Knuckleheads is the best place ever to sing a train song. Apparently it happens all the time. I once saw Todd get interrupted by a train at a bar in Kalamazoo, MI. He broke into Folsom Prison Blues. What a goddamn moment. Thanks, universe.
I lived in Dalhart TX from 2007 til 2019, my wife and I were true alcoholics which ment I'd walk the mile round trip to the liquor store 6 days a week, because of the previously mentioned alcoholism no license. I'd have to cross the railroad tracks, at least 4 days a week I'd be standing there with a stopped train changing the crew, shaking cause I need a good pull from the handle of vodka in my bag and I'd turn this very song on right here, it's the panhandle of Texas, some days pushing 100, while others 3 foot of snow on the ground. I'm just over 18 months from my last drink, I set my wife in the ground on March 16 2017.
i seen Robert at knucklehead's in k.c.m.o.in fall 2011.as he played ''train song'' a real locomotive howled mournfully in the background...(the place is just off the tracks) it sent chills up my spine.
Meanwhile back at The Hall of Justice... these Superfriends were hammering one out! Big fan of both, but don't mistaken Todd can hold his own with anybody. Glad this is on here, love them both and have for 20yrs!

I got to see this live at the ryman the place was electric to say the least this is an amazing duo on the song i have heard both versions on cd and favor rek but both live is the best
I am sure Todd Snider is thrilled that REK covered his song. REK doesn't hog the mic at all, as a matter of fact, they both kind of leave it un-manned for much of the performance, as a way to defer to one another. Of course this is Todd's song, and he has a great version. REK's studio version has much better musicianship in my opinion, but both are great songwriters, singers, storytellers, and performers.
Yah! Get loud, get happy! I saw REK at Kate Wolf Festival in 2010 (to die for!), then Todd Snider & American Taxi at Kate Wolf Festival in 2011. All THAT, AND a cuppa coffee!!! Lovin' it!
