Could be. Or, maybe they are having problems filling a position, and their strategy is to repost so that the position floats back to the top and doesn't stay buried underneath all the other postings. Does not necessarily imply turnover.

Let me sum it up for you readers: In my experience over the years of applying for corporate jobs, 90% of job interviews you will participate with are nothing more than "courtesy interviews". In other words, the hiring authority already knows who they want to place into the role but need to have a certain percentage of external candidates interviewed where they (the potential employer) are essentially going through the motions. Only difference, the potential employer(s) are getting paid to perform these stagged contrived events, you are not!

    • @Nepthu
      @Nepthu ปีที่แล้ว +10

100% truth. This is very often in places with a union. Union contracts may requires the employer to hold a certain number of interviews for any open position. Management may know who they want and even make a verbal guarantee with that person behind closed doors. However, openly they'll have these "courtesy interviews" to give the appearance that they gave everyone a shot to apply.

9:01 This is completely false. I ‘ve worked in HR for 20+ years. In-house recruiters are on a salary and don’t have time for “staged” interviews. They could care less if the selected candidate is internal or external. Their pay remains the same. Also, corporations are not required by law to have a percentage of external candidates. If it’s a union opportunity, the contract dictates how recruiting , selection and promotions are determined.

I believe you. Back in 2011 I was being considered for a VP position at a major hospitality management company, or at least I thought so. My resume made a strong case. I flew halfway across the country to interview and I sat down with some junior HR girl to whom I showed respect in case it was a test of character. When I began using more advanced terms is when the other HR person joined us. I asked about meeting the hiring manager and taking a facility tour. When they told me I wouldn't be doing either, I was a very annoyed. They knew I spent my own money to fly out there and that's what I got? It was obvious I was an exercise for the HR newbie. I left absolutely disgusted at how I was treated and let them know. FU Darden Restaurants. 🖕

Hi Brian, Companies encourage us to create a profile in their careers page and tell us that they would contact us if our skills & experience matched with any future job postings. My question is does a company recruiter actually look at the resumes in their own database ? Or is it just a waste of time creating & maintaining these profiles? Would love your opinion on this! Thanks

I never do this unless it’s a company I really want to work for. I see it as a waste of time. Even when I apply on LinkedIn, if it’s not easily apply and I click on apply now, if they ask me to login, I end my application immediately. When they ask for a cover letter I ignore it, if they ask me to explain how my experience in x fits into the role, I end the application.
I don’t have time for this BS. If the application isn’t name, number, address, upload resume and submit? I end the application.

I got a phone interview request from one of the posts, but after the phone interview, I had the feeling they were just fishing to see what’s out there. Didn’t hear back from the company. When I called the hiring manager, he told me he’d already forwarded my resume to the operations manager and he’d be the one calling on me to move forward.

I'd rather put in a quality application and be seen as a potential applicant for the job early than wait for a candidate to drop out later down the track when they have more alternatives to choose from. I once applied for a job 5 days after it posted, heard nothing. Put in the exact same application a week later within a day of the job ad reposting and had the job 2 days later.

The new staff are very quick to run to HR telling tales to sabotage other employees. I blame the "recommended a friend" bonus. It seems to me that how people turn it to their advantage is as follows: 1. Get hired. 2. Tell tales on co workers so they leave or get fired. 3. Recommend one of your friends to take the now vacant position. 4. Get yourself a bonus on top of your pay for recommending a friend to HR. 5. Rinse and repeat at a different company.

Take any job so at least you're working and get a morale boost even if it's entry level. Without knowing your skills & abilities, if you have a degree and need a entry level job, leave it off applications/resumes. Restaurants, retail, gas stations/convience stores, warehouses/distribution centers, call centers/answering services- all these will hire with no or little no experience. Indicate open availability to get the interview when you fill out the application.

I think LinkedIn has changed the way ir counts applicants. It asks if you have applied.

Is it legal for a job to ask about race? If so,why would race place a factor?

Don't apply too early because they will start testing you and then they will get resume from the candidate they might like more and then you will waste time spent on tests, assignments, case studies etc. They might also not know what they want to ask you. Nobody is perfect, everybody learns on the go. I normally apply past the deadline to see how needy company is in that position.

True... Companies will be very picky thinking they can find a unicorn... Until they don't and they settle. It's like dating actually

i just skip job postings that require registering to a company's ATS system, i view it as disrespectful and an outdated way of dealing with talent acquisition.

I don’t apply directly as this is a total waste of my time and most likely ends up in a black hole, and the return on your time invested is negligible. It’s best to use recruitment consultants as most high value candidates will use them and not waste their time with filling forms online.

I just set up a account on Career Builder. It seems like I am getting spams asking for my cell number to contact me. On Indeed and LinkedIn I will receive a number to call or a direct website. Just saying.
