After watching a lot of your videos, I felt I gotta say this: I don't play Yu-Gi-Oh! and I don't know how it works, but hearing you analyzing cards is really relaxing
The one new thing with the god cards is that Dangers make for a really great tribute engine for them, So I guess they're "better" than before, but then again, you'd usually be better off linking into something like Saryuja than tributing for a 7900 beater.
You should do a "Why Nobody Plays" on Into The Void. It's a draw 1 spell like upstart but it's at 3 and no one plays it. Is discarding your whole hand really such a big problem? For most decks sure but are there no decks out there that can get their whole hand on the field before the end phase or use it strategically to set up the graveyard? Always been confused by this
You could technically get your whole hand on the board but most of the time you want to keep cards in your hand for rebuilding your board or handtraps for interruption. And if use Void and want to do your combo but get interrupted you basically have to scoop

Into The Void used to be a staple in Dark World since they could plusses off the discard, but for other decks its way too much of a dead draw. Again with the surface level analysis, you're looking at the best case scenario, but not the worst. Its an awful card to draw past your first turn, since you don't usually maintain a large hand in modern yugioh, most of your hand is used to generate advantages on the field. If you have it in your first turn its an upstart, if you draw it later on with a small hand its a dead card. If you top deck it its a completely dead card. You also want to keep hand traps around, but Into the Void completely negates the possibility of that. You don't always use up your entire hand either even in combo decks
Rewatching the 5ds anime and decided to give an EBI deck a go, and just realized how terrible nearly all of them are. Cusillu (the monkey): You have to suicide it (since your opponent can't attack it) and take some damage to (best case scenario) do 1200 more damage than you would have from just attacking your opponent directly, and it requires a tribute too as if it wasn't bad enough! Compare that to Chacca Chalua (the dolphin): Just does 1200 once per turn for free. Also possibly the best battle prevention effect there is. I mean, it's not like battle prevention and effect damage are exactly in high demand in modern Yu-Gi-Oh, but it just puts into perspective how bad cusillu is...

I like Aslla (the hummingbird), since its effect is a partial field nuke w/ burn on leaving the field, so even when you lose it you get a bonus, and it doesn't need to be destroyed, so banish/ bounce still trigger. It fits surprisingly well with the Fortune Lady field card (which is noteworthy soley because in 5Ds Carly, Aslla's dark signer, ran Fortune Ladies), since it banishes every summoned monster until the monsters controllers next turn, so it nukes on entry and exit.

New to the channel. Not as big a Yugioh fan as I used to be, but having used many of these cards, there's one thing I feel some people don't get Not once have I heard you say any of these cards are so bad they're worthless and unusable. All of them have times they can be used and could potentially be the focus of a winning deck. Hell, I remember having a deck that won several duels thanks to a well timed Jar of Greed that happened to give me the card I needed, or managing to get out a Wicked Avatar and my opponent wasn't able to stop me afterwards. But while any of these cards can win and can be used, they still aren't good. They are more often used for joke decks, when playing more just to have fun than to win, or by players that don't quite have the money to purchase the exact cards they need and have to make do with alternatives that have similar effects, like going for a Barrier Statue of the Abyss until you can get a better card to prevent Special Summons. If you don't have the better version, you might go with the worse one temporarily, as a placeholder. So its not like these cards don't get played because they're unusable and worthless, but because there's better options. Almost any card could be important in earning a win in a duel, even in the most ridiculous ways, but that doesn't make the card amazing. Just because once in a while you'll get a chance to use Blazing Impachi to finish off your opponent, doesn't make it amazing. But just because it isn't the best card, don't feel bad about having fun when you use it. Exodia isn't a reliable win strategy, but that doesn't mean it isn't fun on the odd chance you pull it off
The anime version of Magical Mallet shuffles itself back into the deck as well and counts as one of the cards shuffled back for when you draw. So that would be broken and likely lead to infinite spell counter loops.
Here's a topic I'd like to see you cover: Why is there no Insect themed structure deck? It's a type that has existed since the very beginning, and has had anime characters use them, and even had some notable archetypes such as Inzektor. They could easily make a whole new archetype for Insects, or support older Insects like Konami has been prone to do lately with older archetypes. Would you like to see an Insect structure?

