Being from Arizona I have had my share of snake encounters. While I don't have any particular fear of them, anytime I get surprised by one it gets my heart racing for sure! Glad it was not poisonous...

My husband saw a snake and knocked me down getting away from it. It was a grass snake. So I did what any "country girl" would do. I picked it up and chased him around the yard with it. He screamed like a girl. LOL
I feel the same way about snakes as you do. A friend of mine brought his wife fishing on trip to the snake river east of Baker city Oregon and when a rattlesnake swam to the boat and crawled I swear she walked on water or should I say ran on water.
What's with the shoes and socks. When you're near the beach in Australia you go barefoot, most of the snakes and stuff will give you a wide berth unless you're dumb enough to stand on them, lol. When you live in Australia you learn to look where you're going, maybe a little annoying if you have a video camera on the go but a good survival tip nonetheless.
Actually pretty sure that is a diamond python, not a carpet python. Do a google image search for "diamond python australia" and "carpet python australia" to see the difference.

You are sooo lucky it was just a python. So many of the snake species in Australia are venomous. Keep up your stomping walk.
