- The Platinum Blonde is one of the classics that will always be a benchmark for any fly tyer. It is such a simple pattern to tie, yet it has a perfect profile and it flat out catches fish.
Material List:
Hook: Any Streamer Hook (Tyer's Choice)
Tail: White Bucktail
Body: Silver Mylar Tinsel
Rib: Brassie Silver Wire
Overwing: White Bucktail
Thread: UTC 140 (Black)
Growing up with books from Joe Brooks,Lee Wulf,Trey Combs & others, they'd be proud to see your layed back easy going style & tying a classic fly,I use holographic tinsel & add eyes to it,still catches fish, tight lines & bent rods
Thank you for the kind words David, I really appreciate it! I like the idea of holographic tinsel, that would add another dimension of flash to the body. Tight Lines!
Cheers Josh 👍
Cheers
I think Mr. Brooks would be proud of your fine job of tying his platinum blonde. The guy was a true Pioneer in fly fishing and fly tying.
Thanks Mike, I appreciate that and yes he certainly was. He took the sport to a new level.
When I was in Jr High in late 50's I read his book about three times. Bought a copy I still read. He got me started with a H& Ifrom Utica NYI 9' D wgt fly rod with very sloppy action I still have that ,too, but redone.. I'm now 78 and still wade streams ,have a tube and yak. On the ducktail, I try to build a 60 degree angle where the mylar ends that helps to cock the second application up a bit
Catastrophe averted!! Nice assist from the Production Manager!!
😂
Haha, I damn near stabbed myself in the eye with my scissors because I always keep them on my hand...that could have been ugly!
Grate looking fly sir thank you for your time... It looks like a black ghost one of my favorite flys
Thanks Charles, ya that is a great pattern!