He actually explained in a few videos that that's the problem. You're already tributing 3 monsters to normal summon a card if you require ANOTHER card to make it worth it then it goes to show how aweful they really are. Unless a quick spell card comes out and says "normal summon -insert Egyptian God cards names here- from your hand or deck by tributing monsters from your field or deck" they will never be worth it
The Wicked cards remind of a meme I did. I make a wicked Avatar deck, and people kept missing a certain line on it. "Your opponent cannot activate Spell or Trap Cards until the end of thier 2nd turn after this card is normal summoned.' I would also sometimes spit out a spicy one of for Destiny Hero Plasma and I would put a mini-lock on people. It was inconsistent, and memey.

Dark bribe is at its best when paired with solemn judgement to protect floodgates like mystic mine. If you can keep mine up the card the opponent draws won't matter. It happens pretty regularly that I stop all of my opponents side decked backrow hate with 3 judgment and 3 dark bribe
Honestly, it's kinda a shame Slifer's so terrible, though. Not many effects like that in yugioh, and actually seems like it'd be a pretty effective floodgate against a lot of combo decks these days... if you consider a hard to summon, hard to search monster with no protection of it's own 'effective', anyways. Doesn't even have the saving grace of a consistently high attack value, especially given the amount of resources you have to put into it...
Some cards I'd like to see looked at, because I think they could be good, but everyone thinks otherwise for some reason. Why Nobody Plays: Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir Ariel, Priestess of the Nekroz World Legacy Survivor Ultra Polymerisation in Prank-Kids/HEROs Salamangreat Mole/Gift Tornado Dragon A few of these are more specialised than others, but some (cursed Seal in particular) could be worth a video.
@Squeaky The First Yeah, thought so. It can hurt salamangreats (lock them out of Sanctuary/Circle) but where I really imagined it shining is in the striker mirror. Strikers afford the cost pretty easily, and killing Engage for a whole game is easily worth a -2 (just negating 1 turns a +1 to a -1, so cost already even). They usually play cards like Foolish Goods and Metalfoes Fusion which can be used for the cost without too many problems. But yeah, although the theory adds up, not that many Decks can afford to discard a Spell. Thanks.
I didn't even remember you made a video on the 'Wicked Gods', so I had to check back on that. Yeah, while most of what you said is kinda on point, you made a major mistake on 'The Wicked Avatar'. You seemed to think his stats are set when he enters the field, when it is actually a continuous effect, meaning it readjusts whenever a new 'highest ATK' is on the field. I know that both because that is how it has worked in every videogame since his release over a decade ago, and because there are rulings saying that (in special, a ruling regarding him vs Blackwing Gale the Whirlwind, which states his ATK will be cut in half to 700 if they are the only ones on the field, then immediately go back to 1400 since the highest ATK is now Gale's 1300).
I wonder if the god cards could be good if they received a spell card that would special summon them from the banished zone and remove the special summon blow up effect. Banish decks could use something like that. Plus a card like seven star sword that could banish level 10 monsters to draw 2 cards could help relieve thr brick aspect of these cards
In duel links i find that your able to add atleast 1 god card to aromage decks. Its easy to get apecial summons and with jasmine a spare normal summon. Its super easy to get 3 monstes on the field and summon the gods. Mostly used ra since your constantly gaining LP you can bring out ra with easy ovee 10k attack or leave him at zero and basically get infinite monster destruction since even after summoning him cards like rose lover wil let you special another monster. Orslifer for the same reasons, and aromage jasmine keeps your hands full. There is rarely ever a time im under 3 cards in hand for my aromage decks.
hot take, a 3100 attack normal level 4 monster would see at least some play because it'd make a board that needs to be broken with 1 card and it's basically immune to 90% of the interaction people play in the modern format (since everything hates on special summons or extra deck monsters). sure, it falls over and dies to a lot of stuff, but trading your normal summon to force a destruction effect out of your opponent seems fine, and it could beat over a decent amount of cards that see competitive play. the problem is that it would probably have to be an effect monster that doesn't let you use it for extra deck summons, which means it couldn't get normal monster support and would get hit by stuff that targets effect monsters.
In the least mean way possible, basically every competitive and casual deck right now could easily out a 3100 ATK vanilla monster. And even if they couldn't, it wouldn't matter because it'd still just be a 3100 ATK vanilla monster.
I have a question on jar of greed. If you use it along side jar turtles which are high defence lv4s you can try to get two out and draw 3 and then xyz summon something. Would this be good casually because isn't that a potential +4 with all three jar turtles out?
On montage dragon being more likely to see competitive viability than the god cards; I highly doubt that. True in isolation both are bad and montage is better, *but* the Egyptian gods are much more likely to receive support at some point due to their status.

