Good question. Also, silver is a byproduct of other mining activities. If mining of industrial metals slow will that significantly reduce the amount of silver production?
There’s lots of money on the sidelines, which means that there’s more than enough fuel to launch precious metals prices. And as Rick rule says, it won’t take a drastic reallocation of the mainstream investor’s portfolio, there only needs to be a reversion to the mean portfolio holding 2% in precious metals and their miners. The current allocation to those investments is at an all time low of about 1/2 of one percent. (In 1980 it peaked at 7%). Going to 2% would cause a 4x appreciation. Could 7% happen again? Yep.
The Fed has been creating inflation (inflating/expanding the currency supply) for the past 50 years. What bank gives you 3%? I haven't seen 3% offered from a bank for about 30 years. Today It's more like 0.5% being offered and that's with a sizeable minimum amount sitting in account. Gold is the best savings account you can have.
@@realdata8624 I don't know about Robinhood, but a CD is not very liquid? And besides, I was comparing "gold" to a savings account "in the bank." Apples to apples. I've been in a few situations (natural disasters and large weekend withdrawals) where my money sitting in a bank account did me zero good as I had no access to it. So I've silver, gold and cash in my home safe. CBDC and a tyrannical gov't may someday make all physical money and currency obsolete to the masses, but until then I control my money.
