Oh boy.. I make it short. To make the same only bad its not good. Tell me new things. But not the same old story in a bad way, very very bad way. 3 Films with the same story. And one is a copy.
+AvatarCloud I know what it's like to lose a friend too, and in my case it was completely unexpected, which made it much worse. He was literally there one day, and then next....he was gone. All because of a tragic accident with a stolen handgun his friend had found on the ground and was trying to safely unload it, when it went off and shot him in the head. I didn't even know what had happened until I got to school the next day.
The transition from "KHAAAAANNNN!" to the Vengeance narrowly missing the enterprise was beautiful and one of the best shots in the move, in my opinion.
This scene is just so moving, and deep, everything you knew about spock and kirk actually having a close bond and friendship becomes clear so suddenly in this short sad scene. made me cry, I haven't cried at a movie since like fox and the hound, another great story of friendship. I just love spock! we all knew he was tender deep deep down.
Man, I love this scene. Especially when kirk says, "it's what you would've done. It's only logical". And to see spock let loose... Felt like they both were balancing each other like yin and yang! That's friendship...
I never understood why everyone was hating these movies, I did grow up with the original Star Trek movies, I've watched most of the episodes in the tv series (except voyager and deep space nine), in 2009 I thought they could never remake Star Trek, but they did, they are both exceptionally good movies they are both exceptional additions to the Star Trek franchise, and like Nick Hentschel said, they are the ultimate fan fiction
I don't understand why everyone is getting mad over this scene. If you don't like it then its fine. But don't use the excuse that the "old one was better" or anything like that. Its awesome that you are an old trekkies, but a lot of us are not and wants to like this scene without anyone beating on their door. Please everyone just watch it and if you have a good opinion about it share it with us but if you don't I think its better if you keep it to yourself.
here here, honestly, NOT EVERYONE IS BUTTFUCKING 50+ YEARS OLD AND WATCHED THE OLD SERIES RELIGIOUSLY, we didn't all grow up with fanboners over old spock, hell I like both, and I've WATCHED both, I can see good in both TOS and the reboots, I mean honestly...
I can fully see and appreciate why people have a problem with this scene, but I actually liked the flip on the Wrath of Khan stuff and thought the scene was well written and well played out... until the scream that is... only Shatner ever pulled that off
Totally agree with you 100%. I completely sympathize with people having a problem with this compared to Wrath of Khan. I myself have problem with it in that same respect but all the while... I DO think this scene was quite good (especially in comparison to most big-budget extravaganzas that come out these days).
I love that people thought quite a fair bit of the old films sucked, and now that this comes along, with a genuinely moving scene, they think the old ones were masterpieces.
this was also my first Star Trek movie I saw as well, (and for ***** , I've seen "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan", it was awesome though, but I don't want to compare those two movies together)
"This is what you would've done." I really love that line because we KNOW it's true. I really love that this movie knocked Kirk on his prideful ass and he developed a humility in command. honestly the whole idea of him going from un-graduated cadet to captain of the flagship of the federation in the first movie irked the holy hell outta me.
I was actually thinking about that like we know he melded with OG timeline Spock who is to say that in order to help Jim understand better he didn’t show him some memories including his own death. Meaning when he tells Spock that he very well could have meant that literally because he knew in the OG timeline Spock had in fact done it. He wasn’t saying “I know you well my friend” he was saying “I couldn’t watch you die a second time, it was my turn”.
***** Nero turned Vulcan into a black hole and stuck Spock Prime on a nearby planet so he could watch helplessly as it happened. Turned out to be his big mistake after Spock 2 dumped Kirk on the planet after his attempted mutiny.
*REAL friendship-love is a beautiful thing. So also the love of a parent for a child and a child for his/her parents.* deep inside we know that REAL love is ready to make ultimate sacrifices. it is what is most heroic in a human being.
I'm going to get yelled at later but I say it anyway... this is a good scene and people really need to stop comparing to the old. Listen, their were good things in the old movies but their also bad things too. In the first movie near, the end you see Spock and Kirk have started to become friends. But remember the new movie DID NOT BECOME A T.V. SHOW, which people seem to forget. In second one you do see the being but both have different views and emotion on friendship. In scene, you see despite the views the do have that strong friendship. It might have T.V. Show to see it but if one let's go of comparing this scene or the movie to the old one (as well as remembering time travel from the first one does change things a bit) you may see it can be emotional or if your not a cryer a good scene. We can all at least agree it is better than Transformers movie series. I mean I like them (some of them) but this does a better job of bringing back of classic in a new light and style but keeping some of the old. I may not be a full Trekkie but I love t.v. Show, old and new movies to see the light. 😎
Your analysis would only work if this was an original scene. Had it been the writers own idea, the it might have been OK. But its not original. Its not even a re-imagining. Its a shot for shot rip-off of someone elses movie. They even cut and pasted the exact same dialogue. That is not a "new light," thats complete laziness and stupidity. We did not wait all this time for a "new" movie just to get a theft of someone elses.
