Big Super, I can’t thank you enough for showcasing my community. As a child, these are the neighborhoods that helped shape who I am. Along with your visit to Portmore; these are the communities that always will be in my heart. Thanks.🇺🇸🇯🇲
This is one my old community in Jamwica. I spent some good years there from the mid 70's to 1979. We lived in the Antrim area on Oakdene Ave. I would walk a couple blocks up to Lexington Ave, turn right and go 3 blocks to enter througu the Excelsior back gate. As a kid I would go play football with some older guys. The poster on the Excelsior fence is for the annual Ali Cup which is in honour of Ali Cole (son of Alan Skill Cole) who died too soon. Two of my older sisters went to that school. Thanks for making the walk, and thanks to Natalie for the word of prayer. Blessings!
So Backbush now has a fancy name. Remember when Backbush and Nannyville were at war and Excelsior was caught in the middle. Mr. Wong used to drive his old car, and if he stopped to offer you a ride, you better accept. Those days you could not be found after 7 pm in your Excelsior uniform or you would be in serious trouble. We also did not buy exercise(note) books at Excelsior. When we finished using an exercise book, the subject teacher would just sign it and we take it to the book room and get a new one for free.
Those places (Deanery Rd, Antrim Rd, Deanery Dr, Mountain View Ave, etc.) used to be places that I knew so well. Now, nowhere looks familiar, except for my former high school.
🇯🇲BigSuper ♥️, Blessings to you and your guest, Natalie. I wonder how did those goats get in the middle of that busy road to graze on the grass, and how are they going to maneuver the fast moving traffic to get home.🤔 Mountain View, close to my prep and primary school in Allman Town, and my weekly run to lower South Camp Road to "Lannaman's Sweetie Factory," and school breakup-track meets held at National Stadium, memories from my school days at home in Jamaica. Mi jus ah fass, but ah wah or who lure yuh weh from Kingston wid our clean-clean sidewalks tuh guh liv innah St. Thomas tuh compete wid di traffic fi road space? 🇯🇲
Natalie and BigSuper you got to do some walks along Antrim Ave, Deanery Ave, Baron Road, Bygrave Ave, 2nd Ave, 3rd Ave, 4th Ave, to Camp Road up, etc all through Mountain Terrace, also the neighborhoods, where upper Elliston Road ends in the Up Park Camp areas of Vineyard Town, basically all thought Vineyard Town. Later you can do a tour of Franklin Town. Thanks BigSuper and Natalie. Also the neighbourhoods on the opposite side of Mountain View Ave. across from the Stadium and Arthur Wint Drive , thanks again
Big Super you were in my neighborhood here but I lived bottom mountainview passing mcgregor gully if you can go that wayi would love it when you take deanery ave where the police station is on to mountain view like you’re heading back down mountain view please 🥰🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Those sidewalks along Mountain View Avenue are terrible. I remember hearing the rifle shots when they used to do target practice at the Rifle Association. Mountain View Avenue looks so different from when I last saw it decades ago.
Great walkout the area looks good, blessings from down under 🦘🇦🇺👍🇯🇲👍🏿
My sister has classmate from Excelsior High School who lives down under. It I remember correctly he is an engineer.
