Mini 37 key is huge for portability and travel for mobile producers. At just under 19 inches long this can fit into most backpacks and carry on luggage. Love the form factor. Just wish they improved the keybed. This form factor with yamaha reface or NI M32 style mini keys would be a dream come true
Really cool review of the Mini MK4. You are working much too hard and churning these videos on an hourly basis! Proud of your work ethics. Thank you for sharing with your community. 🙏❤️
For us folks who like to work in the Arranger, the Transport mode coupled with the pads’ Keystroke custom mode is amazing. We now essentially have a dedicated controller for Live’s arranger. Quite surprised more hasn’t been made of this.
Almost worth getting these just for the unique features. Really like the direction they're headed in. I like how much the hardware can do for you to help progress things along verses having to do it al in software. Really nice.
Soooo the step sequencer DOESNT work on Logic Pro then? Even tho it HAS a step sequencer in the DAW, it won’t work with the launchkey’s step sequencer?
Hey - when using it as a drum sequencer, can you set a 32 or 64 step sequence and page the pads or not? I basically want to tap/sequence a drum part - not restricted to 16 steps - loop it so I can jam to it. If you use the Auturia Keystep Pro instead, can you and what do you have to do to transfer the midi to a DAW? Thanks!
I have the previous version of the Launchkey mini, as well as a couple Komplete Kontrol keyboards. The old Launchkey does have the strum mode, though it was added later after release in a firmware update. I mainly got the Komplete Kontrol keyboards so I could use nks compatible stuff, since that makes many instruments accessable to me as a screen reader user, though I am certainly looking into getting the 37 key mini so I have a keyboard that I can use for more things outside of Komplete Kontrol.
Hey guys, what do you think? Launchkey Mini 37 MK4 or the Arturia Minilab 3 with 25 keys? The 37 keys sounds way better for me as a pianist, but Sanjay point about the keybed quality really made me think about it :/ Arturia seems to have the best keybed quality on the market at mini size, but with that amount of pads and keys.
I got mine yesterday and it's really an amazing controller. The only thing I found a bit annoying is how 'slow' the knobs are.... It takes like 4-5 motions to go for minimum value to max - so a full filter sweep is for example is very tricky to make. this behavior really makes performing with it a bit meh... - is here any way to change this behavior of the knobs?
It used to be RECORD LABELS trying to outdo each other....now its the AUDIO GEAR companies. I produce and own a blog hosting VST and plugin deals .... So MUCH variety in all the software and synths and now hardware being offered...but Novation seems to be aiming to steal some of ARTURIA thunder this week with the timing... Which means Behringer is probably somewhere plotting and scheming as well ..its all good fun and we as PRODUCERS win when they compete 😊
arturia has quality keybed but shitty DAW control; novation has dope ableton control and features but a shitty keyboard; they should combine their power.
Which mic should i get in the $185-275 range AKG P420 ($185) AT2050 ($200), LCT 440 ($250) AT4040 ($275) I'm a standard - low tenor voice. Using ONLY for vocals to make music, not for instruments.
Since Novation doesn't come with virtual instruments software like Arturia does (Analog LAB), is there anything (possibly free) that could be used with Novation? I can't find anything. It seems like Analog LAB works only with Arturias. For example when connecting M-Audio Oxygen, the Analog LAB does not see the device.
oh well; I guess it's too much to ask a decent keybed paired with one of the greatest ableton remote in this category (seriously the new sequencer feature is dope and the plugin control is really good; love the arp as well; how about having a good keyboard on my keyboard?). I'ld also take a zero key version to pair with my keyboard of choice. maybe having the 25 just for the remote on top of keystep 37 is not such a terrible idea?
11:41I love that the Novation keyboard has this built in. Can you use this keyboard with Komplete and use the scale/chord mode from Novation to control that software?
Hi Sanjay I have en idea for a video, that I think you will be the right one to make. I would like to know how well the midi keyboards with aftertouch handles the integration with 3rd party software. We are a lot of people working cross platform with both NI, Arturia, Omnisphere etc, and one keyboard should be able to work with all of our software on a decent level. - How easy is it to control arturia software from the New NI keyboard and vice versa. Is Korg the better choice for controling all of them with midi 2.0?
wish there was more coverage on the larger 37 model, I used to have a mk3 but my fingers would get stuck when i needed to hit white keys between black ones, and also the keys sensitivity was a bit weird, either too hard or too soft between the sensitivity presets, wonder if things are any better there
Yeah, presonus seems to be lacking when it comes to collaborations with other hardware manufacturers, but integration with their own hardware is, gotta say, f***ING amazing
@SanjayC If I use the arp to sequence a roll with a drum sound to act as a note repeat function with the Mk4 mini, does the note inside ableton’s midi scroll show a single note sustained out for the time I was holding the roll, or will ableton be able to track each individual hit as a bunch of separate midi notes for the duration I was holding the roll? Looking to be able to track each note individually or would I achieve this a different way? Appreciate any help you can provide about this! Thank you.
can i Split the keyboard with cubase to have 2 different sounds at the same time ( can play on the lower part: a Bass and on the upper part strings ) ???
I never liked the novation keyboard personally, i use reaper and i have countless ways of doing one thing right with a simple shortcut so all the extra functionality they offer doesn't even matter to me, what matters the most to me is the keybed!
Great video..Anyone know if the Arturia key step 37 has that deep integration with Arturia software or is it just on the newer keyboards like Analog lab etc.?
I miss the days when Novation would just give you the maximum amount of controllers per square inch like they did with the SL Mk2. Now it's just more of the same "charging a premium for a penny's worth of features."
I had some audio issues in the second half of the video. But if you're hearing it in the first half, let me know because then I'm changing the mic! :-)
i have previous version of mini 25. I hate it and dont use it because the key sensitivity is terrible. it can barely play quiet notes. goes into peak way too easy and all the time. I also have big 61 key and its very good, so i was disappointed
So they haven’t improved the woeful keybed from the previous Launchkey Mini? How come Yamaha can make an awesome mini keybed in the Reface, yet these guys, who specialise in midi keys, can’t? 🤷♂️ Hard pass…