Here comes the yelling, okay one it's not bad to use the scene from Star trek if it's used right and welll/Second People would have been made if they didn't use it. In the old movie, it was movieabout scafrice. This was more abou friendship and honoringwhat you have now. Some see lazy but I see it giving a different meaning to an old scene that they CAN UE USE AGain if they need to.
TheDisneyLover58 "if used right" It wasnt. "people be mad" What? Why the hell would they be mad? Nothing can compare to the anger this movie got for ripping off the old movie. "more about friendship" No, that was the 1982 movie. That scene involved a 20 year old friendship, not a slapdash scotchtape job of two newbies who just met one movie earlier.
TheDisneyLover58 Its a 'big deal" if the uninformed fans, who dont know about the superior 1982 version, are the ones the movie-makers listen to, and give us a Trek III thats even more shallow and derivative than this one was :/ Dumb choices by fans affect ALL of us. You cant be allowed to like a movie for the wrong reasons
What I like the most about this scene is that most of the crew (Spock and Uhura included) didn't like Kirk when they first met him. How they all are crying for him now only proves that the crew cares for him more than initially believed. Zoë Saldana is pretty hot as Uhura, but that is besides the point
I love love love love this scene. Best scene in the movie. Best scene in arguably ALL the movies. Real. Genuine. Not overdone. Perfection. I cry almost every time.
I will say this. I've been watching Star Trek since I was about 3 or 4 since my parents liked it. I love all the films and all the series except DS9 (lets not go there now). When I first heard they were rebooting it I was dead set against it and then I actaully watched the film and loved it and the same goes for Into Darkness! Brilliant film(s)!
no offense to the old trekkies. but if your going to get so upset, then y are u watching the video in the first place? I like both original and remake and believe they are both unique in their own ways.
As I was watching this movie, I was wondering if they were going to do the epic Khan scream. I just didn't know it would be Spock. This movie was more awesome than I thought. When I saw the first one, I thought it was going to be one of those things where the directors screw up the remake. I was so wrong. XD
The complete silence of music as Spock dashes to engineering truly captures the panic Spock feels. All you hear is his breath and you know that he is terrified. I watched this movie before I watched the wrath of khan and it was truly devastating to me because I had never met the Will
I don't know why but I always get some satisfaction seeing Spock express emotion. I just love seeing him break out of his calm demeanor. I feel these outbursts are some of the film's finest moments, because they're so unexpected. You never know what he will do next. Like how he almost choked kirk to death in the first movie or how he broke Khan's arm (holy shit!) AND almost killed him in the sequel. I wonder what he will do in the third movie.
Kirk "Do you know why I couldn't let you die? Why I went back for you?" Kirk's thoughts 'Ok... just... tell him. Quite pausing you can do it. You're bi-sexual and have been afraid to admit you love him. It's you're last chance to tell him... just say "I love you"!' Spock takes the pause to mean he's supposed to answer "Because you are my friend." Kirk's thoughts 'Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck! FRIENDZONED ON MY DEATHBED! Well... crap... now I can never tell him. I guess the only thing I can do is be as close to him as I can in my last moments.' Spock places his hand against the window as well. Kirk's thoughts 'screw it... I'll say it anyway.' Kirk "I." *dies*
You know what can make this scene even sadder? If you have the soundtrack, listen to "Into Eternity" from the soundtrack of Thor: The Dark World at the moment Spock enters engineering.
It must be incredibly fun for the creators/writers of the new movies to play with the characters and universe, but with the freedom of being able to depart from the original story-line (alternative universe). I thought this scene was genius; a salute to the old movies with a great twist. Quinto is awesome.
