I find it upsetting that there was ever anyone high up in the company who did not want to pay homage to Walt Disney. Nostalgia keeps us connected to the wonderful and magical things those before us created. And he created on a massive and epic scale. Thanks for all you do, and for this video that honors him.
...it seems completely Asinine now...but in his defense in the 1980s CEO Isner was competing with the increasing popularity of "teen & young adult", thrill ride/roller coaster parks, like Magic Mountain...where parents just dropped off their "bored with it all"- "can't wait to grow -up" teenagers- ..To whom Walt Disney was considered "old hat", "lame", "only for babies"-as Disneyland was always themed for nostalgic Adults and little children's fantasy Chracter's...Whereas in the 80s-90's, "California was considered the ultimate in Cool" ...DCA's initial failure proved, Isner dead wrong...so now the Park has been re-themed as a sort of neoDisneyland/PixarLand...fitting perfectly todays teens and young adults, who are entirely unembarrassed to experience, and embrace extended childhood...
Educate me on DCA! I love these. The many nods to Walt shows how near and dear to everyone's heart he was, and still is! Mahalo for doing these series.
Hey Chris, I'm a 24 year old and I wanted to say that I love what you do on this channel. I'm a little depressed since I graduated from college 2 years ago and still looking for a full-time job and my own place, but seeing your disneyland videos and when you say I matter, it makes me smile.
You're definitely not alone. I'm 46 and many days I feel like my bachelor's degree and my 20+years of experience don't mean anything and aren't helping me find a job either. But u know what kiddo, he's right u don't realize it, but just your presence on this planet is important. Money etc are nice and kind of necessary, but not really what our time here is about.🤗✨
Educate me on DCA! Chris, it was a blast meeting you in the park during this filming. You are a wonderful, positive person. Thanks for taking the time to talk with my family!
Actually it was the original DCA that Eisner and his think tank thought they did not need any Walt nods. He essentially wanted a slightly plused up Six Flags. The Buena Vista Street we know today was constructed under Iger and newly reorganized wdi
Educate me on DCA!!!!!!!!!! I gotta admit I’m biased and haven’t fallen in love with DCA like I have with Disneyland. So learning more about DCA is cool
"Educate me on DCA" I would seriously like you to do a did you know documentary on D+.. you can do a gag reel during the credits of all the times you're interupted by followers😁
Educate me on DCA. I'm chaperoning a crowd of high school grads for grad night in a couple of weeks and have set up a scavenger hunt for them based on your DCA secrets videos. So glad you're pointing this stuff out. Thank you! Hope to see you there in June. ---- Also, thank you for adding in the personal message to your audience in your videos. We lost our daughter last week to d.v.. She and I used to watch your videos and fantasize that we were wealthy enough to afford tickets. Thank you for taking time to offer words of peace and support. Again, I hope to see you there in June so I can shake your hand.
Educate me about DCA, please, Chris! I LOVE these wonderful pieces of Walt history! Thanks so much for all you do, sweetie! Much love to you, Amanda and Miles!
Chris, I appreciate the education, but the Buena Vista Street redo happened with Bob Iger being CEO, 2005 is when Eisner left, and Iger was promoted. DCA renovation was announced Oct 2007. So the comments about trying to get things past Eisner aren't exactly correct.
Yes, John Lasseter was chief creative officer at the time and talked about the revamp at the first D23 in 2009. They very intentionally wanted more classic Disney touches in the park. The original DCA was very lacking in “Disney” including Sunshine Plaza (the original entrance to DCA.) But I have a feeling Eisner was just trying to do it on the cheap more then he didn’t want Walt in the park.
I was going to say the same thing! The OG DCA was done on a strict budget. After initially losing so much on Euro Disneyland Eisner had to curtail what would be down with DCA. And at the time a huge amount of Imagineers were working on Tokyo Disney Sea which pretty much had an unrestricted budget.
EDUCATE ME ON DCA!!! Chris, You are absolutely my favorite Disney TH-camr! The videos like this, your ‘teaching’ or ‘spoiler’ videos are my favorite!!! Do you have a playlist of just these videos? I could watch them over and over! I don’t know if people realize just how much work goes into being a content creator. YOU are AWESOME, yes, YOU!!! Thank you for all you do to give us such incredible videos. I hope I’m in the park one day and get to meet you so I can tell you in person just how phenomenal you are. My adult son loves watching these videos with me. He was raised in SoCal and in the parks. You point out things that we’ve never noticed and we enjoy talking about it and looking at them when we’re in the parks. I enjoy sharing my newly acquired knowledge with friends/family when we’re in the parks together. I always give you the credit and tell them they should subscribe to your channel!😘
Educate me on DCA! I LOVE hearing about all the history and seeing all the secret stuff! Off the Page is one of my favorite stores, thank you for showing us all the detail!
