Magic Sam Mole's Blues Lesson by Johnny Burgin

- What made Magic Sam "magic"? He took ordinary ingredients and made them dazzling, and he took basically typical phrases and forms and made them as dramatic as possible. Delmark's "Magic Sam Live" (especially the Alex Club sides) sometimes seems like one high point after another on songs like "Mole's Blues", "Every Night About this Time", etc. I ran through 5 of the 6 choruses of "Mole's Blues" with a looper and tried to demonstrate as much of what Magic Sam did as I could. Hello, Johnny. This was by far the most fascinating and instructive session I've ever had. You're a fantastic guitarist, but you're an even greater instructor. Magic Sam, Earl Hoocker, early BB King, and, of course, Buddy Guy playing with Junior Wells are all favorites of mine. I believe that many of us would benefit from similar lessons on this outstanding guitarist. If I may, I would like to express my appreciation if you could do more lessons on Buddy Guy's early tunes with Junior Wells.
