she was so chilling in this show. her character was somewhat sympathetic in the end. this showed no matter how monstrous she was, she still had monsters she had to answer to, because she was scared out of her mind of what they would do to her.
This character and this particular scene changed everything for me. I was in my late teens and honest to God hadn’t cared much for the style of storytelling that TV series offered, nor did I care about complex villains with tragic backstories. But Jackie as James, sacrificing herself in this scene, is what launched my psyche into its quest for compelling female villains* that continues to this day. (*Extra points for being sapphic.)
