Bosch Intuvia Electric Bike Display Settings

  • While visiting the Accell Group in Southern California, I was able to spend some time digging into the Bosch Intuvia LCD display control pad on a Haibike and wanted to share some of the deeper settings. In this video, I show how to change units from miles to kilometers, how to clear trip distance, average speed, and max speed, how to activate lights, and how to enable walk mode. This display is a lot deeper than the Bosch Purion. It is removable and does swivel (to reduce glare), and it even has an active Micro USB port for charging accessories (5 volt, 500 milliamp output). The remote button pad is extremely easy to reach and very responsive to presses. the plus and minus deliver tactile clicks and the i button is rubberized so you can feel your way around without even having to look down. This is my personal favorite electric bike display, and it shares many similarities with the Bosch Nyon color LCD (which is only available in Europe right now). Both displays use a similar button pad and are compatible with the COBI interface, which was recently acquired by Bosch. electricbikereview.com/access...
One note about the Bosch Intuvia LCD computer unit, there is a coin cell lithium-ion battery inside (CR2016) that will eventually expire. You need to remove the display and unscrew it in order to replace this battery. It happened to my Uncle, who thought that the display had broken... Nope, just an expired battery. Note also that the Intuvia can be more permanently fixed to the mount interface by a set screw underneath. If it feels like your Intuvia is not coming off easily, consider looking for this set screw by completely removing the mount from the handlebar.
I do wish that the display had a battery percentage readout or finer increments on the battery infographic (it just shows 5 bars, which is 20% steps), but at least there's a dynamic range menu that updates based on your level of assist and last mile of riding. Depending on the motor in use, you may have eMTB mode (which replaces Sport mode) for dynamic power output based more on torque... it offers 120% to 300% assist and requires less hand/button input while riding. I appreciate that many ebike shops are able to wire-in lights to run off of the Bosch battery system, it seems that they connect at the motor controller and use 6 volts DC.
    Quick tips:
    - The buttons on the control pad include Walk (top edge), +, i (information), and -
    - The buttons on the display panel include reset, i (information), power, and light
    - To change units from miles to kilometers, hold reset and i on the display panel to enter the settings menu
    - To reset trip distance, average speed, or max speed, navigate to the menu by pressing i and then hold the reset button for a few seconds
    - To activate lights (if they are wired in), hold the light button for a few seconds
    - To navigate through the trip stat menus, press the i button, this includes: Trip Distance, Odometer, Clock, Max Speed, Average Speed, Trip Time, Range
    - To activate walk mode, you must be in one of the four levels of assist, then, press the walk mode button on the control pad and then hold +, not all ebikes have walk mode enabled, Trek is one brand that seems to disable it on all of their bikes
    - The display is always backlit, you can raise and lower the brightness in the settings menu (hold reset and i to enter the settings menu) but you cannot completely turn off backlighting
    - The settings and configuration menu allows you to update the clock, wheel circumference, language, units (kilometers vs. miles), time format (24 hour or 12 hour), shift recommendation, power on, display version, firmware version, and battery version
    Navigation aids:
    - Micro USB port at 1:10
    - How to enter the settings / configuration menu at 5:05
    - How to change units (miles to kilometers) at 5:05
    - How to activate lights at 4:07
    - How to activate walk mode at 4:39
    - How to reset trip distance, average speed, and max speed at 3:59 and 4:28
    - How to change menu readouts at 3:16
To compliment this video, I have also created a post in the EBR forums with written instructions and pictures which you can visit here: electricbikereview.com/forum/...
The official Bosch website lists all of their display panel specifications at: www.bosch-ebike.com/us-en/pro... EBR was paid to perform this review #Sponsored We try to be honest, thorough, and fun! Comparison tools, shop directory, and forums at: ElectricBikeReview.com

Thanks for the walk through. I've been enjoying your videos on various Tern Electric bicycles. I just bought the Tern HSD s+ which has this larger display. Didn't realize it could charge your phone. This was a very pleasant surprise. Should have my new bike by next weekend. Looking forward to some new adventures with my newly rescued beagle basset mix named Maximus. Safe biking to all!

Thanks for this. Am about to purchase my 1sr ebike which will come with the Purina display. As we know, a fixed, non removable unit. Living where I do, I need the theft protection the Intuvia offers. Plus, clearly the Ituvia offers more. The upgrade will be worth the £20/£30 difference. Thanks again .

Oh man, thanks! I’ve had my Haibike Sduro Trekking 9.5 for over a year now and never even knew there was a USB port on the side of the Intuvia! All those other settings as well, VERY helpful - been having issues for over 6 months with the Intuvia module only powering up halfway, ie; The display turns on except for the MPH and I cannot click into ECO or any other level. Sometimes it will suddenly fully power up after a minute, other times it just powers back down after a minute and I have to try again.

    A couple things you missed:
When you reset trip time, trip distance, or average speed, it also resets the other two.
You can also reset range. This one I learned from one of your videos! For example, if you live at the top of a hill, range will be low when you get home. Reset the range and it'll increase, since it will forget your recent climb and assume average consumption per mile.
So there are 3 "flavors" of reset.

One addition I read on. Propel video recently is that if for some reason the Intuvia display doesn’t turn on you can do so by pressing the button on the side of the battery powerpack. You can also charge the Intuvia display by using that same micro USB port.

Hi, I recently bought a Kalkhoff endeavour advance 2018 ebike which has an Bosch performance CX motor.
All the software and firmware is the latest (5.7.3.0/1.7.0.0/1.7.1.0) as displayed in the review.
However when switching to "sport" mode, "eMTB" is not (briefly) displayed on the intuvia display. Any idea of reason why this is ?

Thank you! It's not easy to find this information. About the USB charging port, does it keep your smartphone at the same level of charge while using a GPS app or does it recharge it to 100%?

One correction: to enter the configuration mode you hold down Reset and i simultaneously, but to exit configuration you hold down Reset by itself. Otherwise it tends to jump back into configuration mode again, very frustrating! You have to fiddle with this every once in a while because the clock tends to run slow, losing maybe two or three minutes per month.

The display of this thing was the only thing I could see. I nearly wiped out into a tree a few times. Any ideas how to turn screen brightness down?

I can see that the Intuvia offers more functions but I just wonder whether the Purion is more robust?
How many times do bikes topple over? Would the Intuvia be more likely to break in an accidental topple over? What about rain? Will riding your bike in wet weather kill the Intuvia?

My 2015 model had the battery in the head unit die on it as well, but Bosch said that it IS NOT a coin battery, it's a rechargeable NiMH battery and they made me pay $130 for a whole new head unit. So your uncle is confused.

I find this function pretty useless, and I have a cargo bike. Even with a filled bucket, it does a better job at hurting your shins with the pedals, then propelling you forward.

There's no coin battery inside. It's powered by a small lithium ion battery pack. Which in turn, gets its power from the big battery on the bike.

You can screw it onto the holder from the back of the mount. However, it is safer to remove the display and take it with you as this locks the bike's motor.

Why can't this thing do proper math? If I ride with a 500ms wheel rotation time and a 2m130 circumference, instead of showing 15,3 km/h it shows 16,3 km/h. I set the wheel diameter to 2130 in setup, and used it on a self made pulse counter to compare side by side. Strange enough, the lap distance is identical, so that does get calculated the correct way. Somehow this piece of software junk from Bosch, ads a 6% bonus to the speed to make you feel faster.... These things are nasty, they only support properly to 23,5 km/h, if you try to go 25, you sweat your pants off.
