    Transcription for the solo piano from Ferdinand David / Leopold Charlier version: C.H. Lee (2016)
    Music notation & playback: MuseScore 2.0.2
    Soundfont: Salamander Grand Piano v3
    Individual note velocity adjusted for a more livelike playback

    Notes on this transcription:
    I made a note to myself to make a transcription for this piece when I first heard it a long time ago. However, a lack of commitment and resources meant that this project never got started until now. My hopes for this project are twofold... to add to the solo pianist's repertoire and to demonstrate that this piece can sound just as beautiful, albeit a little different, on the keyboard.
    As much as possible, I have tried to preserve all the voices in the Ferdinand/Charlier scores while ensuring that the piece is playable. As a result, the required technical skill is inevitably high. However, I assure the intermediate level pianist that the transcription is definitely playable with a little investment in time and effort. The advanced pianist will find it easier for sure.
    I have opted to play back on MuseScore because I am certain that the amount of time required of me to make a decent recording on a real piano for a piece this long would mean that this transcription may never be published. I have chosen the Salamander Grand Piano soundfont because it is the best option available for MuseScore. I have adjusted the velocities for every single note in order to get better dynamics for a more lifelike playback.

    This music sheet reminds me of how crazy music compositions can become, and the funny thing is, this isn't even the tip as to what you can do with music pieces. This is truly wonderful. Thank you for uploading this.

      That’s unfortunate and probably a byproduct of the mechanical performance. This is a baroque era piece, often performed more romantic, so it should have a lot of soul.

    interestingly with almost exact notes, piano version sounds so different. The violin version is way more emotional, dramatic, richer in sound subtlety and colour. The piano reproduction of this song seems to have compressed the dimensions of the violin sound. I guess in order to take advantage of the power of piano, much of the original texture, maybe even melody lines and polyphonic materials needs to be re-written and re-constructed.

      It’s digital so of course it sounds poor.

    • @chlee4256
      @chlee4256  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with both comments. I'm sure a performance on a real piano would sound way better than a digital playback. However, a violin piece played on a piano would never sound the same and vice versa. There's so much that the violin can do that the piano cannot, e.g. vibrato, slides. Even the monumental Bach Chaccone written for the solo violin, when transcribed by Brahms for the left hand piano solo, does not sound quite the same on the piano. But what the piano lacks, it more than makes up for in its ability to play multiple voices. I do need to say, though, that the violin remains my favorite instrument.

    • @GoogleUser-ee8ro
      @GoogleUser-ee8ro 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, Brahms' transcription is too 'loyal' which is big no-no for cross-instrumental adventure. but his original purpose is i believe to write an etude to train his left-hand rather than to create a concert master piece, for the latter we have Busoni and Siloti.

      Guys check up the piano arrangement by Olga Georgievskaya. It deserves more attention.

    Should there be an E natural instead of E flat at 4:04?

    • @siwonchang3818
      @siwonchang3818 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jackie Kwan I think it is. I looked at the sheet music for the original piano accompaniment and it has a E natural. I must admit it does sound a bit awkward, but I think it sounds better with the E natural than the E flat
