    If you have factory-installed driver assistance systems in a modern vehcile, you do want to cut the brake light wire and install a Diode. This will prevent the Tow-Pro or anything else on the trailer feeding-back into the car. You can make your own diode, or use the RedArc Encapsulated Protection Device.

    latest versions don't use an ethernet cable and only come with a 1m cable, if you need a longer one you need to order it from redarc.

    With this set up you have here, i.e. Tow Pro unit in the back. Do you still need the tow pro kit, or just the ethernet cable? I have a Landcruiser 200 series.

      You still need the control knob at the front somewhere, but all the ugly stuff is hidden at the back

    Hi mate l bought my self a tow pro Elite for my 91 model Mitsubishi Pajero to tow my boat trailer the connections l have done black wire to positive battery terminal white wire to negative battery terminal the red wire l joined with the brake lights wire which is the red wire closest to the socket for some reason there was no blue wire coming in to the socket so number 5 socket was empty so I connected the blue wire coming from the tow pro in to the number 5 socket so all I’m getting is a blue light on my control after pushing it to times and the blue light disappears l will be great fall if you can help me thanks Kemal

    Good video, but there are better methods for joining the wires to maintain the insulation...

    Just did the block of wood with a hammer and it snapped both the locking tabs off. Cheers.
    Next time I will use a tiny screwdriver to unlock the tabs.

    It's a pity the TowPro Elite V3 no longer uses Ethernet plugs.......:-(

    They have changed the data cable to a useless cable now so you cant do this install (V3). It all has to be in the cab and is a pain.

      Oh really, that sucks!

      You can order longer cables - up to 6m

    • @tombobtail7706
      @tombobtail7706 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@neiltube8004 Hardly what you want to do after just ordering a kit and finding the cable too short to use in most places. To be honest the unit isn't that great, Ive used it now and the brakes seem to either lock up or do nothing.

    • @neiltube8004
      @neiltube8004 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tombobtail7706 who installed it ? If you are getting full voltage with the dial turned down something is wrong .
      Mine works just the same as my tekonsha so far.

    • @tombobtail7706
      @tombobtail7706 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@neiltube8004 I installed it, they are drum brakes so they don't do anything up until the point that the unit locks them. I just think that the whole exercise of having a progressive braking unit on drum brakes is pointless. I guess it does have its benefits though. My main problem is that I bought it based on an image showing a data cable which wasn't updated. So I ended up with this crappy install in the front. I could have bought a $20 unit that went there to tick legal boxes.

    Nice idea with the ethernet cable. that will make it a lot easier for me. :)

  • @reggi34dr
    @reggi34dr 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    With respect to the ethernet cable - you don't happen to remember if it was a 'straight through' cable or a 'twisted pair' cable? Great helpful vid btw.

    • @DASHOffRoad
      @DASHOffRoad  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It wasn’t a crossover if that’s what you were asking. Cheers

    Do you think it possible to run it off my dual battery in the back of my ranger?

    • @DASHOffRoad
      @DASHOffRoad  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      keithy0000 should be ok. Mines running off my duel battery from under the bonnet. Just remember if it goes flat from running your fridge or something, you’ll hav no brakes. If youve got a smart solonoid connecting your duel battery to the start battery you’ll be fine as they are all connected when the engine is running

    Gyroscope 😂 mounting in the back?? Resistance and voltage drop on the input circuit is most important.. your right don’t need to be an Auto Electrician.. but to get it done correctly don’t DIY safety features for towing! 🤦‍♂️
