    Nice job. I am an old ex-fitter/welder and MAN do I miss welding on big inch pipe like this. I always welded 6010 uphill on most of the jobs I did, but it all depends on specs, of course. We did 5P root and hot and 7018 fill and cap. I LOVED it! Old and fat now, and probably lost my hand at it, but it's the best thing I ever did, as far as a skill set. Welds so pretty you want to take a picture of them.

    That Welder helper was On top of the ball, He deserves a promotion for the sake of ergonomics and work efficiency.

    Those are some of the best helpers I’ve ever seen. I like how he was watching his tacks go in and gave him a little more amperage. It’s been my experience that they’re usually staring off into space when we’re burning. I’m on the building construction side though...different world.

      The helper just stood there and grinned when he needed to. But if your referring to the guy in the black and white hoodie he’s a fitter and that’s his job. Don’t think he’s a helper.

    • @overtheclouds9
      @overtheclouds9 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheGsquad697 You must not understand the weld process. Yes, I am talking about the guy in all black with the blue hard hat. His job is to be ready with the rod, grinder and remote.
      If you’ve been around pipelines and fieldwork you know he was on 🔥. That’S EXACTLY what a helper is supposed to do. It takes a while for a helper and welder to be in sync. The helper needs to be 1 step ahead of the welder and ready for any curveballs. I have been doing this for 33 years. I’ve maybe had a handful of helpers that on top of it.

    Awesome job guys I built ski lifts for 22 yrs did a lot of tower work we used to cut the tower to length with a chain track torch sometimes splicing two thirty or forty ft tower tubing together we ran flat fluxcore using foot pedal rotary system welded top caps & 1 1/2" thick 4×4' base plates with eight gussets, we had a guy come work with us who was a pipe welder who worked for shell oil off the coast of California who had a truck n stick welder he'd tack the tower splice and weld up one side than the other the flux would hang off the weld he was one of the best welders i ever saw he made us look bad lol!! his name was bill bowen great job guys

They just don't understand do they , I do my own welding with an arc inverter here, and have welded all my life, hard facing loading shovel buckets and teeth etc, but nothing on this scale , and after all that time I still hate vertical welding...subbed, well done from UK

    Well what can l say I've been welding 40 years and can say that I've never seen or met two welders that welding or agree on any they all think there way is the best and that may be inthere opinion but let me tell you you do it your way and it gets your desired results stick with it there's no right wrong or correct way just a rust that gets it done and that's the right way.

    Welders are in high demand in a number of major industries including shipbuilding, pipeline construction, aerospace, and automotive repair. As demand continues to exceed supply, skilled welders have the enviable position of being able to pick and choose jobs based on the type of work they like to do, where they would like to live, and how much they would like to earn. A professional career in this industry will allow you to travel, all the while earning a solid income; not many jobs can compete with that!

    Forgive me. I'm a welder but not a pipe welder at all but I have a few questions if you could please take the time to answer.
    1. How come you're welding downhand? Is that part of the weld procedure required?
    2. Is there not any slag inclusions between the start and finish of each welds? Are these just burnt out and merge with the slag of the new weld?
    3. Is that dial changing the amperage as the welder goes around?
    I hope I haven't made any offence just looking for knowledge.
    Thanks,
    Great videos by the way.

    • @brandonralston870
      @brandonralston870 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      1. Most pipe welding procedures call for downhill welding.
      2. You burn out all the slag you can, and buff and grind it out between passes.
      3. Yes, the dial is the remote fin e amperage control

    • @bricksquadmonoply8835
      @bricksquadmonoply8835 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your Tensile Strength is actually increased with the Shielded Metal Arc welding process when you weld with downhand progression and it is much faster. If you were to up hand all your passes it would greatly reduce production. Some people think that downhand welds are actually weaker then up hand welds but this is a common misconception. I have heard some welders say that the only reason they downhand pipe is because the pipe is buried and there's external pressure from All the compacted earth around the pipe after it's buried. I don't believe that because I've done above ground pipelines in the downhill progression.

    • @intrinity187
      @intrinity187 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Bricksquadmonoply . i weld pipe everyday. i actually make the pipe, steel core reinforced concrete pipe from 30-144". up hill welding is both faster and stronger then downhill. going downhill has less penetration and you must do more smaller passes.

    • @mryesterday
      @mryesterday 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      No, downhill is faster. That's why is Pipeliners weld downhill. There are NO uphill welds on the pipeline.

    Kind of a dumb question, but I mostly mig and tig in my shop... =P I noticed these guys run one bead right after the other without chipping off the slag at the end of the previous weld. I guess there's no need to worry about slag inclusion due to the amps used, or what? Just burns it outta the way?

    All welding is done through an arc.
    And to answer your question, yes, it absolutely is worth welding.
    A: Stick welding along with TIG separates the boys from the men, meaning anyone can pull a trigger and run beads after some practice.
    B: No other process matches the tensile strength of regular SMAW. MIG filler wire has about 15000lbs of strength(depending on gauge) whereas the staple electrode 7018 has 70,000lbs of pull behind it.
    So yes, it still is relevant.

    My uncle is in a welding union in the states and i too will be joining soon. I just dont want to disappoint him when i get there so i am trying to be as good as i possibly can before i move...
    With that said, what size gap is in this pipe? I mean for the root pass. Also do you guys cap the pipe as well? if so how wide is the entire gap and how many passes do you do on the cap? Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

    I have a question: when should remove the line-up clamp.
    After the root pass or after the hot pass?

    Заметьте- у сварщика помощник, пока сварщик зачистит, пока табуретку принесет- руки дрожат, а тут свежий человек только варит- вот оно качество!!!

    I weld like this time to time where I work, welding "D" rings on either ends of large
    diameter induction bends, 45 to 90 degrees. Strip a 6010 root in down hand, 8010 1G
    hot pass down hand. Complete the weld with 8018 C3 up hand. You can't roll a bend.
    These two lucky beggars have helpers, me and my partner don't. Good vid.

    If you build a rack and have the rack loaded you can increase your production tremendously. you can keep your welders busy all day by having the pipe spaced and set up ahead of them.
