  • Watch and work along with me as I perform the 90,000 mile service on my 2013 Prius C also known as an Aqua in other countries. It's an easy project that will save you a ton of money doing it yourself (I spent about $100 in materials).
    I did leave out the tire rotation, let me know in the comments if you'd be interested in seeing how to rotate tires on this car or maybe another.
    Products Used:
    Transmission Fluid: amzn.to/31HIohw
    Gear Oil Pump (not the greatest but it works):
    shop.advanceau...
    Air Filter: amzn.to/2XpFOx...
    Cabin Filter: amzn.to/2XsVO1o
    Oil Drain Gasket: amzn.to/2RkUoAA
    Oil Filter Socket: shop.advanceau...

    Always always always run a sacrificial quart of fresh new oil through, on any car/bike/truck/etc! Pour it in fast with the drain plug out, and then have your mind completely blown as you look at the crap that gets pushed out, that lingers on the bottom of the pan.

    Thank you for the video- I just did everything you listed in your video, plus the spark plug change. Spark plugs are pretty expensive for the Prius C, the dealer had the best price at $14 dollars apiece, including a 10% military veteran discount. Thank you again. I don't have a lift like you, and I use Rhino Ramps and jackstands while working under the vehicle. Works out great. I believe, that I'm done with the maintenance for now. I have 114,00 on my 2016 Prius C. I put 150 miles a day (pre-covid19) 5 days a week. I average between 50 - 56mpgs on the highway. All of my driving is highway miles. In the winter, I usally get 48-52 mpgs. It's been a great commuter car and cheaper to drive than my 1997 GMC Suburban 12mpgs. Take care, thanks again.

    • @MarkMethods

      Glad the video helped out; I have been driving 80+ miles a day for the past 8 years but recently with the pandemic I've been able to work remotely. I don't know if I'll be able to commute again after having been spoiled with saving 1.5+ hours a day driving. This is my first Prius and I feel like I'll probably be getting another in the future; comfortable, priced right, reliable, and great fuel economy; can't ask for much more. My average for the life of the vehicle is about 43 mpg, I tend to drive 75+ on the highway which is digging into the fuel economy lol.

    I just performed this and a coolant flush and fill on my 14 Prius C at 107k. A few things that I'd add that may help you:
    *I drained all three coolant silcocks (the third is near the front driver's wheel an drains the main radiator). Despite seeming to drain every last drop, I couldn't add more than 1.5-1.6gal, despite it supposedly being 1.8g. Who knows...
    *If you buy the crappy $11 AutoZone PT pump, it doesn't reach the bottom of the ATF bottles. And it leaks. And, most annoyingly, the pump jams and binds up. Maybe buy a nicer one, especially one that reaches near the bottom of the bottle. I ended up funneling the leftovers into a single bottle and repumping until the transaxle fill plug FLOWED with new ATF fluid. Overfilling is important, as air can give you a false fill and you'll need to pump more in until it just FLOWS out. Let is drain completely to get your final correct level (make sure your Prius is basically level front to back and left to right!) It will be just under 4qts
    *If you're like me and have never done this before, you're going to make an awful mess. Be prepared...take your time

    • @HaggisPower
      @HaggisPower ปีที่แล้ว

      Heh, I made a mess too. Super hard to get the level exactly right without a car lift or a pit.... Luckily my garage floor is painted.

    After doing the transmission fluid change, did the car complain after that? and How did it drive after that, Did you have any issues later?
    I watched some other videos (for Toyota cars but no one has done Prius C besides you) where people talk about the car need to be in maintenance mode and switching the gears from Drive to neutral rapidly and check the temperature for the transmission fluid using a scan tool or a temperature gun.

    I recently changed the oil of my Prius C 2012, and overfilled it by 4 quarts and a few milliliters, instead of 3.9 quarts. Though when i removed the old oil it already had 4 quarts and a little bit more. I just wanted to know if overfilling it with 4 quarts and a few milliliters can damage the engine or something?

    • @MarkMethods
      @MarkMethods  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it's not an excessive amount it'll be fine, too much oil can cause issues such as leaking, overflowing, fouled spark plugs, bent rods, and collapsed valves. That would need to be a lot of extra oil, if it's not too much above the full line it should be fine.

  • @gabelumby8206

    Why did you not just use a funnel when adding the transmission fluid?
    Or asked another way, why was that pump needed?

    • @MarkMethods
      @MarkMethods  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's a really tight space and I'm not sure you could fit a funnel in there; another way to do this would be a long hose and funnel from above but that's more of a two person event and I'm just one guy.

    • @gabelumby8206
      @gabelumby8206 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MarkMethods ok, thanks for your prompt reply. I couldn't tell where exactly you were, but I figured it might have been a tight space.
      Have you been happy with this Prius C? I found a good deal on a 2013 with only 14,000 miles. It is practically brand new. Slightly concerned about the car only being driven roughy 2,000 miles a year.

    • @MarkMethods
      @MarkMethods  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's been a great car, it's just about to roll over 100k and I'll be doing a coolant change on it along with a few other things. I'd say that car is probably fine, it sat around a lot but I wouldn't have any concerns buying a vehicle like that. For peace of mind, flush the brake fluid unless you have receipts from recently. Good luck on your potential purchase!

    Question, i bought a used prius C aka Aqua but I didn’t have the maintenance message showing up. It was 46k when I bought it and on the oil change sticker it said 51k to change or 6 months from the last time it got changed whichever comes first. Now I have just followed that without any maintenance message and changed the oil myself and no message around maintenance required showing still after changing the oil. Is that expected? Or i should see it to reset? Its 2013 imported from Japan FYI.

    • @MarkMethods

      Hey Richard! According to the Toyota manual on page 45 and 53 of this PDF toyota.us/2KV0jMG it's required to be changed under heavy driving conditions every 60k miles however I purchased this vehicle used and didn't know the history, in my personal case this was preventative maintenance.

    What do you think the coolant change/flush interval should be?

    • @MarkMethods
      @MarkMethods  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      According to the service manual, 100k miles or 120 months; I haven't found information for subsequent changes however they typically sooner than 100k but I'd feel comfortable with that interval using OEM fluid.

    • @hedgehogthesonic3181
      @hedgehogthesonic3181 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarkMethods So the coolant can be changed every 10 years or 100,000 miles, that's impressive, i was not expecting such long time to change it. Also do you think it is better to change the engine oil every 10,000 miles or 5,000 miles?