I know I'm commenting this on an old video but can you do a video on your favourite archtypes, competitive or not. Maybe even talking about what you like about the. Examples could be, Gouki's because of how they merge my love for both Yu-Gi-Oh and Wrestling together, Raidraptor's because they look cool, Six Samurai's because they're just so awesome and I've loved them since I was a kid.
Hi Dzeeff and the yugioh community, I've just recently got involved in competitive yugioh and I was wondering where I should start? I've gone to locals 3 times and I have done reasonably well (usually 30-50 people and I have placed 2nd, 8th and 14th) and I was wondering what I should do next? Should I go to a WCQ, should I go to regionals or nationals? Should I go to a YCS or something? I'm Irish and I know we don't have quite the amount of events as America has. Thank you very much!
I'd say keep going to your locals as much as you can and if you have time to practice there then go to a regionals. Regionals can be somewhat disheartening for new people but once you have a bit of practice I'd say just go to as many as you can to get more practice.
Don't quote me on any of this. I don't play nor have I ever played competitively, I'm just going off of what I hear people say. I would start with understanding the meta. People at YCS and other big events are going to be playing either the best decks or rogue to counter those decks. Most anything can work at locals from my experience so it helps to be prepared to deal with the heavy hitters of the format. Next, look on Konami's website to see what events are happening in your region. You should be able to find the info pretty easily, most events require a bit of traveling so it really just depends on how far you wanna go. I think it goes LCS->Regionals->Nationals->WCQ->World's. You have to win at Nats to go to the WCQ and win there to go to Worlds. It's a long road but if you're skillful enough and you keep practicing you can definitely make it. If you want an in-depth look at the meta, I highly recommend Lithium2300. He does breakdowns of OCG meta trends every few months and does deck profiles of winners from many of Europe's big events. Some of this information might be incorrect so I would do a bit of your own research as well. Hope this helped!
Dylan Reasor & Anthony Rodriguez thank you very much. After checking it looks like my locals (as it's the largest in the area is actually hosting a regional WCQ in 2 months. I think I'll head there and try my hand. In terms of the meta, I play Cyber Dragons which aren't top tier but can compete pretty well and some really nice guys have gone above and beyond to help me make a great side deck to deal with meta threats. In the meantime there will be 8 locals I can practise at, so hopefully I'll be able to compete in some capacity at that WCQ. Thanks again guys!

I feel like Magical Mallet would be balanced if you could send 1 card from the main deck to the grave between shuffling the cards in the deck and drawing the cards. Grave effects are common enough that this would be viable in most decks and great in decks centered around grave effects
What you're describing is Foolish Burial with an extra perk. Of course Magical Mallet is gonna be viable when you also tack on the effect of possibly the best -1 in the entire game.
to make the gods viable but not broken, we need a quick play spell that says "all effects of this card can only be used once per duel, special summon 3 divine tokens, immediately after the summon, tribute summon a divine type monster that requires 3 tributes from your hand or deck in addition of your normal summon, the summoned monster can only leave the field if destroyed by battle and cant be target by card effects, this card effects cant be negated, once per turn you can banish this card from the gy and one divine type monster from your hand or deck, all divine monster you control gain atk equal the banned monster until the end phase"
Proper summoned, kaiju protection(can only leave the field if destroyed by battle. The card cant be tributed, or banished, or destroyed by card effect) and target protection, it also gives a reason to use all 3 gods because of the boost of the gy effect, each card gain a focus, rá stall and card removal, slifer control and obelisk a big monster
With Legacy of Yata-Garasu, youre supposed to play it in a spirit deck and creature swap your spirits because they return to your hand and your keep your opponent's monster permanently, plus you get to draw two cards. a little bit too slow for 2019 yugioh unfortunately
If Card Trader could be used immediately, would it be good enough? I think probably not but am not entirely sure. Also, if Mallet instead was a continuous spell that let you do its effect once per turn during your turn, would it be good? I figure that that is a more interesting question.
When your a casual player dark bribe was the only card I owned that did spell/trap negation other than a few cards that I never use for not having enough support cards for it
I kinda hope in the future Konami makes some really broke support for the god cards, enough for them to be meta just to see how powerful the support would have to be to make them good

