I was one of the mid 70s deejays from Ultra Sounds Disco. Big influences and mentors were Dr Bob Lee, Jap and Brucie, Phase Brothers, Disco Twins, the pioneers just before the birth of Hip Hop. Worked across the river on Roosevelt for 20 years til 2010 then moved here. Yes. QB was rough but it was a place where I remember the most love among the inhbitants, and to date I still have not seen that anywhere else and I will miss it and always remember it. His words, almost verbatim, were, "It could be the sunniest day outside in the middle of the summer, but in Queensbridge it will still feel dark."
@1:35, the guy says "But sometimes, you know, as me and my friends grow up and a lot of things happened, sad to say... it feels like there is a dark cloud in this project".
Also, I lived in LeFrak (Queens) and worked in Brooklyn for a few years ago. When I took the F train home, the 21st Street-Queensbridge stop was more often than not wild.

Way back in the day when I was a young guy I worked in a low budget furniture store in Queens and we used to deliver furniture all over Brooklyn and Queens.. The Queens projects in this video is one of the places along with Brownsville, East NY ,South Jamaica,Lefrak and Far Rockaway that we knew we were heading into a danger zone and that anything could go down.. Some things would happen but luckily nothing too crazy.... City projects are basically like prisons without security guards.. Though I know there are some good people in there that mean no harm and are just stuck there due to their financial circumstances..

As a young African American male myself , this is what I'm talkin about . Our communities are really just a series of different families and friends ! So like most families, there will always be disagreements/fights . But once the sun goes down and rises the next day , its all love ; we move on . I will never condone the selling of drugs and violence amongst each other , but at least we survive. At the same time folks should remember these drugs & guns certainly came from somewhere . . and it did a number on our communities (sadly) . I believe that was done on purpose as a way to ruin the Black household !
So when other races come to America with a notion about Black folks that is negative or stereotypical , at least take time to find out who we really are ! Everything happens for a reason man . We come outside and stand together to talk , laugh and watch the younger kids play double Dutch ! One guy asks how another guy's mother is doing after her surgery . We may laugh at one guy for getting rejected by the beautiful girl in the neighborhood ! Another group of fellas are debating over which basketball team has a good chance of going to the finals . . . All of this happening under the sun . It's called culture !! And videos like this offer a brief glimpse into a day in the life of a young Black brother/sister . . Its all Love ! So the next time people attempt to point and assume these brothas are up to no good , just know that they're out here trying to survive like you ! Have a blessed day 🙏🏽 .

You’re not an African American. Black folks were against that term but Jesse and em decided that you needed a label so that you’d never feel 100% American. #KnowYourHistory

"Our communities are really a series of different families and friends." Aka Tribes/Clans.
I've always said the USA is a country of different Ethnic Tribes/Clans. That's why the USA seems dysfunctional at times. Nationalism is what unites these ethnic tribes for a brief moment, but that's what I think. I could be completely wrong.
