This was incredible. Bout the time I joined the Army I noticed the bagpipes made my chest swell and really brought a emotional feeling. My Dad always said it was our Scottish blood reacting
In piping parlance, they call it 'seconds.' It's not _precisely_ chromatic harmony all the way through, if I understand. In piping books like Standard Settings, seconds are written out on separate pages right after the melodies.
I used to be a harmony/seconds (We use the terms interchangeably) player in my band. A few years ago they made me the pipe major, so unfortunately I have to play the melody line these days. I really miss playing harmonies. It was a lot of fun. I do play them on this though since everybody is pretty comfortable with playing the melody and not watching me.
"Just When They Think They Got The Answers I Change The Questions" And "You Do Not Throw Rocks At A Man Who's Got A Machine Gun" I Loved This Music 10/10
Amazing stuff Ally. So amazing that the youth of today still have an active interest of the pipes. One of the most magnificent sounds on the 🌎. Keep it up Ally.
When you play drums in the pipe bands for...a fair while, seeing two pipers for a Green Hills performance, you know you're getting that awesome harmony. And the swing into When the Battle's O'er is always a sweet thing. If you take requests, would love to hear Battle of the Somme. Cool channel Ally!
I am SO glad that I subbed! I would have missed this completely! Soichiro Honda, the founder of Honda Motors, once said, "The value of life can be measured by how many times your soul has been deeply stirred". I'd like to most humbly thank you, and ALL pipers for increasing the value of my life.
So, I'm here at work and put this video on after just finding your channel through the TH-cam shorts that I play while eating lunch. I'm writing an email and all the sudden I hear this video and I had to stop everything. Transfixed by the sound. Thank you for that. It's outstanding.
This song distinctly reminds me of Saturday mornings in my old town. The local piper band used this as the group warmup in the park near my house. It's my morning rooster call. Nobody ever complained about morning pipers
how can anyone not think this is some of the most beautiful music that can be heard...... the sounds reverberate thru my soul and make me feel closer to the earth we walk on :) Keep it up girl, you are a great role model for teenage kiddos like mine ! thank you :)
AWESOME JOB! And Ally, God bless ya for NOT bowing to pressure and stooping to degrade yourself with gratuitous showing of skin or running around in a half shirt and braless! That said, it's NOT only you God given talent that has your subscriber numbers going up, it's your personality and your attitude! Please don't get me wrong, but I LOVE YOUR GOOFINESS AND SENSE OF HUMOR TOO! Keep the faith and keep fighting the good fight Sweetie! God bless and take care...
You should filmed the one on the right a couple feet from where you were standing so it'd look like you were beside yourself...Ha, ha, ha. Sounded great, Ally.
Dear alley Writing this my kind request to ask you very nicely if and when you get time would you kindly come to Kingston upon Hull with those wonderful bagpipes and play we don't have any street entertainment S this council say it would cost too much for street entertainment but they are saying they want tourists to come and visit hull but you need street entertainment like Edinburgh the pipes and drums play out out the Waverley station they could allow you bag pipers to contact some of the female drummers and come to Kingston upon Hull and really show your talents of music by entertaining the shoppers and the coach tourists
Hey ally just found you on here I was searching for this song on TH-cam on my TV and stumbled across you it's a great song and well done you are great on the pipes am from Scotland I live near Glasgow hope you see this message so do you play at tartan week in NYC?
So I would like to make a side by side video like this to propose some harmonies to my pipe band, but I'm not real tech-y. Is there a simple answer as to how to do that? Like an app or something?
Ally, do you have another set of pipes? Or another set of reeds for the pipes you have? When you overlay the sound of the same pipes with the same reeds, it creates a sharp harmonic.
On the left she’s playing the main tune on the right she’s playing what’s called seconds(a version of the tune written with sone different notes to create the harmony) first play through everyone plays the same on the repeat some band members will play the seconds while everyone else continues the normal tune creating the harmony
After seeing you limited to 60 second snips, it a GREAP pleasure to watch you be to play the whole tune. WELL DONE.
If I can get myself a decent camera I’d love to post more of the longer versions on TH-cam 😊
@@PiperAlly Ye need nea camera, dear, but a good mic.
Even a bad camera won't miss yer beauty. ;)
Wonderful! Need full length 🎶 🎵 songs.
Thanks
😊
Agreed! This was a joy to watch and listen to.
Andy Stewart singing along appreciatively in heaven...

Enjoyable thank you from Guelph Canada. Been a piper since 9 and still going at 64.
Thanks! What great music.
I love harmony on bagpipes. Well done harmonizing with yourself!

@@w.reidripley1968 we should probably call them countermelodies or secondary melodies.
