaas dahil sa higanteng krus! Kita nyo po ang lupain sa cavite at bataan sa sobrang taas nya! Way back 2005 pa po yun.
Ang ganda nga diyan sa Mount Samat kahit nakakapagod umakyat sa hagdan pero sulit naman at the end. Believe rin ako sayo dada dahil kahit pagod ka na eh tuloy ka pa rin sa pagaakyat.

Thanks for the Bataan videos. I am seriously considering investing there ever since I heard they're building a Manila Bay highway that will cut down travel to 30 mins. Bataan is a nice beach area and there's also hills and mountains.

Thanks for the refreshing moments...we already visited mount samat way back 1996 nong nursing student pa lang ako until sa taas..the cross part..nkaka hilo po..that year gumagana pa ang elevator but only for VIP..thanks dada
Wow, it's good to know that the roads are already well paved and that there is already a tourism officer conducting orientation to visitors about the do's and dont's. Also, congratulations for reaching the base of the cross on foot! Cars and other vehicles were allowed then to go up and park near the cross' area, looks like it's no longer allowed. I don't know if the elevator is still operational so you could go up the horizontal part of the cross, if not, they should have it reconditioned or replaced.

Just a trivia - Don't you know that the Mt. Samat Cross faces the Rizal Monument? When Jose Rizal was shot at then Bagumbayan (old name of Luneta Park) by the Filipino soldiers on orders of Spanish authorities, he turned around facing Manila Bay towards Mt. Samat before he fell to the ground.

Hi Dada and Sweetie! Maraming salamat dito sa video. My dad was a WW II veteran and a survivor of the Bataan Death March. Maganda sana puntahan yan kaya lang bilang seniors medyo mahihirapan kami umakyat sa may Cross. I hope maayos nila yung ELEVATOR for the sake of seniors and physically challenged visitors. By the way, I'm watching from Vancouver. Keep doing your video trips. Para na rin naming nakita yung inyong mga napasyalan. Thanks and drive safe.
FYI lang po, yung elevator ay nasa loob ng cross paakyat sa observation flat form(horizontal part of cross) at sarado ngayon, mayroong parking lots sa taas walking distance sa cross, kaya lang you have to be there very early to secure your parking space. But as the lady said "due to landslide the mentioned parking lot is currently closed".
