If I was a developer I would instead of throwing their save or yelling at them I’d make the game super hard or add a hard bonus level that you can’t cheat through. Because if they could pass that super difficult level they can redeem themselves as a true pro player

Fun fact about the Witcher III one. If you killed the boss, it used to respawn over and over until it inevitably killed you. Players would just get more OP by killing the boss and selling _it's_ drops over and over, so cd projekt red had to update the game _again_ so the boss only spawned once.

UNDERTALE barely punishes you for hacking, I've skipped to the end credits so many times and you just get an ending where you spared everyone but didn't befriend them

Cheating should be punished in multiplayer games or speed runs. On single player anyone should be allowed to do whatever they want to do. If I want to ruin my own game with infinite energy or money it's my own responsibility. Times in which you had cheat codes as part of the games were amazing. Now we have to be moralists even when there is no reason to be.

I never really played online because people there are too strong for me and I had no time to dedicate to it. I even don't like games where psychologists are involved to keep people playing it, like Fortnite. I prefer to be addicted to something else :). If it was for me I would play just offlines games that have a beginning and a end.

I agree with punishing players for cheating in online games, or multiplayer games because its unfair- but in a singleplayer game I don't see the problem with it because it's only affecting the person who deliberately decided to cheat. Like the one where it deletes your progress I think is absolutely ridiculous
Of course there are exceptions for if you pirate a game.
People can cheat in games to take world records or complete games easily without putting any effort which makes it unfair to people who DO put effort

I think it's actually an oversight from the developers to put punishments on achievements if you want to get all of them in the game.
Say we use the Superman game for example, if you are going for all the achievements you would still need to input a cheat code. Another example could be Nier Automata or Lollipop Chainsaw that have achievements or trophies for literally trying to peek up the girls skirts, you would still need to do it if you are a completionist.
For Nier Automata, after finishing up to Ending C/D, there's an NPC that would allow you to buy achievements to skip doing the achievements you don't like to do. Though it's most likely that Yoko Taro gave that option cause he thought trophy hunting is pointless.
@@Leo1964 It would be if it's a ridiculous grind trophy, like the Seriously achievements from the Gears of War series, because in that case you have to grind several play styles that most likely are not what you are comfortable or accustomed to. Others are hard but a test to your mastery on the game mechanics without compromising the game experience which I think are only made for completionists that love a game or series that I'm fine with those.
@@GlauganFor me, it's more of a sign of respect and enjoyment that I want to actually have a completionist run of a game. For instance, I platinum'd FFXVI recently and then I could consider myself "done" with it- despite there being theoretically more stuff I could have done, that platinum trophy was the perfect marker of having seen and done all the relevant content the game has to offer.
The more recent God of War games have been like that too- trophies used as a mark of having done all the content worth doing, not just as a list of random pointless and/or frustrating crap.
So yeah, you could absolutely say it's pointless if you _miss the fuckin point_

Resetti being made optional in New Leaf, then removed entirely in New Horizons, is absolutely *criminal* - the guy wasn't even remotely scary or annoying; he was hilarious!

there is a SMW romhack named "Darude Sandstorm" by "dtothefourth", you can find resetti there whenever you reset your game.
the youtuber "juzcook" has a nice playthrough of this romhack.
(7 months late.) Resetti isnt actually gone in NH. He's the operator for rescue services. However you won't know that unless you've used the feature many times until either 1) you dont have the miles to pay him, which he says his own name after yelling at you for not being able to pay. or 2) you get his brother Don on the line, who accidentally name drops resetti while you're on the line with him.
Side note both Sonny and Donny can appear in the roost sometimes as guests.

What's funny about the one for Metal Gear Solid, is that even if you aren't using auto-fire, if you press the button TOO FAST, you'll fail the sequence. So you have to hammer the button fast, but not THAT fast.

I had a controller with a turbo feature back then, and used it anyway to clear it, but the game never punished me for it. I don't remember the exact kind of controller it was, but maybe its turbo was set just right that the game was none the wiser. The controller itself wasn't anything fancy.

There was a game I used to play on mobile called Wolf Online, basic animal fight simulator game where you kill others and npc animals to get stronger. But, it had a thing we referred to as “Hacker Hell”. It wasnt by any means a sure fire thing nor was it very effective, but if you did a bad enough modding of your stats to super op levels or giving yourself the ability to give negative or positive infinite points you were kind of set aside and any time you joined a server the only people on there would be other powerful hackers and modders running around killing each other and making the game unenjoyable for each other, sometimes you got out of it, and there were still tons of people using mods who weren’t in hacker hell, but it was always a cautionary tale to new players we told.

I always found it annoying because you can easily guess the password after watching a single episode of south park so being punished feels super cheap.
I'm all for funny easter eggs in solo player games but why end the game or straight up delete the file like in Banjo Kazooie just for players cheating in a way that doesn't hurt other players?

This is because players in today's society have abused reporting others for hacking or cheating. I know so because my baby brother is an example of those. He gets mad at his friends all the time and reports them for cheating when things dont go his way. Hes got the temporary ban hammer a few times and even got his accounts legitly hacked once or twice. Not saying his cry wolf was 100% false. I ask him all the time that if hes having such a hard time with those people he calls his friends...then why do you play with them?

You didn't mention Conker's Bad Fur Day. When you're in the main hub and you go to options, there's an option for cheat codes. But when you enter that option, a fire imp will say either "Giving up already huh?" or "You cheating bastard!" Also, if you enter the wrong code twice, he says "Didn't work first time, ain't gonna work a second time. DIP SHIT!"

