When I heard the song from the beginning I did not like it. Once he put his hands on it that song sounds great. I can't put it in words without being too long. Wow!

Wow what good eyes he has for organisation. did i understand this right? The hot mix is just a reference for him how the master would sound? And he is mostly doing parallel processing, except auto align. I find it a bit ironic that he clarifies a few times he would have barely plugins on the tracks, while he has a dozen of Send-Busses with single plugins. However thanks for the video :)

How is he getting so many plugins to work on so many tracks without bogging down?

I learned a few things here, but my god is my head spinning. I already have enough confusion when it comes to submixes, but this masterclass just blasted me off to an uncharted planet. I mean, I would need a diagram to keep up with all those steps. I watched this like 3 times just to realize it wasn't me, he kinda went all over the place. While he is a very intelligent man, even possibly a studio genius, not many people are going to follow this unless he were to break it down step by step. Can someone illustrate how many groups of submixes there were and what order they were in? There were bus tracks above and below the project. I need to regroup, this got me all twisted up :x

Sub groups for each major element:
Drums, Bass, Gtrs, Keys, Vox, BVs, maybe FX as well.
You can place them anywhere in the session you want but often it'll be at the end of the session all together one after another.
Route all drums to the drums sub, all bass tracks to the bass sub etc.
Each engineer may do this slightly differently; it took me a while to sort through this and other youtube videos to get the idea.
These sub groups are then sent to the master bus where you do any 2Bus compression and EQ.
Frank also uses VCAs tied to his sub groups for automation, if i remember correctly.
I've revisited this video after a few years, keep going!

While I can see what you mean about him skipping around, there is nothing confusing about this lecture as-is if you're well-read on your basics and have a healthy knowledge of advanced mixing concepts.

I hate to ask this, but is it just me or does his mix sound pretty bad?

The whole idea of having boosts and cuts in a template is bad itself.