Remakes/sequels/reboots are always going to get hit by purists but in this case they are on to something. The problem with the new Star Trek is that it is too much in the shadow of the old that it can not stand on its own without relying on some many references from the past - case in point this whole scene along with the Khan shout. In Wrath, Spock's death had more impact because 1) Kirk&Spock had known each other for many long years; 2) Spock's death came in the midst of victory where Kirk had just defeated his nemesis; and 3) Kirk didn't shout "Khaaann!!" In STID we had a shadow of what occurred in Wrath with role reversal of Kirk saving the ship in a long drawn scene of ridiculous portions (reminded me of the engineering section of Galaxy Quest where Signory Weaver complains how stupid it was that the engineering section would be designed in such a dangerous fashion) and Spock kind of cleverly outsmarting Khan (they got those people out of the torpedoes and armed them them pretty quick being there were 72 of them). Anyway, when Spock yells Khan, it really doesn't make much sense since it was really Admiral Marcus that put the ship in the predicament in the first place and Kirk had volunteered to go in that area. Also Khan hadn't been much of an adversary throughout the film either especially not from Spock's perspective - he saved them from the Klingons and helped them board the Vengeance and then only turned on them. Spock's shout is only there because of Wrath and no other reason.
q_fucking_q, Ronin. As a diehard Star Trek fan, I love this twist on the lore. The fact that they have this shadow of the past is what elevates it, not diminishes it, like you seem to think so. It is a remake, If you don't understand the meaning of a remake, then you are obviously lost on this and will never understand. I pity your scope.
SuperBookMonkey I like this scene until the Khan yell. Until then it's an interesting roll reversal where the original scene serves to strengthen it's intent. The yell just felt like the writers nudging me repeatedly with their collective elbow yelling "GET IT!? GET IT!?" in my ear.
I tell you the truth, if this scene (and movie, really) had not been based on a previous movie, and if Kirk had stayed dead in the end, this scene would have been one of the greatest scenes ever created. The portrayal of radiation poisoning can be forgiven and I don't blame them for not making it as gruesome as it typically is, but the music, the camera angles, the dialogue, and the events that led up to this part made this scene amazing.
I've seen both They both make me cry Both movies tug at my heartstrings, because Kirk and Spock are my OTP, and the raw emotion between them in both renditions of this scene is just heartbreaking =(
I'm going to be honest. I prefer this rebooted version of star trek. now I know some fans of the original is better and there's nothing wrong with liking the original. HOWEVER, I've seen the original and in my opinion I found them to corny (to be fair its just because thats how films where styled back then). To that I simply say would you prefer the EXACTLY THE SAME FILM or just a bit different. That difference was enough to have me watching over and over and really enjoying the world and characters. Again Don't take this as "the old films are shit" that's not what I'm saying.
+rickkmurraygamer To say you prefer this version is fine, but I find these movies so similar to Star Wars and so stripped out of what made Star Trek it's own thing in the first place that it's like... What's the point?
ya know, i think it would have been cool if Khan got away at the end of this so they had to chase after him so save kirk. gives a good lead in for a third movie and a reacquiring villain to have.
OK everyone that says this is stupid is indeed stupid.....they don't discredit any of old movies or rip them off. Because of the events in first movie it inturn made an alternate reality where Kirk's dad dies, Spock's mom dies, Planet Vulcan is destroyed, captain Pike dies instead of having the accident and living with Illusionist aliens healing him with girl in the old show and altering who dies from the core in this fight with Kahn...Kahn wouldn't have come around for a while but due to romulans ship being strong from the future in the first movie they woke Kahn to build better ships to withstand attacks. plus due to events in this timeline they didn't get the five year mission yet....so Spock and Jim met hastily and is still a powerful scene without discrediting anything.....watch the old ones and these because it is well linked together. I say they Did a great job by not rebooting but rather adding the alternate timeline.
They had to rush the relationship because this isn't a TV show. If they went at a more "believable" pace and saved this scene for later movies, we might never even get to see it if it turns out the movies aren't popular enough to get more parts.
The thing with this scene is that Kirk and Spock didn't establish a strong relationship yet, Like Nimoy and Shatner. So this scene doesnt have a strong impact and it blatantly clear they did it to mirror the original scene.
This is the 2nd one, yeah? Well, in the 1st one, they started bonding. This could be years down the line. Who knows how strong their relationship would be.
I know it is not done to compare ID with TWOK but one thing I cannot help but notice: Kirk took the time to look around to confirm his fears by seeing Spock wasn't on the bridge AND to refere the command to someone else. Spock just runs off. (with Spock, that means a lot)
For us older trekkies. This doesn't have any where near the same emotional pull the other one has because of not growing up with these 2 playing this part. But as you watch it you think of the original series AND this scene done in reverse and suddenly this scene is really amazing. Bizarre huh. Now granted I don't like the rewrite they've done at all and I was already getting pissed because of this copycat scene but really it was one of the best parts in the movie.