i play jar of greed in my paleozoic deck in duel links, so that i can draw a card and chain link one of my paleozoic monsters, and with odions ability the player gets 200 dmg, so its not that bad to play

I am curious, and you've probably been asked this before, but how good would the Egyptian God Cards have been if they were released in their current state back in say 2005 or 2006, when they were still fresh in everyone's minds from the show. Probably still not that great, but I'm curious.
Honestly? Even worse. Special Summoning was a lot more difficult so getting three tributes would have been way harder, and everyone used cards like Dark Hole, Raigeki, Mirror Force, etc so Obelisk's protection wouldn't have mattered as much
That is true. Didn't occur to me how much harder getting three tributable monsters on the field would've been back then. IIRC even when Raigeki was banned, Lightning Vortex easily took its place for that time. Thanks for the insight.

Just start releasing a new super generic vanilla monster in each new pack with 100 ATK more than the last one. When one shows up in Meta, you've found your sweet spot.
Name one vanilla monster that isn't specifically used just because of it's arch type connection, or because it's just the highest ATK monster with a type a specific combo needs.

Why doesn't Konami update the Egyptian god cards so they're easier to summon and have better protection. Give Slifer 2000 attack point and RA should get the attack of the monsters used to summon it. Trap cards should be useless and spells should only work for one turn like in the anime.

If you don't have the better version, you might go with the worse one temporarily, as a placeholder.
So its not like these cards don't get played because they're unusable and worthless, but because there's better options. Almost any card could be important in earning a win in a duel, even in the most ridiculous ways, but that doesn't make the card amazing. Just because once in a while you'll get a chance to use Blazing Impachi to finish off your opponent, doesn't make it amazing. But just because it isn't the best card, don't feel bad about having fun when you use it. Exodia isn't a reliable win strategy, but that doesn't mean it isn't fun on the odd chance you pull it off
The anime version of Magical Mallet shuffles itself back into the deck as well and counts as one of the cards shuffled back for when you draw. So that would be broken and likely lead to infinite spell counter loops.

Here's a topic I'd like to see you cover: Why is there no Insect themed structure deck?
It's a type that has existed since the very beginning, and has had anime characters use them, and even had some notable archetypes such as Inzektor. They could easily make a whole new archetype for Insects, or support older Insects like Konami has been prone to do lately with older archetypes.

He actually explained in a few videos that that's the problem. You're already tributing 3 monsters to normal summon a card if you require ANOTHER card to make it worth it then it goes to show how aweful they really are. Unless a quick spell card comes out and says "normal summon -insert Egyptian God cards names here- from your hand or deck by tributing monsters from your field or deck" they will never be worth it
I sort of wish they just made erratas for them to make them stronger.
The Wicked cards remind of a meme I did. I make a wicked Avatar deck, and people kept missing a certain line on it. "Your opponent cannot activate Spell or Trap Cards until the end of thier 2nd turn after this card is normal summoned.' I would also sometimes spit out a spicy one of for Destiny Hero Plasma and I would put a mini-lock on people. It was inconsistent, and memey.