Grunty laughing and getting a cutscene in Banjo Kazooie is there by default everytime you save and quit the game, whether or not you used cheats. It's supposed to be the technically "bad ending" since you left the game without saving your sister.
I'm 100% sure that the developers of DK64 didn't intentionally program your character to bug out upon using a GameShark.
It was a coincidence and also a happy accident.
My guess is that the GameShark somehow messes with the expansion pack. And the game is totally and utterly unplayable without the expansion pack.
Honestly, more games should do this, especially MMOs that have a trading system. They could roast people who use bots or disable multiplayer, that sort of thing.

I still remember that on Link's awakening back on the GameBoy when I was only 7 or 8. I managed to steal bombs from the shop early in the game and save after doing it, just for everyone in the game to refer to me as THIEF instead of my chosen name then on. That was 25 years ago now. Damn I'm getting old. lmao That was the good old days back before the internet had walkthrough videos and you could just search stuff online.

Dark souls does this as well but its very poorly executed and i'm convinced theres more people there that have been invaded by or have summoned a cheater unknowingly than have actually cheated.

Fun Fact: Ocho from TAWOG & Gumball (for some reason) used the Silent Hill 3 cheat code in the episode, The Tape. He used it to get snacks for free, cheat in the exam and get super speed mode. Gumball tried to use the cheat code but glitched, spawning a tank and no-clipping to it.
In guild wars 2 they publicly shamed a hacker by logging into their account, stripping off all their armor and jumping off a cliff to their death before permanently banning them and posting the video online.

For singleplayer games giving an achievement isn't bad. If someone is an achievement hunter, they will want it (including me), and having that on your profile is a win.
In single player games it always annoys me when the developers decide to waste their time on implementing a "cheater shaming routine". It's just the devs going out on a limb to not remove their own testing tools from the game and then ruin the game for people who want to use these tools. Adding in punishments, like deleting or corrupting all save games is just the devs being spiteful.
Especially with games like Banjo Kazooie, the game has 3 save slots, so if like me you had to share your games with your siblings, the devs decided that it was fair game to punish the siblings that did not cheat when there was one of us cheating. That's just terrible design. Instead they could have chosen to just remove those cheats from the game entirely.
As for achievements showing that you've been cheating, that just seems ridiculous. Again, the devs had to purposely put this in, rather than remove the cheat from the game.
In multiplayer games, putting all the cheaters into a special cheater only lobby, sounds like the perfect solution to me. They can still play the game that they've paid for and feel cool using their cheats and hacks, but it doesn't affect the legit players. If this is done in a subtle way, it can actually help the quality of life for legit players as cheaters may take a while to realise that they're in the cheaters lobby.

Honestly, while I see the hilarity of some if them, ultimately, I feel you're right on this one. Who cares if you cheat in a single player game. Heck, I've always gone and played through legitimately, then after that I cheat just to have fun on my own terms. And permanently destroying the cartridge because it caught a game shark belong used is a seriously dick move.
Yeah most of these in the video had been downright dumb, makes those game way less fun by being limited with something THAT dumb.

Konami scolding you for using the Code also exists in Gradius 3. Entering it as normal gives you all the powerups--and explodes you. You have to use the shoulder buttons instead of the D-pad for the L/R inputs to make it work.

The Banjo-Kazooie Gruntilda screen transition and game over scene happen regardless of whether you cheat or not though. In fact it's one of few games that actually show you the consequences of failing to save the day.
Was gonna say, I totally remember seeing that screen and I was definitely not smart enough to know how to cheat when I played Banjo.

You forgot that in Paper Mario TTYD when going for the lottery and using the BIOS menu to skip to the day of when you would "win" that you'll get scolded for doing so and have to buy a new ticket to get your luck again. Kind of a way to tell you for cheating to another day just to win money or even an item
Also, cheating in Valve VAC servers gives you that horrible ban to the side of your steam profile which indicated that you had cheated and to no longer be trusted and or be friends with which is a BIG Humiliation in the Steam Community,

Never understood why people hated cheaters so much. I used all of the cheat codes in every game I played back in the day.
Hate is a strong word it's just a way to make fun of someone who chooses the path of least resistance.
It's ok if you cheat in single player games. If some motherfucker decides to cheat in a multiplayer game, it can affects other people's experiences.
For someone who's a fan of South Park and has an iPad to use instead of only one PC, I see this is an absolute win (only if I can buy it)
An idea for a cheater punishment. There was an anime in which the MC was so over powered he killed his opponent, brought him back to life, and killed him over and over again until the guy finally gave up. Set up the punishment so that it will automatically save this point and restart at that point forever.

The gta Dunce hat is actually something people want. I used to be a pvp player but didn't want to farm helpless noobs in an open lobby. So after i got bored of 1v1s with other people like me, i farmed a friend for badsport just to get the hat and kill other pvp players.

Imagine a kid friendly video game where there's something like a secret puzzle needed to progress. But, if you cheat to get pass it, there's make a secret cutscene where one of characters straight up gives you the middle finger.

logically this sequence is not coded to deal damage but to instakill you so I don't think infinite health would change anything
What sucks about that South Park one is that I already knew the answer and felt kinda cheated since I wasn't cheating, it's a reference to the show. But it was still really funny so it's a mixed bag since I did genuinely enjoy the easter egg I would have missed otherwise.