"copycat" scene… it's called paralleling. When you remake/reboot/prequel/sequel movies you ALWAYS do copycat scenes or music. Star Wars does it and it's brilliant. That's WHY it's emotionally pulling. It brings you to an original scene, and it works especially well when there is a generation gap. My dad (THE original trekkie) bawled his eyes out. At least these movies weren't like the star wars prequels (shitty). It gives me hope for new star wars because Abrams is making it and these star trek movies were fantastic.
I'm going to pretend you didn't mean to come across the way you did an go on about how I'm glad you liked this. It's awesome that people can like the same scene for different reasons and I do hope that Abrams does a good job on Star Wars because the story line for these was terrible, in my opinion, as was the repeat/redo of an already done great story. But if they are like this at least I know someone will enjoy the new Star wars movies, Me, I'm hoping for him to use new untouched ideas within predetermined canon history and create a new story/hero's etc that will be as loved as Lucas's.
I agree that Into Darkness was much better, but the writing was really well done in both. I just give props for the movie as a whole because it's really hard to continue/add on to a franchise that is already this big and loved. Plus, anything that has an "original" or something done significantly earlier is almost always going to be seen as lesser, just because it's not the original. I don't like to compare old to new (although the prequel Star Wars were pretty bad, save for the second half of Revenge of the Sith). I didn't mean to come off as rude the first time but the parallel scenes are done for very specific reasons. (and on the star wars thing, I REALLY want them to do the Thrawn Trilogy, except everyone is too old :( )
I have to disagree. This is absolute garbage. This killed the movie for me. Since when does Spock: 1. Have a girlfriend (Pon Farr anyone?) Remember in TOS when the nurse comes on to him all the time and he ignores her advances? He explains that he only gets the desire to mate during Pon Farr and even then it is a very ritualistic ceremony with strict rules. 2. Openly weep. A tear, sure, a hushed gasp, maybe but openly weeping?! NEVER! Not even if Kirk dies! There were a good couple of times that Spock thought Kirk DID die in TOS and he never even choked up! That, and why would he care so much for Kirk? They don't have the history together that Nemoy and Shatner shared in TOS. They haven't even started their five year mission yet! 3. Seek revenge. Spock is not an emotionally driven being. He is not driven by revenge. This killed Spock's character. We need Spock's perspective to balance out Bones and Kirk. He gives us a rational and somewhat alien perspective on everything that is happening. The last thing you should do is over-humanize him; it destroys the balance between the three main characters. I think Quinto is an amazing actor and he did great with what he was given but this was a terrible decision to make Spock emotional. Even if his human half feels things, he never lets it show outright- no matter how devastating it is.
Upon repeated viewings I really have to say that this scene holds up considerably well. It's even more emotionally effecting than Spock's death in Wrath of Khan even though this scene is essentially a homage to that. I really have no shame a devoted trekkie saying that I'd put the Abram's movies up as being the best of the Star Trek films. Still though, when Spock yells Khan, all seriousness briefly goes away and I can't stop myself from bursting out laughing. Although I think that the humor at the end of the scene is intentional.
Godzilla52 personally I feel that as much as his yelling feels out of place.. personally I think it was meant to feel in character for him.. when I watch this scene over all I can think is someone is about to be hurt.. badly.. and that is what happens is it not?
This scene made me cry BECAUSE i saw Wrath of Khan. I don't get why people hate this scene so much, i love it because Spock finally realizes that Kirk is his friend. It goes back to Old Spock saying "I could not deprive you of the revelation of all you could accomplish together. Of a friendship that would define you both in ways you do not yet realize." He was referring to this moment. That's why I love the Abrams movies.
For those of you who are wondering why Captain Kirk is dead in this movie and not dead in the new one is because he did die in the movie and they used Kahn's blood to bring him back to life. Sorry for the spoiler alert there.
Only Kind of Media I mean your comment on his profile pic. How is that relevant to his comment. Also, the acting in this scene isn't bad at all. If you want to see bad acting, watch Birdemic or The Room or something. The actors in this movie, however, are really trying their hardest; unlike the ones in those two, I might say.