Dark bribe is at its best when paired with solemn judgement to protect floodgates like mystic mine. If you can keep mine up the card the opponent draws won't matter. It happens pretty regularly that I stop all of my opponents side decked backrow hate with 3 judgment and 3 dark bribe

Honestly, it's kinda a shame Slifer's so terrible, though. Not many effects like that in yugioh, and actually seems like it'd be a pretty effective floodgate against a lot of combo decks these days... if you consider a hard to summon, hard to search monster with no protection of it's own 'effective', anyways. Doesn't even have the saving grace of a consistently high attack value, especially given the amount of resources you have to put into it...

@Squeaky The First Yeah, thought so. It can hurt salamangreats (lock them out of Sanctuary/Circle) but where I really imagined it shining is in the striker mirror. Strikers afford the cost pretty easily, and killing Engage for a whole game is easily worth a -2 (just negating 1 turns a +1 to a -1, so cost already even). They usually play cards like Foolish Goods and Metalfoes Fusion which can be used for the cost without too many problems.
But yeah, although the theory adds up, not that many Decks can afford to discard a Spell. Thanks.
I didn't even remember you made a video on the 'Wicked Gods', so I had to check back on that. Yeah, while most of what you said is kinda on point, you made a major mistake on 'The Wicked Avatar'. You seemed to think his stats are set when he enters the field, when it is actually a continuous effect, meaning it readjusts whenever a new 'highest ATK' is on the field. I know that both because that is how it has worked in every videogame since his release over a decade ago, and because there are rulings saying that (in special, a ruling regarding him vs Blackwing Gale the Whirlwind, which states his ATK will be cut in half to 700 if they are the only ones on the field, then immediately go back to 1400 since the highest ATK is now Gale's 1300).

I played a dumb slifer deck a while back, it was fun to pull it off till people got pissed they couldnt summon and quit
I wonder if the god cards could be good if they received a spell card that would special summon them from the banished zone and remove the special summon blow up effect. Banish decks could use something like that. Plus a card like seven star sword that could banish level 10 monsters to draw 2 cards could help relieve thr brick aspect of these cards
In duel links i find that your able to add atleast 1 god card to aromage decks. Its easy to get apecial summons and with jasmine a spare normal summon. Its super easy to get 3 monstes on the field and summon the gods.
Mostly used ra since your constantly gaining LP you can bring out ra with easy ovee 10k attack or leave him at zero and basically get infinite monster destruction since even after summoning him cards like rose lover wil let you special another monster.
Orslifer for the same reasons, and aromage jasmine keeps your hands full. There is rarely ever a time im under 3 cards in hand for my aromage decks.
hot take, a 3100 attack normal level 4 monster would see at least some play because it'd make a board that needs to be broken with 1 card and it's basically immune to 90% of the interaction people play in the modern format (since everything hates on special summons or extra deck monsters). sure, it falls over and dies to a lot of stuff, but trading your normal summon to force a destruction effect out of your opponent seems fine, and it could beat over a decent amount of cards that see competitive play. the problem is that it would probably have to be an effect monster that doesn't let you use it for extra deck summons, which means it couldn't get normal monster support and would get hit by stuff that targets effect monsters.
In the least mean way possible, basically every competitive and casual deck right now could easily out a 3100 ATK vanilla monster. And even if they couldn't, it wouldn't matter because it'd still just be a 3100 ATK vanilla monster.
I have a question on jar of greed. If you use it along side jar turtles which are high defence lv4s you can try to get two out and draw 3 and then xyz summon something. Would this be good casually because isn't that a potential +4 with all three jar turtles out?
On montage dragon being more likely to see competitive viability than the god cards; I highly doubt that. True in isolation both are bad and montage is better, *but* the Egyptian gods are much more likely to receive support at some point due to their status.

Examples could be, Gouki's because of how they merge my love for both Yu-Gi-Oh and Wrestling together, Raidraptor's because they look cool, Six Samurai's because they're just so awesome and I've loved them since I was a kid.

