This is a famous photo of two swallows - the photograph series was used in science publication about one bird taking care of the dying partner. The healthy bird was feeding and tending to the hurt partner on the sidewalk until the partner passed away. Its a documentation about highly social and intelectually complex behavior in animals. The healthy bird tried to rouse its dead partner after it passed away and sat beside them for quite a while.

Reminds me of the cockatiels (one male, one female) I had as a kid. Both were abused by prior owners, but we took them and had them for many years. One day I came home from school and sat on the couch, only to notice the strangest tweets from the cage. I never heard either of them tweet like that before. When I walked over, the female was at the bottom of the cage, one foot on top of the now dead male. She was singing over his dead body and tried to nip at me when I took his body away. The female lived years longer. She is now long gone as well but I still think about the way she sang that day.

Makes you think and feel. I try to look at it this way (based on Shakespeare): "its better to have (lived), loved and lost than to have never (lived and) loved at all" … To be here, to be able to witness this living universe is for most people just a casualness. But if you think hard about it, it's just plain mind-boggling we are here at all. Even if a live ends in tragedy - that it ended means, it had the experience of existence in the first place.
This is not to take aways the trauma and sadness in your life/s. It's more directed to people who are entitled to having more, having it all at great cost for others. Let us try to make our respective lives (as brief as some may be) slightly less tragic, less painful to live through.

Alive yet so confused through words we cannot understand. Dead yet powerful enough , emotion deeper to subject another , bare, helpless soul enough pain for the world to see , to recognize how we are alike, more and more each day. We grow silent in even our most tragic of painful emotion. Like the dead in so many ways but alive enough to cast it out upon others. What have we crated? What will be? Is there an in-between? A balance of hope, a ray of light, damn it how do we come back from the dead to die again over and over inside our heads. Loss, ....,enough said.

This photo... all these feelings someone can have just by looking at it.
Imagine how many things someone can have with that combination.
Things that are incapable of being described.
Things that are so much but so little at the same time.
    Deeply and sincerely,

Music to the soul: I realize there are times when just toning out the world, stops the pain for few minutes, hours…if you just close your eyes. But then it all comes flooding back, this is what this piece does, this is what this image of two birds and the the realities of life is …that no matter how much you try to block it all out, you still have to face life for what is.

The photo-music combination is just fantastic. Max Richter is very German in that he excels in melancholy. On a personal note, I recently took care of a bird that had fallen out of the nest, only to see it die, in my hand, having been ravished by a magpie. It was a very sad moment, and this music gave the perfect score for it, if this doesn't sound too cynical. In the end, we have to overcome. Maybe that's one of my few criticisms of Richter: He wallows very much in his pain. At some point, we have to leave it all behind us. Or do we?

As someone of Persian origin, I really like German art. You have very valuable artists. It has a universal nature. In general, northern Europeans have a more melancholic nature, in terms of art, perhaps a matter of geography.

You never truly realize how much a person truly matters to you until they leave you. All animals die eventually and even humans too, if the bird were smart it would’ve left it’s dead partner to avoid its own death but that day the bird kept love above survival. Is that logical is that smart..? no. But is it beautiful ? Yes, it is.