I was actually crying at this scene, but the moment the epic yell from Spock started, I simply could not stop laughing! lol I mean the scene is so emotional and then you're snapped back into goofiness with "KHAAAN!". Was that the filmmakers intention?
Perhaps I'm not a die-hard original fan but I personally love both the new and the old. I think because I watched Spock always be more emotionless in the original is the reason why I cried so hard when I saw another portrayal of him break down.
I think it was a mistake to even try and do this. If they were gonna do it, they should done a better job. In the original, it truly felt like Spock was dying. You could see the way the room was distorted in its radiation, the way Spocks skin was disintegrating, the croaking in his voice and the clumsy way he walked back to the door to see Kirk. He was delirious and because they were both friends for so long, and close to boot, the chemistry between those two was far more meaningful. In this film, I feel that I hardly have seen these two together to get even close to the emotional shock that the first version did. It was too early. The scene itself was too clean just like so many other things in this movie are too clean. It didn't touch me enough really
i think it affected spock as well as kirk in the new movies because of ambassador spock we know ambassador spock had a big part in making them friends considering with kirk he told him that he would always be his friend which made kirk believe in spock more and of course ambassador spock would talk to spock about his friendship with kirk so i don't think it affected spock solely on what their friendship was by that point, but what spock felt that their friendship should have been or could have been and he felt the future that they would have had as friends and brothers was ripped away from him wrongfully, he felt the connection with kirk not by his own whim but by ambassador spock.
This isn't in a hating or dick way but I'm not a Star Trek fan but these new two movies have made me atleast like it and this scene is pretty bad ass between these two as in who saw this coming haha
I've been a huge Star Trek fan since I was a little kid and when I saw this scene in the new movie, I was admittedly shocked. JJ's first foray into Star Trek was masterful but the second was dire, due mainly to lazy writing and poor plot consistency. I enjoyed the movie but I still cannot understand why JJ decided to revise the most powerful and iconic moments from the entire franchise for the sake of cheap 'emotional value'. Unlike the original 'death' scene, which was highly emotive, this version is rather hollow and superficial. As an audience, we ourselves have not even been given the chance to connect with the 'new' characters and as a consequence I cared little for Kirk's 'death' - I was mainly consumed by unease because I felt that JJ had made a huge mistake, which could not only anger Trek fans but possibly endanger the future of the rebooted series. Anyway, live long and prosper! : )
For all his self-proclaimed superiority, Khan made a catastrophic mistake: He pissed off a Vulcan.
Only Kirk could have pissed off a Vulcan and live.
This is the most accurate comment I've ever seen on TH-cam.
That wasn't Khan, not to me. How can an Indian suddenly become a pasty white guy from England. Fuck You JJ Abrams!
McMahonHater A Star Trek comicbook miniseries that came out after the movie that explained how Khan became Caucasian.
+McMahonHater Get over it
+AVoiceOfOpinion93
Two worst things you can do in sci-fi movie upset a Wookiee or upset a Vulcan :-)
I love this movie. I don't care what you all think, I love both this one and the 2009 adaptation of Star Trek
From someone else who is into Dragon Ball, I can say you have good tastes, sir.
Zach Collier Thank you sir
Thunder Goku I don't care that you don't care what I think
And?
Agree. These movies are well made films. Hell the first one has a 95% on RT this one a 87% both have 8.0 on imdb . The public like these movies Trekkies hate them . "Right now I am feeling"....SO MANY FEELS.
He says "Right now I am failing".
I thought this was brilliant. I can understand the true-blue Trekkie point of view but I think it needs to be remembered that the whole idea of rebooting the franchise was to introduce Star Trek to a new generation of viewers, and not necessarily to satisfy the previous one. aksampson68 I had never seen the originals so it was a treat to see it read adapted.
Well said!
If another generation wants to be "introduced" to Trek, they should actually watch the original instead of watching this shameful rip off.
Oh boy.. I make it short. To make the same only bad its not good. Tell me new things. But not the same old story in a bad way, very very bad way. 3 Films with the same story. And one is a copy.
Um...please tell me I'm not the only one who teared up from this scene. Please? I don't think I'm the only one.
+Rach Frisella No worries
I cried in this scene as well since I lost a friend too
But tbh and imo This scene is better than the original.
+AvatarCloud
I know what it's like to lose a friend too, and in my case it was completely unexpected, which made it much worse. He was literally there one day, and then next....he was gone. All because of a tragic accident with a stolen handgun his friend had found on the ground and was trying to safely unload it, when it went off and shot him in the head. I didn't even know what had happened until I got to school the next day.
not only I cried but I wanted Kahn to get his ass kicked soooo bad!!