Hi Dzeeff and the yugioh community, I've just recently got involved in competitive yugioh and I was wondering where I should start? I've gone to locals 3 times and I have done reasonably well (usually 30-50 people and I have placed 2nd, 8th and 14th) and I was wondering what I should do next? Should I go to a WCQ, should I go to regionals or nationals? Should I go to a YCS or something? I'm Irish and I know we don't have quite the amount of events as America has. Thank you very much!
I'd say keep going to your locals as much as you can and if you have time to practice there then go to a regionals. Regionals can be somewhat disheartening for new people but once you have a bit of practice I'd say just go to as many as you can to get more practice.
Don't quote me on any of this. I don't play nor have I ever played competitively, I'm just going off of what I hear people say. I would start with understanding the meta. People at YCS and other big events are going to be playing either the best decks or rogue to counter those decks. Most anything can work at locals from my experience so it helps to be prepared to deal with the heavy hitters of the format. Next, look on Konami's website to see what events are happening in your region. You should be able to find the info pretty easily, most events require a bit of traveling so it really just depends on how far you wanna go. I think it goes LCS->Regionals->Nationals->WCQ->World's. You have to win at Nats to go to the WCQ and win there to go to Worlds. It's a long road but if you're skillful enough and you keep practicing you can definitely make it. If you want an in-depth look at the meta, I highly recommend Lithium2300. He does breakdowns of OCG meta trends every few months and does deck profiles of winners from many of Europe's big events. Some of this information might be incorrect so I would do a bit of your own research as well. Hope this helped!
Dylan Reasor & Anthony Rodriguez thank you very much. After checking it looks like my locals (as it's the largest in the area is actually hosting a regional WCQ in 2 months. I think I'll head there and try my hand. In terms of the meta, I play Cyber Dragons which aren't top tier but can compete pretty well and some really nice guys have gone above and beyond to help me make a great side deck to deal with meta threats. In the meantime there will be 8 locals I can practise at, so hopefully I'll be able to compete in some capacity at that WCQ. Thanks again guys!

I feel like Magical Mallet would be balanced if you could send 1 card from the main deck to the grave between shuffling the cards in the deck and drawing the cards. Grave effects are common enough that this would be viable in most decks and great in decks centered around grave effects
What you're describing is Foolish Burial with an extra perk. Of course Magical Mallet is gonna be viable when you also tack on the effect of possibly the best -1 in the entire game.
to make the gods viable but not broken, we need a quick play spell that says "all effects of this card can only be used once per duel, special summon 3 divine tokens, immediately after the summon, tribute summon a divine type monster that requires 3 tributes from your hand or deck in addition of your normal summon, the summoned monster can only leave the field if destroyed by battle and cant be target by card effects, this card effects cant be negated, once per turn you can banish this card from the gy and one divine type monster from your hand or deck, all divine monster you control gain atk equal the banned monster until the end phase"
Proper summoned, kaiju protection(can only leave the field if destroyed by battle. The card cant be tributed, or banished, or destroyed by card effect) and target protection, it also gives a reason to use all 3 gods because of the boost of the gy effect, each card gain a focus, rá stall and card removal, slifer control and obelisk a big monster

With Legacy of Yata-Garasu, youre supposed to play it in a spirit deck and creature swap your spirits because they return to your hand and your keep your opponent's monster permanently, plus you get to draw two cards. a little bit too slow for 2019 yugioh unfortunately

i play jar of greed in my paleozoic deck in duel links, so that i can draw a card and chain link one of my paleozoic monsters, and with odions ability the player gets 200 dmg, so its not that bad to play

I am curious, and you've probably been asked this before, but how good would the Egyptian God Cards have been if they were released in their current state back in say 2005 or 2006, when they were still fresh in everyone's minds from the show. Probably still not that great, but I'm curious.
Honestly? Even worse. Special Summoning was a lot more difficult so getting three tributes would have been way harder, and everyone used cards like Dark Hole, Raigeki, Mirror Force, etc so Obelisk's protection wouldn't have mattered as much
That is true. Didn't occur to me how much harder getting three tributable monsters on the field would've been back then. IIRC even when Raigeki was banned, Lightning Vortex easily took its place for that time. Thanks for the insight.

Why doesn't Konami update the Egyptian god cards so they're easier to summon and have better protection. Give Slifer 2000 attack point and RA should get the attack of the monsters used to summon it. Trap cards should be useless and spells should only work for one turn like in the anime.
I think Konami wilt hasnt to Make a lvl 4 8000 ATK card, but limited to 1 to see competitive play.
