That whole concert is absolute fire, that whole era has them in their prime and dishing it out and showing everyone how it is done. Brilliant band even now, they maybe ancient but can still kick butt. If you have not already, try Can't You Here Me Knocking or Midnight Rambler, killer and epic tracks, which you will get lost in. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶

“All down the line” from the same concert is the Rolling Stones at their absolute best.

From the start of the American tour in the fall of 1969 to the end of the European tour in 1973, The Rolling Stones truly were The Greatest Rock & Roll Band in the World. And, no one has come close since in terms of pure rock & roll swagger.

Get Yer Ya Ya's Out is a great live album in the Mick Taylor era. Just pristine musicianship with Keith, Mick T., Bill and Charlie and Jagger having dynamics in his vocals in those recordings.

From 1981 to 2019, in the fifteen times I have seen the Stones Jumpin Jack Flash has always been part of a 4 song tempo and energy tsunami. Not always the same 4, but in the many eras and styles in which they have played you just knew JJF was going to be the anchor to something memorable and lasting. Unreal. Thank you for doing this one!

I wish I had a 25% of Mick's energy he had in this show. Love the Stones. :)

I'm so glad you're taking us through these classic Stones numbers, and now tasting the power of their live performances. Don't stop! There's a wealth of great material out there, and you're helping to bring it to a new audience who deserve to hear it!

This song is awesome live. They were playing this one towards the end of the show, I believe, and the band tended to be going pretty fast by then. Jagger had to almost bark the words out to keep up with them.
If you ever checkout Street Fighting Man live, make sure to listen to the Brussels Affair version. The band is going at lighting speed and Jagger barely gets the words out, but the song turns really psychedelic with the help of Billy Preston. That Brussels Affair gig is the best live recording of any artist I’ve ever heard.

I’m from Fort Worth, and we’ve been lucky enough to have legendary Stones shows here. Half of this movie was filmed here and all of ‘Some Girls’ Live In Texas ‘78. Keith calls the riff in Jumping Jack Flash “primal; elemental”…. “a weird mixture of … rock and roll and …echo of very, very ancient music… much older than I am…”

Mick Taylor, Eric Clapton and Peter Green (founder of Fleetwood Mac) all came from John Mayalls Blues Breakers. Checkout the Beano album.

Yeah, that's a wonderful snapshot love a moment in history. But as far as these English bands that have transformed Blues into really interesting other related kinds of music, I believe that Ten Years After featuring Alvin Lee definitely belongs in that category as well. Incredible stuff.

If you want to hear peak live Rolling Stones, go to the 1969 tour and listen to Midnight Rambler from the "Get your Ya-Ya's Out" album. It was Mick Taylors first tour with the Stones and shows Jagger under much better control then this perfunctory version of "Jumpin Jack Flash". One of the best live rock songs ever.

I saw the Stones for the first time during this 72 tour. It was freaking amazing.

  • @billvegas8146

When this movie of the '72 tour was released it 'toured' the country in one of the first surround sound systems in theaters. They used regular rock 'n roll band amps and speakers. You hardly ever see the audience because the people in the movie theater were supposed to be the audience. It was as close to seeing the Stones live as you could get without going to an actual show. They sold the movie as a reserved seat 'concert.'

If you haven’t seen the whole movie, you should make time to do so. It is sooooo good. I found it interesting to watch Mick tell Keith when to stop jamming- he looks over and scratches his head🤭 it happens several times and I wonder if that’s still the signal.

The Stones in 78, the Some Girls tour was their peak. Jagger seemed more comfortable and more entertaining. All Down the line, Tumbling Dice, Jumping Jack Flash is epic. 81 Tattoo You tour was great as well.

This was my favorite period of the Stones. As you said the band had a lot of raw power. Today it sounds processed. Mick Taylor had such a great sound as well. Love this. I saw them twice back then and it was special.

Very nice analysis Syed, and I especially appreciate your reaction to Keith's propulsive guitar. He's simply the greatest rhythm guitarist in rock and roll history.
The Stones had a streak of 5 albums that's considered one of the greatest ever, and many like myself think it's THE greatest. I encourage you to experience these albums as a whole in chronological order because it's an awesome experience.
    The albums are:
    •BEGGARS BANQUET (1968)
Brian Jones final full album, and the beginning of the Stones full bloom as a band. Very acoustic and driven by Keith's absorption of American roots country and blues.
    •LET IT BLEED (1969)
Further growth from the previous album and driven by Keith's guitars, which became the heart of their sound. A dark work of art at the end of the 60s. Brian Jones appears fairly unnoticeably on 2 songs, and Mick Taylor plays on 2 others that were recorded near the end of the album's sessions. Taylor's first song with the Stones was the standalone single, "Honky Tonk Women".
GET YER YA YA'S OUT (1970)
A live concert from the 1969 American Tour. Raw and inspired, and this Mick Taylor kid is great!
    •STICKY FINGERS (1971)
If you wanted to turn someone on to the Stones, this is imo, the Stones most quintessential album. It's a masterpiece, with some of their most rocking and some of their most beautiful music ever. Mick Taylor shines in his first full studio album in the band.
    •EXILE ON MAIN ST. (1972)
This double album is the greatest rock and roll album of all time in the eyes of many, including myself. Recorded in Keith's 3 story basement in his mansion in the south of France while the Stones were tax exiles from their home country. The music is stunning; some of the band's greatest ever rockers, plus country, blues and gospel touches throughout. There's even a Richards/Jagger gospel song!
People sometimes miss the point about this era. This era was the peak of the Stones career because Keith and Mick peaked as song writers during this period and the band fully matured into the iconic Stones sound, powered by Richards and fronted by Jagger at the peak of their powers. It would still have been their career peak without Mick Taylor. What Taylor's beautiful, fluid playing brought to the band made these songs even better. He brought his own magic to the band.
I hope you'll consider my suggestion, Syed. Keep up the keen insight you're providing your viewers.