I did.
I did.
When he says "I'm scared, Spock" I always involuntarily whine in pain :(
The transition from "KHAAAAANNNN!" to the Vengeance narrowly missing the enterprise was beautiful and one of the best shots in the move, in my opinion.
I never really cared much for star trek. But ill admit these actors played their parts so well that i was in tears when they looked at eachother.
Man, I love this scene. Especially when kirk says, "it's what you would've done. It's only logical". And to see spock let loose... Felt like they both were balancing each other like yin and yang! That's friendship...
That's love 💕
Seriously Zach is an incredible actor. There's crying on cue and THEN there's crying on cue while holding it in. That must hurt😢
Here everyone is debating about which yell was better or not. Whereas i see the bigger picture: A VULCAN IS CRYING!!!
*half Vulcan
I love when he says "how's OUR ship?" Not THE ship. Loved this scene the best.
Spock is also half FUCKING HUMAN!!!
I can't be the only one that got goosebumps when he screamed
I got douche chills. Does that count?
one of the best rage screams i've seen
501R4K I threw-up little bit in my mouth. Does that count?
If by "goosebumps" you mean "the giggles," then sure!
I did
It was Khan’s fatal mistake
_he pissed off a Vulcan_
I never understood why everyone was hating these movies, I did grow up with the original Star Trek movies, I've watched most of the episodes in the tv series (except voyager and deep space nine), in 2009 I thought they could never remake Star Trek, but they did, they are both exceptionally good movies they are both exceptional additions to the Star Trek franchise, and like Nick Hentschel said, they are the ultimate fan fiction
Brodie Wilson I love these moves and the originals to
I don't understand why everyone is getting mad over this scene.
This
Geez, Scotty. Give them some privacy. xD
Haha! :0
Front row seat :)
I like the way Spock is so emotional, they way all Vulcans should be. They have that reputation.
I love that people thought quite a fair bit of the old films sucked, and now that this comes along, with a genuinely moving scene, they think the old ones were masterpieces.
This scene always makes me cry no matter how many times I watch it.
Him and Darth Vader should get together and perform a duet.
Spock: KHAN!!!!!!
Vader: NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG that would be ridiculously beautiful.
I freaking balled my eyes out, and this is my first Star Trek movie I ever saw.
I cried my heart out for kirk too.
this was also my first Star Trek movie I saw as well, (and for ***** , I've seen "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan", it was awesome though, but I don't want to compare those two movies together)
It was really emotional.
I'm just agreeing
Sorry. I do agree
Next film: Star Trek III: The Search for Kirk
I don't think that will happen, but in the next Star Trek film, I REALLY hope they don't kill Captain Kirk again or kill Mr. Spock.
***** Hmm
***** No, they don't. In this universe there is no planet Vulcan.
***** Vulcan got exploded, i think. don't exactly remember though, it's been ages since i watched this...
*****
Nero turned Vulcan into a black hole and stuck Spock Prime on a nearby planet so he could watch helplessly as it happened. Turned out to be his big mistake after Spock 2 dumped Kirk on the planet after his attempted mutiny.
"and this.......is what you would have done"
right in the feels
This scene breaks my heart every time! Poor spock... He actually cried! It makes me wanna cry too!
the fact neither said or paraphrased "I am and always shall be your friend" is mind boggling
TheDisneyLover58
"if used right" It wasnt.
But it was but if you don't like it's fine, but i do and shouldn't be huge deal and find a reason tfor each person so there.
TheDisneyLover58
Its a 'big deal" if the uninformed fans, who dont know about the superior 1982 version, are the ones the movie-makers listen to, and give us a Trek III thats even more shallow and derivative than this one was :/
Dumb choices by fans affect ALL of us.
This never fails to make me sob. Even more now that Leonard has passed.
I'll be honest, this is the most I've cried at a movie scene, and I've watched some pretty sad movies…
I'm such a dork…
No shame. Both of these movies each had a scene that made me cry pretty hard.
Kirk's father dying in the first one makes me ball just thinking about it. It's so sad.
WE ARE ALL DORKS AND PROUD OF IT!!! CAN I GET AN AMEN?!?!?
+Aryka Morris AMEN
+Nerdy Turtle I'm right there with you baby
I liked this movie even though it reversed the role with Kirk dying, I liked it because I didn't expect it.
