Oh, thank you very much! We needed this more logic ending. It was confused the old house in front of the Lake of Jade's dad! They were saying goodbye to him. Then, the final scene, with the beautiful words of Martin Hewitt is perfect. I always thought they remained back together.
Hewitt was good in this. I often thought he seemed 80% related to Jamie Dornan with a 20% splash of Mark Ruffalo. Although that was just a visual similarity. For me, his acting he was his own person.
I used to listen to a recording of this dialogue back in elementary and never really understood it until now and how it in some way relates to my life.

do you think Jade fell in love with David again? Maybe this is just me but I think Jade visited him periodically and the more time she spent away from him, the more she realized how unwell he was and moved on. Hopefully David moved on eventually
Exactly, why would she forgive him after all the horrible things he’s done to her family. I mean he is mentally ill! But Jade is still young so she thinks otherwise at first. Jade was a kid David, she grew up, she moved on, accept it!

Where is David? I hope it's not prison and hospital;; This movie includes so much tragedy. So scary enless love. but I like this film. Brooke shields is so beautiful and pure. Martin too. Even though this story is so dark and weird to me it makes me hope their happyness truly.
yes David was sent back to the mental help institution in the movie but brooke shields (jade) came to visit him after all and it really defines her love and davids love as ENDLESS LOVE.
I really appreciate you uploading and translating this version. I have to disagree with you about her going to see him at the end of the movie. This ending has plagued me if you will for years since I first saw it in a theater. I want you to pay close attention to Jade walking across the street and watch where her face moves to. Since David is outside and looking out of the bars she would be able to see him but when she looks ahead she does it for a split second and then looks up. She doesn't stop to smile at him or even wave or acknowledge that he is standing just behind the bars. I honestly think that this is how David would want to see her walking to see him but that this isn't really what happens. I am not saying that it won't ever happen but this ending left it open to a lot of interpretation and this is mine.

This alternative ending, ummm...sucks, which is why it wasn't used. I prefer the movie the way it was, that ending was fine...David, institutionalized again...but this time Jade goes to him, which says enough. We find the additional dialogue interesting because we're fans of the movie.
what i didnt like was the way it ended. i liked the 2014 remake better with gabriella wilde and alex pettyfer because that version ended with jade and david moving to california and she did a voice over lecture on never giving up on true love
Amelia Beey this 1981 original movie followed the novel more than the REMAKE movie of 2014. It was directed by the famous Italian director who gave us the 1969 ROMEO AND JULIET movie (European directors has different takes on Romantic tragic heart breaking vision of BROKEN HEART than Western Directors). This movie he made was more focused to the two characters deep emotion and sadness of the original NOVEL set in 1960s. But the movie was set in 1980s and it did follow important parts of the story in comparison to the REMAKE 2014 movie. The novel book is quite thick and the director did his best in a shorter version. I must say the novel is heartbreaking and the original shared such poignant ,unfortunate relationship of the main characters from the novel. The cinematography of the movie (not fast paced scenarios ) as the artistic visualization of the story speaks strongly to our heart. if we carefully understand the Directors point of view based on the novel. But i do understand your feeling about it and glad you shared it. ;)
