First Time Using 3rd Party IRs on the Quad Cortex

- I was building a new preset using only Neural Captures and decided I wanted to bring in 3rd party impulse responses (IRs) as well. Since I had never done this before, I thought it might be useful to do a short video going through it.
You can find the preset and captures under my Neural account (davlavMusic).

I have never messed with IR's at all Thanks for making us another video! I shared in the forum. Hopefully some of the people there are beginning to subscribe. I find very little interaction goes on in the forum and only a handful even take the time to "Like" or comment at all. God bless you David.
The Cab block and an IR Loader block perform the same function in the preset. You would not run them in sequence but you could run them in parallel (which would be like running two cabs in the real world). The Cab allows you more control (mic type, mic placement) so its a more adjustable way to do things but you're limited to the cabs that come with the QC. A lot of people have 3rd party IRs that they like and want to use in place of those that come with the QC.
Yeah, I've seen that there's no much back and forth on the forum. I see more interaction in the Neural DSP Quad Cortex Official Usergroup on Facebook: facebook.com/groups/quadcortexofficial/
@@davlavmusic7070 Thanks for that information. Makes sense. An IR is what it is but a Cab can be adjusted. I have never moved the Mike around or any of those type things. Nice to know you can.
@@BrianVallotton My advice: unless you have some IRs you've used in the past that you love (many folks like the OwnHammer IR's for example) there's no reason to use anything other than the Cabs built into the QC.
@@davlavmusic7070 Thanks David, I really can’t hear much of a difference most of the time. Then again my 62 year old ears are kinda Road worn. 🤪
I love using 2IRs and setting one at a 25 millisecond delay. .. It really thickens up the tone.
I'll give that a try. Thanks!
Do you hear high-frequency squealing at 2:39? What does it come form? I have the same problem even if I don;t use IRs
I'm not hearing it. Is it a single squeal or something that lasts longer?
@@davlavmusic7070 much longer. During whole video. Maybe sth is wrong with my bayer dynamics dt 770 pro. I will check in few days with my friends studio monitors
@MsDebiut let me know. Maybe your monitors are better than mine and I'm just not hearing it.
I hear it as well. I think it's the QC EMI noise issue, it disappears when the noise gate shuts the sound down.
Hi Davlav thanks for another good video! Have you tried using dual IR's? Whenever I use two different IR's quad cortex crashes in 10-15 minutes. I don't know it's related to IR types I'm using or directly qc issue. Can you give it a try and see if you encounter any issues? Cheers
So are you using a dual IR loader or two separate IT loader blocks? In parallel?
I've been using this dual IR block with no issue. And I tried switching to using two single IR blocks in parallel and that fine as well. Let me know what config you're using and I'll give it a try.
@@davlavmusic7070 I've been trying for over an hour to crash QC but it seems to be working fine =) I also tried both dual IR loader and parallel blocks. I tried creating a preset from scratch and also tried changing the cabs in factory presets. Everything seems fine now, maybe the crashings were due to some other reason. Thanks again!
What happens if you leave the Cab and then load an IR? Is that the same as playing from 2 cabs/Combining them?
That would be like running one cab, putting a mic on it, and then running the mic signal through another cab. You could run a Cab block in parallel with an IR Loader block to have it be like running through 2 cabinets in the real world.
Is there anyway to get the particular IR's you used in this preset?

Where did you get your ir’s from?
Amalgam. They are from their free pack: www.amalgamcaptures.com/ir-cabs
I thought when you have mono signal chain there is no stereo effect. But this doesn't apply to mixing two IRs within in mono signal chain?!
No the signal chain is always stereo overall. Some of the amps are mono and will force everything back to center, but then you can have stereo blocks afterwards that move things to left/right. I just did a video around stereo effects on the QC you should check it out for more info.
how do you shorten IRs? I have IRs that are too long to upload.
I'm assuming you mean the wav files are too long, not that the names are. I'm not sure how you would accomplish that. I think you'd need a specific tool, but having never done it I can't say. Where did you get the IRs? Maybe the people that created them can help.
Nono. Cardinal points. Stop partial panning.