I liked the reversal too. Even though it did made me cry so hard.
I cried so hard! I was like is this how it ends?! haha
Rick Steck Hmm
Rick Steck how can the star trek franchise ripp off itself???????
Rick Steck cry baby.
Watch out, Khan: hell hath no fury like a pissed-off Vulcan!
This scene is what the entire movie was trying to get across, the evolution of the relationship between Kirk and Spock. Well done
As I was watching this movie, I was wondering if they were going to do the epic Khan scream. I just didn't know it would be Spock. This movie was more awesome than I thought. When I saw the first one, I thought it was going to be one of those things where the directors screw up the remake. I was so wrong. XD
One of the most feels and emotional scenes in history...
We all know Kirk comes back at the end, but DAMN IT, this scene is STILL heartbreaking!
The complete silence of music as Spock dashes to engineering truly captures the panic Spock feels. All you hear is his breath and you know that he is terrified. I watched this movie before I watched the wrath of khan and it was truly devastating to me because I had never met the Will
3:53 khaaan my dear boy you done FUCK IT UP
Their friendship is simply beautiful
We all saw the "KHAAAAANNNNN!!!" coming, didn't we?
I love this scene! Very emotional and great acting! I love the new Star Trek movies! The music is incredible! :D
Why I went back for you?"
Kirk's thoughts 'Ok... just... tell him. Quite pausing you can do it. You're bi-sexual and have been afraid to admit you love him. It's you're last chance to tell him... just say "I love you"!'
Spock takes the pause to mean he's supposed to answer "Because you are my friend."
Kirk's thoughts 'Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck! FRIENDZONED ON MY DEATHBED! Well... crap... now I can never tell him. I guess the only thing I can do is be as close to him as I can in my last moments.'
Spock places his hand against the window as well.
Kirk's thoughts 'screw it... I'll say it anyway.'
Kirk "I." *dies*
dao cfa Infinite Cringe
Peak f'king CRINGE.
Yes he is. And Chris Pine is awesome. In my opinion, Kirk's death scene in this is more heartbreaking than Spock's death in The Wrath Of Khan.
Nevertheless, I'm sticking to it.
This movie was genius. The acting, directing and twists. I loved it!!!
Remakes/sequels/reboots are always going to get hit by purists but in this case they are on to something. The problem with the new Star Trek is that it is too much in the shadow of the old that it can not stand on its own without relying on some many references from the past - case in point this whole scene along with the Khan shout.
In Wrath, Spock's death had more impact because 1) Kirk&Spock had known each other for many long years; 2) Spock's death came in the midst of victory where Kirk had just defeated his nemesis; and 3) Kirk didn't shout "Khaaann!!"
In STID we had a shadow of what occurred in Wrath with role reversal of Kirk saving the ship in a long drawn scene of ridiculous portions (reminded me of the engineering section of Galaxy Quest where Signory Weaver complains how stupid it was that the engineering section would be designed in such a dangerous fashion) and Spock kind of cleverly outsmarting Khan (they got those people out of the torpedoes and armed them them pretty quick being there were 72 of them).
Spock's shout is only there because of Wrath and no other reason.
hornymaneee lol! Problem with people like you is that you take movie criticism personally. Grow up
You clearly acknowledge that Khan turns on them in an antagonistic fashion, so I don't see the problem, really.
q_fucking_q, Ronin.
Ronin Dave hahaha it's a movie kid. chill the fuck out. douchebag.
I've seen both
They both make me cry
Both movies tug at my heartstrings, because Kirk and Spock are my OTP, and the raw emotion between them in both renditions of this scene is just heartbreaking =(
I'm going to be honest.
I prefer the reboot too. I feel more connected to the characters.
I felt chills when Spock screamed KHAAAAN!!!Great scene, man and great Trek movie aswell.
This scene always gets me :'(
So good, his rage at Khan for taking Jim his future T'hy'la was just🤏💋
Teared up hardcore watching this and I'm not even a big Star Trek fan. Amazing acting.
Boy, fans sure know how to nitpick.
ya know, i think it would have been cool if Khan got away at the end of this so they had to chase after him so save kirk. gives a good lead in for a third movie and a reacquiring villain to have.
Star trek: the search for Kirk
When I first saw this scene, I was crying so hard. :(
Regardless if you know anything about these movies or not, you have to appreciate some great acting.
Well done!
