Best photography teacher ever! Your video stands out because you actually took the time to put all of the relevant information together and complied them into a 6 minutes video. I wonder if your tips work for a ZS60 though. Please help. Thank you.
I haven't used your specific camera, bud if it shoots 4K Photo and Video then the short answer is YES. But the settings may be in different spots. You could just flip through your camera manual and look up 4K PHOTO and you may find the answers to how to set it up. If you have any specific questions, let me know.
Great insight Marlene, thank for taking time to clarify. I've bought a LX100 for underwater photography with the intent of capturing frames from videos but I was struggling to understand what this fuss was about. Both the manual and the marketing messaging are misleading, now I realize 4K photo is just 4K video with shutter priority, something available in many camcorders, and yes the freedom to select aspect ratio. My reason for using video frames instead of burst is that by doing freediving I only have a handful of seconds in front of the subject, which could be moving or not always in focus or showing me the tail. Even with 30 fps there are situations where there are only a few good frames to choose from. Thanks again and keep doing the good work :-)
I was thinking the same thing. I was at the park the park with my Nikon D3200 and this 4K mode would have been awesome. I missed a lot of shots because the focus system is weak.

Marlene, 4k photo mode will only focus when you press shutter button first time. If I use 4k video mode say at 1/1000 for sports I can refocus any time during 20 second shot. What is your thought on this. thanks bob
Hmm, I've never had a problem with focus, but I only shoot a couple of seconds of 4K photos, plus I use a wide angle lens and that inherently has good dof - and as a result things stay in focus. 20 seconds is far more than I'd shoot in 4K photo mode. What have your tests told you? What focus mode are you using?
Any Lumix Camera that has 4K Photo will work for you. Check out the Lumix GX9. It's small. Lumix has other Point and shoot too. Also look at the LX100M2.
Do you have facebook or other where I can see some of your photos? I'm deciding on a new camera. I'm really leaning toward a Fuji because I've always loved what it does in black and white. But I like video from Panasonic more. So I'm trying to decide.
+acx1n9s I have a section on my website for Lumix Lovers. One of the blogposts has a bunch of skateboard photos, and I'm also on Instagram as @imagemaven. www.imagemaven.com
If you choose a slow shutter speed, you can't capture images any faster than whatever that shutter speed is when in burst mode. Burst mode is better for faster shutter speeds. I typically use 1/1000s for sports when I'm outdoors if I want to freeze the motion.
I have a question about when using 4K photo program Post Focus. If I set the speed at lets say 160 and the camera starts showing the green focusing squares throughout the screen. How still must I told the camera? Does the camera expose the shot at 160 and I can move the camera? Thanks, David
Not sure I understand your first question. But the camera takes one photo and you choose the frame you want after. David have you watched my video on Post Focus? That should help answer your questions. th-cam.com/video/vvRbWlDHdM0/w-d-xo.html It will answer
Hi! I was wondering for the 4k photo mode on g7, it's an 8 mp. would a 4k photo in 8mp be better than a normal 20mp photo? I'm trying to decide between this and the a51000
That depends on the goal of the photos. 20MP is a bigger file, but if you're trying to capture nearly impossible action photos, then 8MP 4k files might be what you need.
the 4k photo mode 1:1 ratio gives 2880x2880 at 30 fps but can we do instead 3456x3456 at a lower frame rate 24-30 fps (is there a hacked firmware that let you do that) ?
The FZ 2500 had a C4K mode - The end JPEG is 9mg in 4k photo or 4k video (image size 4096x2160) Image is a little better then 4k - I shoot weddings 4k video edit FCP mark 50 or 60 images to export out as jpegs Plus I make a 20 min video. Works out great for me. bob
If you have specific reasons for shooting the 4K PHOTO formats, you do get a video file as a result, so yes it's possible. But if you want to do that for a lot of footage, just shoot in native 4K mode and edit those video clips.
No, 4K video defaults to 16:9 aspect ratio. You'll have to change the aspect ratio in editing. That's what I do to get square videos. I have some thoughts on that here: th-cam.com/video/hSkTss-RQv4/w-d-xo.html
sorry Marlene it very late! Could you post a good setting tor the lumix gx80/85 to take a low light pic where the picture is eliminated by the stars and moon? Thanks Also my Mac cannot seem to process 4K. What would you recommend for action shots as a program please ?
I don't shoot moon photos. I'd google that one. But I think the going method is to start at 1/250 second. As for Action shots, it depends on how fast the action is. For skateboarding I use Shutter priority - S on the Lumix mode dial - and set it to 1/1000 second. If I get blur I increase the speed to 1/2000 or higher. You can use Auto ISO or set that manually. Read my blog post (with video) for more about that. www.imagemaven.com/auto-iso/
Start at 1/1000 second in shutter priority. If you can't freeze the action to to 1/2000. If it's a really sunny day, set 200 iSO. Cloudy 400 ISO. And if nothing is working use iA mode. Your Lumix will take care of you!
@@ImageMaven no problem! I was wondering if you could answer something. I tried the 4k photo mode today. Using the movie mode , wether i have 4k photo turned off or turned on, it looks like I am able to save stills anyway. I was wondering if you know why, and if I should just let it turned on. My first tought was that I may not be able to use the video file when 4k photo is on, but it also seems like the video file is the same with 4k photo turned on or not. The only thing I saw , was that turning 4k photo will gray out the other video res/framerate options. My question is, at this point, when im planning to shoot and film 4k, will it change anything to leave 4k photo on. If it doesnt change a thing ill just leave it on all the time for these situations where you could want to keep both a video and stills. (sry for the long text :P)
What's the specific situation you're talking about? Most people don't use 4K burst modes to capture action. So if your action is in lower light then you still need to freeze that action and adjust your exposure accordingly.
+acx1n9s The opposite. I feel liberated. I take many more photos and videos than I ever have and they turn out better because of the features and ease of use of Lumix cameras.

No, 4K video defaults to 16:9 aspect ratio. You'll have to change the aspect ratio in editing. That's what I do to get square videos. I have some thoughts on that here: th-cam.com/video/hSkTss-RQv4/w-d-xo.html
i just mess with the lumix g 7 and i manage to shot video and audio 4k 4:3,
go to 4k burst(start/stop) and in picture settings 4:3
Yes that's correct. You can shoot the 4K "Photo" modes in any aspect ratio, but not in full 4K Video only mode.
still,time limit is the same
Great to hear it! Thanks for checking it all out and letting me know.
I am using a gx85 and need to take action marine animal shots! Am just so confused
What's your question?
sorry Marlene it very late!
Thanks for your advice Marlene. Actions shots of wild dolphins playing and jumping out of the water etc .
Start at 1/1000 second in shutter priority. If you can't freeze the action to to 1/2000. If it's a really sunny day, set 200 iSO. Cloudy 400 ISO. And if nothing is working use iA mode. Your Lumix will take care of you!
this is cropped 4k , native 4k is 4096 wide.
Thanks for letting me know, Jay.
(sry for the long text :P)

what if, in a low light situation?
What's the specific situation you're talking about? Most people don't use 4K burst modes to capture action. So if your action is in lower light then you still need to freeze that action and adjust your exposure accordingly.
What is the max resolution in youtube for honor 8c?
Sorry I don't understand your question. I would check with TH-cam. What I know right now is that it accepts and plays up to 4K.
Do you ever feel limited because you are using Panasonic for photos?
+acx1n9s The opposite. I feel liberated. I take many more photos and videos than I ever have and they turn out better because of the features and ease of use of Lumix cameras.
Excellent teacher , clear concise , information I have been trying to find , thank you
Great to hear this! Thank you for letting me know! :)