Educate me on DCA. You have turned my brain 180. DCA was a half day park at best. You and the imagers have given me a whole new appreciation for DCA and for that I thank you. 😎
Thank you always for the affirmations...it's been almost 7 months since my daughter left with my granddaughter. I miss them every day. I've been focusing on myself but still think of them. I pray one day we'll be a happy family again.
Chris, another fantastic and educational video. It makes me wonder why, the next time God willing I go to Anaheim, I don't take an extra day just admiring the architecture and these details instead of running between attractions. Surely I need to go without family, wife, daughters, grandchildren, hehehehe. Greetings from Mexico and of course, Educate me on DCA !!!!
(Continue to) Educate me on DCA! Absolutely perfect timing for your recent DCA videos. I'm going there Saturday with my wife and some friends. By the time I'm done regurgitating the knowledge I've "borrowed" from you, they'll be standing in awe.....at least that's how it is playing out in my mind. In reality I'll probably crack under the pressure and have a complete lapse of memory. Haha.
I’m glad to hear you call the five and dime by its proper Spanish name Los Feliz “feh-lees”. Everyone in LA calls it Los “Fee-lus”, and it drives me crazy!
Educate me on DCA!!!! Love learning all the Disney history. The Happiest Millionaire is my favorite movie and I loved seeing the costume sketches. Didn't know they were in that store. Thank you for sharing!
Educate me on DCA…please. Looooove your secrets revealed videos Chris. I love to learn the meaning of everything and its history. So beautiful. Again, thank you for your heartfelt message. xx
The balloons and the sound of the balloons put the biggest smile on my face! I love so much that you added this to some of your videos! Thank you! Things have been really tough on us recently and this brings a little magic and a lot of happiness for us🤗🤗🤗
Educate me on DCA! I can't believe how many times I've been in Off the Page to get rubber bands for my Animation Academy drawings and I never realized what was going on with the drawings coming off the page on the ceiling!
Thanks Chris! Love all these small details about the park. That is the cool thing about having the annual pass, it allows you to explore and enjoy these details. Educate educate educate...
Buena Vista Street is my favorite place to hang out in the entire resort. I love the actors you see in the mornings. I love the shops. Love the Big Top Candy Mountain model.
Educate me about DCA! The first time I went into DCA was October 2001, second time was very crowded mid October 2017. Can’t wait to go back to visit these gems you have shown us. Love it!
Hi Chris 😊 first off - another amazing video!!!! It is so fun to listen to you! I had to just send you a note to say that I laughed so hard at the point in the video where you were trying to film the sparkly wallpaper but the mannekin legs were in the way 😂 so good! I love that you are just who you are and there is no pretending - so refreshing - keep it going!
Educate me on DCA P.S. You are an amazing, beautiful, wonderful, and just all around a great human being who deserves to be loved and admired for their kindness... much love to you my friend you are a beautiful soul.😊😊
One issue Chris, the items you showed, mostly weren't done during the time the park was created for Eisner, they were done AFTER the 1.6 BILLION dollar redo. The street was completely different and wasn't Buena Vista. Like where the Bridge is was a bad Golden Gate Bridge and was changed to an L.A. bridge later to match Buena Vista. It was called "Golden Gateway" and lead to "Sunshine Plaza" and had very little references to Walt at all. It was very bright and even garish. With the largest tile mosaic in the world at the time. So almost all of the wonderful touches that you've shown was done during the rebuild. But still nice things to know, especially the bears. Chris educate me on DCA, but also not just what's there now, but maybe what and how it changed from original to the current look. Nice job again Mr. Chris, next time do it with Ms. Amanda, you two are great together!
You are truly the “Disney Mr. Rogers”… so much happiness.
I agree!
I find it upsetting that there was ever anyone high up in the company who did not want to pay homage to Walt Disney. Feel the same way!!

Well eisner never actually said anything about walt not being in the park….that wasnt true