I say they Did a great job by not rebooting but rather adding the alternate timeline.
family n planet dies doesn't cry Jim dies loses the plot
Jack Shephard Spock watched Kirk die an agonizing death. He didn't--well, he didn't watch his _mother_ die, that is...
"This is what you would've done."
Me: You have fuggin idea.
I love how this scene transitioned from tragic sadness to turnt up........someone is going to catch a beating !!!!
Someone caught those hands fo sho
3:51 to the end - when i saw it in the theater, i felt it was absolutely EARTH-SHATTERING.
Kirk was actually killed by an epileptic seizure because of the lens flares.
This comments section is why Trekkies get a bad reputation. Smdh.
"I'm scared, Spock.."
anybody have a spare heart? Mine shattered into pieces
This actually made me cry. I was sat with my whole family in the cinema sobbing while they all stared at me.
Thanks this remakes I became a fan of Star Trek because I didn't even know this movies existed.
(with Spock, that means a lot)
best scene in a movie for a long time thnk u for postin this
This was great. As a true Trekkie, this scene was just as powerful as the original one in the prime timeline when it was Spock who died this way.
I think Spock was trying to say "CAAAN YOU STOP BUBBLING, UHURA!", but they cut him off. Crap directing.
+Rob Fraser LOL XD Nice try, but he actually angrily screamed, *"KHAAAAAAAAAAAAN!"* And believe me, I know sarcasm.
+Ryan Kelly Ryan Kelly is clearly Vulcan and therefore can not embrace sarcasm.
+siberwolf33 I do embrace sarcasm, even though I try to be practical.
But if they are like this at least I know someone will enjoy the new Star wars movies, Me, I'm hoping for him to use new untouched ideas within predetermined canon history and create a new story/hero's etc that will be as loved as Lucas's.
pendragonshall I liked the storyline of "Into Darkness," the first Abrams Star Trek-not so much.
Since when does Spock:
I admit it when he asked for help not to feel scared I actually lost a tear
god, I swear I'm hearing the one who recorded crying
For those of you who are wondering why Captain Kirk is dead in this movie and not dead in the new one is because he did die in the movie and they used Kahn's blood to bring him back to life. Sorry for the spoiler alert there.
obviously
Why am I watching this you ask? I enjoy pain.
Elizabeth Skene - dark humour is the best humour I always say.
When I saw this scene for the first time, I could not stop crying.
This right here is some of the best acting I have ever seen.
Micah Snyder Says the guy who's profile picture is a mirror selfie from an iPad.
+Only Kind of Media That's not really relevant
Joldsaway The acting isn't good.
Joldsaway Nah, The Room is a masterpiece.
I was actually crying at this scene, but the moment the epic yell from Spock started, I simply could not stop laughing! lol
I mean the scene is so emotional and then you're snapped back into goofiness with "KHAAAN!". Was that the filmmakers intention?
I cried too.
Homage to Wrath of Khan.
Brian Smith Yep. It made me burst into tears
Brian Smith "Homage"... The whole movie is a rip-off, and of a much better film.
Book of Sam
Well if John Harrison wasn't "Khan", it wouldn't be a rip off.
I like that one spock yell khan
Carlos Bisono Epic.
R.I.P Zachary Quinto.
Are you kidding me?
Damn nigga, I can't believe he's gone....
I think you got that wrong....
Wrong Spock, dumbass
*Leonard Nimoy
Perhaps I'm not a die-hard original fan but I personally love both the new and the old. I think because I watched Spock always be more emotionless in the original is the reason why I cried so hard when I saw another portrayal of him break down.
I’ve always enjoyed Star Trek and Star Wars. I never ventured out to other sci-fi movies or shows. These 2 gems just hit differently ya know.
It didn't touch me enough really
i think it affected spock as well as kirk in the new movies because of ambassador spock
we know ambassador spock had a big part in making them friends considering
with kirk he told him that he would always be his friend which made kirk believe in spock more
and of course ambassador spock would talk to spock about his friendship with kirk
so i don't think it affected spock solely on what their friendship was by that point, but what spock felt that their friendship should have been or could have been and he felt the future that they would have had as friends and brothers was ripped away from him wrongfully, he felt the connection with kirk not by his own whim but by ambassador spock.
lol, 2 movies and still not enough to connect with kirk?
JJ Abrams is a self-aggrandizing hack who marvels at his own [so-called] intelligence and cleverness.
Me and my sister Siobhan like this video very much thank you for putting it on youtube!
made me cry. seen every episode and every movie of star trek twice, including the cartoon.
