I doubt it. They carry food in their beaks and don't have crops. He'll carry food back for chicks but not for her - but there may be exceptions to that. I was amazed when Pauly gave Mrs M a grasshopper he'd caught. That may have been a once-in-a-lifetime moment for Pauly 😁
@@mybackyard36On magpie cam the male fed the female occasionally and when the food offering was just too big for the chicks to handle he gave it to her.
At least you don't have the light to be concerned about. There are days when the checklist doesn't play nice and you just have to wing what you get. I hope she turned up. Cheers Murray 👍😀🇦🇺
99 problems but the light ain't one 👍👍 Nope, not this afternoon. She came yesterday though, and maybe it's increased hunger but she seemed to be less shy. Hopefully it'll stick. I saw him get swooped by the Kooka yesterday - pretty sure there was no contact. The locals are fractious. And the plovers seem very irritable - I think their chicks have hatched. I hope they do better this year, they've lost a lot the last two years. Cheers John 👍😁👍
@@mybackyard36 The plovers alarm calls will heighten the magpies alertness. Every time the plovers go off the magpies respond to it. That kooka is really asking for it. But I doubt Mr Magpie will risk injuries when he has chicks to care for. For now it's push me, shove you. Oh yeah says who!
That's a good word for it! I think he's been carb-loading for his upcoming collection duties for the fledglings. He's going to have to collect a lot of food, spend a lot of energy and probably not eat as much as he'd like And chase away raptors and other predators. He's looking as good as I've ever seen him at the moment.
@@mybackyard36 think you’re right. And he’s doing a great job of it. Saw a local pigeon front on today… definite dent in the chest feathers from egg sitting. A challenge for you: can you encourage lady Magpie to display hers?😃
She must be sitting on the nest quite a bit, hope he took her some treats 😂
