Depends on the route you take - if you go through the security zone you'll find a surviving member of the security team, who'll unlock a supply cache for you. I didn't take that route in the video though - I chose to go through the civilian sector because that allows access to the secret Team 17 office with developer bios 🙂 Oh and I never even noticed the security bots had ranged attacks! I was just trying to survive and get the hell out of the level as quickly as possible. Alien Breed II had yellow aliens that threw fireballs, which is what I was thinking of when I said there were no ranged enemies.
This video is a conflict for me; joy that I discovered a game I didn't know existed, sadness that I haven't been playing it for the last 30 years! Alien Breed is one of my top Amiga games.
As a child I was too scared too play this game xD But seeing this back, makes me really want to play this game. Looks fun but the game has still this scary vibe. Awesome playthrough btw !
Had this with alien3 on super nintendo, at one point just sitting in a corner to scared to move and jumped on by a face hugger. Now looking back quite laughable but it is how it is.
This brings back fantastic memories! I remember having my Amiga 1200 and a CD ROM drive that plugged into the PMCICA slot. I think that's what it was called. Anyway the FMV intro blew me away back then. I never actually finished it so this will be fun to watch. 😁
Going through Main Tower level 2?... That's rough. I've read your review, it's a good summary of what the game's like. Additionally, it points out some stuff I usually take for granted, or don't think about at all.
LOL the game devs acting in the FMV is hilarious...proper Team 17 northern accents! When I Was in uni doing games programming, we had to do group presentations which Team 17 staff came to judge. I'm sure I recognise the commander guy
Oh I've heard of this one! Well at least the original "Alien Breed" (thanks partly to a relaxing Amiga music compilation I love to listen to at night). The intro could've used a bit of balancing as I understood the plea from the colony crystal clear and then the sudden echoing of the commander's voice was a bit hard to discern. also, I Love the 90s cheese! As for the game itself, I do like how moody and atmospheric the series seems to be, it pays homage to the movie franchise it's aping very well IMO. The electronic noise that increases in intensity is nice and unsettling.
Great longplay! I really like how you play through the whole game. Your retrospective is also nice to read! So next longplay please :-) Do you use emulator or original hardware?
heh, and the final boss is ... mutated Mick Jagger/Alien Mick Jagger. Honestly the mouth of the alien reminds me of the Mick Jagger cartoon mouth that became the logo of the Rolling Stones.
The CG in the intro looks like an early episode of Babylon 5... I guess they probably used similar hardware/software in this production since early B5 famously made use of Amiga workstations.
I started and tried having fun with all the 2D AlienBreed games about 100 times alltogether over the Amiga years, no exaggeration. But I never managed to like these games. They felt boring and annoying. I think the main reason is, that my motivation was to kill ALL aliens, but not to save ammo, to ignore most aliens and having to leave an endless amount of unlimited respawns behind. For luck, the 3D games didn't have that issue :)
The most annoying thing I find are the endlessly respawning aliens. That's why I never played the AB games far. This longplay seems to use trainers to as health and ammo are never dropping, else he would be burning through ammo quickly (and gotten killed by the mines at the crash site).
That intro cutscen would be pretty cool if they'd bought a decent microphone - it's legit impossible to understand most of the dialogue (not that we're missing much, but it feels really unprofessional for an FMV that's otherwise well-produced)
Pure horror is the way the dead people lay in the infirmary.. what made ALL of them look the same way in the whole game???? .... horrific deadlines in development?
Forgot how bad that intro is, the audio is still all over I remember turning volume up and down. And that guy with the shades 😎....is space not dark enough for ya bro 😅 Pure cringe
Enjoyed the video? Read my retrospective on the game: vintageisthenewold.com/retro-revisited-alien-breed-tower-assault/
We didn't get to see any survivors. Also there was some ranged enemies. The security bots shot at you and also the security turrets.

Identical rooms, identical enemies, The game is not boring?
Team 17 were a powerhouse of quality back then

Buy yourself an Evercade handheld. The whole team 17 collection is on there. Play it legally and with quality emulation via cart.

You shouldn't get anywhere near Alien Isolation then. 🙂
This is definitely one of the best games i have ever played. Loved it
This was amazingly well-played, on a great platform (CD 32)! Thank you for fulfilling my request!
Glad you enjoyed it 😀
One of my favourite games. The stress management with self destruction scenes as kid... it made the woman i am today! :D
ONE OF MY FV GAMES TOO
Haha that’s cool I hold huge nostalgia for Alien Breed games still have the first one remaster on my PS3
I have spent many beautiful hours playing this game. I liked the atmosphere of this game the most. I have a great fondness for this game.

You're welcome 🙂
I was playing this recently on my cd32

PCMCIA slot.. close, you had all the right letters 🙂
This was definitely an inspiration for Dead Space

awesome long play for a EPIC game :)
Just completed 1 and 2 on evercade, hard as nails. Remember them on my Amiga. Just starting this one.
Loves Alien Breeds!

this was teh first AB that i've ever played outside of an amiga
It's very pretty Bishop, but what are we looking for?
This feels more "realistic" thanks to the live footage. Old fashioned game immersion techniques.
(Edited: Nice detail those Eastern Eggs.)
I would have thought they were inspired by Command & Conquer, but this came before, so maybe it was the other way around.
"We didn't stand a chance..."
Player: *Machine guns 1000s of aliens to death*
Did no one else in the towers have a gun?

Glad you enjoyed it - it was recorded using WinUAE emulator 🙂

Idk if I could ever take a Queen Alien seriously with that mouth at the "true" boss lol
let's get it Ooooon
Great playthrough. I was never able to complete the game with no cheats back in the 90s. It was too hard for a kid
Sorry you didn’t qualify as marine I finished all 3 at age 8-10yrs old

WHEN WILL NEC PC-98 GAMES ?
De los mejores juegos en vista cenital de toda la década.
Pure horror is the way the dead people lay in the infirmary.. what made ALL of them look the same way in the whole game???? .... horrific deadlines in development?
Their alarm system is terrible, so many murdered in their sleep! Also, colony would have benefitted from being more open-plan 😉 👍
The intro of this game was one of like most unnecessary fillers (in literal sense - it's cd-rom media) i've seen :)
Same Gun sounds from True Lies SNES.
Ckassic

Subtitles says "Very Afghan"
Dam this end Boss is only lame
Alien Breed non si discute, io sono un malato della serie!!
This game would have been awesome if not for having to shoot shite constantly.
Non lo conosco
