I've been listening to 100s of videos of the top, say, 20 synths for a few years. Hands down, this is the best sounding hardware synth available. Period. It is the perfect blend of precision and warmth.
Thanks for this. I watched your Argon video and this Cobalt video back to back and it helped me understand what each synth is about, so I can choose which one to buy. Finally I realized that Cobalt is for me.. This wouldn't be possible without your videos. And it worked because you played presets and not third party sounds, which is rare these days. Thanks again.
Very nice sounds! Since VA technology has come so far, I feel that sound quality is of lesser importance than the interface though. The point of having a hardware synth should be tactility and how it inspires creativity!

I was thinking of Argon or Hydra but now knowing that Hydra has a module it’s truly a toss up between which one you want as what. I already have a 8x so a Hydra Module sounds like the best pairing.
@@Jason75913 i personally prefer how sparkly and gritty the argon sounds, but the cobalt has much better low end and pad sounds (the argon's are still solid though)
One may be very disappointed in Korg’s build and especially the keys by comparison to Modal. On the other hand using a Modal 8x to control Korg desktops!! Now that what’s up.
Really tempted to buy one of these - I feel like the 3 octaves on the 8 aren't enough and this video pretty much confirms it for me. What do you think about the possibilities of using this as a controller as well? I don't think it can do keyboard splits although not sure I'm that bothered about it.
Hi Nice démo and very convincing work done by Modal. Some demonstrators say the keybed is even better than the 37keys version which is strange as the specifications are the same (Fatar TP9) is it a feeling you share ?
Like the wording printed under the knobs, why in the hell could they have not charged us an extra $35 for a larger screen!!! This being said, it’s fine and eventually the sound and feel of this beautiful instrument make up for it.

I am a hobbyist and I have a Bass Station ii and a Digitone, so I’m wondering if Peak is overkill or it’s worth the extra 800(ish) dollars for the extra oscillator and the 4 LFO’s, and superior effects? I think cobalt 8 sounds amazing, but I don’t know if I’m missing something the peak has I may need. Again, hobbyist here who wants to make ambient/chillwave music, sometimes indie/lo-fi. Thanks!
I think what's underrated about the x is the economy to the right side of the panel. You can use it as a controller and as a sound module. Because with all these sound modules coming out that are small and that form factor. I don't know why more people are coming out with this kind of setup where you could set something conveniently to the right or left or both. It just makes things more convenient.
I didn't get on the the HS. Great interface and flexible mod matrix but the core sound was just not for me. Very harsh and brittle sounding, you have to really work to get warm sounds. This Cobalt seems geared to more traditional virtual analog which is good or bad depending how you look at it
I’ve been debating this issue with myself. One thing that speaks in the favour of the Minilogue XD is that the interface seems much more tactile. And the sequencer with motion recording.
@@stefanelf7794 Bought the modular version of Cobalt 8 and very happy with it - it has a lot of presets (some 500 or so). The interface is not as intuitive though, I need to learn it yet, and with minilogue it's pretty straightforward. But I also like 8 voices polyphony over 4 in Korg. Overall I think I will be happy with presets in the beginning - they give a lot of out of the box sounds, no need to create from the scratch, which I plan to learn later.

i've heard the keybed is as good as they come at this price range, so would probably make an excellent controller.

Good comparation! Cobalt has more RT controls but les polyphony then Blofeld. Cobalt has 8 Osc per voice, Blo has 3. Try before you buy.

I have both, very different from each other.
They’re very different synths but IMO, the Prologue is one of the greatest synths to come out this century. It’s astonishing.

How do you compare the Cobalt 8 to the Behringer Beepmind 12?
2 completely different synths. One is a super inventive, creative, beautiful sounding VA, and the other is a Behringer synth.

Sounds better to me than Korg Minilogue XD. Just what I've been looking for

Any synth out there can sound better than the Minilogue XD.
I actually like the sounds on my MicrKorg XL+ better. Plus it's about an 1/8 the size.
I've listened to this synth in depth and really it's nothing special. A Novation Mininova is just as good!
Remind Korg KingKorg too much. And KKK was very low synth in sound design. Only possibilities allowed from face. No hard and complex modulations.
But the KKK actually has bass.