Another great review, Sanjay. Very informative and timely.

Sanjay C, amazing video bro
Excellent in depth review & great presentation. Love the editing also.
Almost worth getting these just for the unique features. Really like the direction they're headed in. I like how much the hardware can do for you to help progress things along verses having to do it al in software. Really nice.
Shame Novation doesn't invest more in quality keybeds. One might even say it is the most important feature of a keyboard.
For me as a Bedroom producer, I don't care on keys. The features are essential.
Amazing video ! Excellent knowledge Sanjay ! Thanks 🙏🏻 ❤
You're on fire this week!
haha...yeah. So much came out! Thanks for the Super Thanks!!
❤ Thanks for the great review. I wish it had Repeat. That’s so useful for doing MPC-style drum programming. You can kind of use an arpeggiator though.
Soooo the step sequencer DOESNT work on Logic Pro then? Even tho it HAS a step sequencer in the DAW, it won’t work with the launchkey’s step sequencer?
I'm excited for mine
So Sanjay, if money was no issue what keyboard/midi controller would you recommend?
Interesting, I hope Akai Mpk mini plus could include those features too 😢
I hope they fixed the mini's keybed. That's why I stuck with arturia. I hated novation's key feel.
Would love those features in newest lauchpad .
Damn. I literally just picked up a Korg nanoStudio on Wednesday. The Launchkey Mini MK4 would've been a better choice for my needs.
What is the good launchkey mini or launchkey 25 which is better what is different and good future

nice feature for a midi key
This vs oxygen pro mini 25, which one's better for live performance?
thank you for the video!! are you now able to arm tracks in ableton with the mk4 series?

can you quickly loop record and layer different size loops like with Arthuria?

Well, it's a MIDI controller and software, so even if they are different brands, all should integrate with no issues :)

Hello ! For the test , you are use the script Launkey Mini Mk3 in Ableton ? Thanx !!!🎧
Wish they added bluetooth
then add hotspot too lol

Side note do you use the MPC One Plus
Does the step sequencing feature work with fl studio?
I have the mini mk3 25 but for some reason I cannot use the DAW mode or Plug-IN mode.

18:10 ... i like that LOGIC integration .. a lot but the logic REMOTE for ipad cant do this ??
Why no faders?
For what? Like minilab 3? Useless.
Knobs are more useful
Not sure if it’s your mic or TH-cam compression but audio has a lot of artifacts when speaking
I had some audio issues in the second half of the video. But if you're hearing it in the first half, let me know because then I'm changing the mic! :-)
