    Colin is a loverboy living in a society where being a loverboy is seen as pathetic/embarrassing. I mean even Anthony and Benedict, his own brothers, mocked him for being like that in s1, yet praised him for being more rakish this season.

    "In fact, preferring sleep because that is where I might find you." is the best line in the entire season so far. Also, the moment of silently asking for and getting consent was FIRE.

      The consent featured throughout the scene (he didn't even enter the carriage without her permission) was incredible! Such a wonderful display of Colin's character and respect for Pen. You can tell she trusts him implicitly, and rightly so. Easily my favorite Bridgerton couple in the series thus far and can't wait for Part 2 to get here.

    The Carriage scene. So hot. I honestly love Colin, he's the only Bridgerton male lead yet to once he feels something he didn't play games, he went for it, he allowed himself to try and he risked rejection. He knows what he wants when he wants.

    Great reaction as usual! Just an FYI, Penelope couldn't tell Colin about the Marina situation privately - in those days, men could not break engagements, and even if there was some way for him to do so, her pregnancy would've come to light and the ton would have assumed Colin was the father, so his reputation would've been ruined either way. The only way for her to "save" Colin and his family's reputation was to publish the news, allow her own family to bear the disgrace and make it clear that Marina had arrived in town already pregnant by another man. I sympathize with Marina's predicament in S1, but ultimately she targeted Colin because he was easily manipulated and I think in time he will come to realize this and forgive Pen for taking action, ESPECIALLY considering that he ruined her plans with Debling without knowing how she felt about him. They both broke convention to save one another from loveless marriages. All's well that ends well!

      Pen is so consistently overlooked and dismissed it valid for her to think the queen wouldn’t believe her capable and just think she is trying to save her friend Eloise.
      But also, it’s kind of annoying if she would’ve had to out herself to protect Eloise simply because Eloise refused to listen when Pen told her to stop looking into whistledown and sneaking off to see Theo.

    Gotta point out that if she 'outed' herself then her own family would have suffered considerably--FAR more than any member of the Bridgerton family who are so evidently wealthy nothing ever "sticks" to them. Eloise got a taste of what it felt like to be Penelope for a little bit. Yeah, Penelope did not do the most ethical action. But she's still way ahead of almost everyone else in the show, especially given her own context. And she does not feel that, though, which is one of many reasons I love her.

  • @LordVolkov

    "It was a little femcel of Pen..."
    I do think Pen has made big strides getting out of her 'femcel' behavior this half season.
    She tried to move on from Colin, made some self-improvements, and is generally being less harsh with WD. I was worried the writing wouldn't turn her around for me but I am glad it has.

    I assume that the reason Cressida isn't allowed to speak to Eloise is because of what Lady Whistldown wrote about her last season. Being seen unchaperoned and speaking with radicals.

    • @garlantyrell6368
      @garlantyrell6368 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      I don’t think so. I think that scandal has been pretty much forgotten at this point. I personally believe Cressida isn’t allowed to spend time with Eloise is because her father wants her to focus on finding a suitable husband as fast as she can rather than hang out with friends, seeing Eloise as a distraction.

    Debling cared about Penelope and Colin’s feelings for one another because he was afraid she would cheat on him while he was away for 3 years which would be social ruin for Debling. It was purely selfish.

      @@KforFreedom She resigned herself to marrying Debling because he at least offered her independence. She could keep being lady whistledown and have security and discretion. But it was never gonna be a full life. At that point she couldn’t believe there was a chance with Colin. Her mother couldn’t even believe Colin was her friend so Pen decided she would just love him from afar. Debling was always gonna be second best.

    I'm so into Pen and Colin. He's such a puppy. Lbr, if he had wanted truly to stay with Marina, he'd have forgiven her and marry her anyway. He was young and infatuated. I think Pen chose the lesser truth to save Eloise and herself ( plus the people who are also involved in the LW print). Eloise was reckless and put everyone at risk, and she was putting Theo at risk as well, in her reckless pursuit, shedidn't care that she would ruin basically someone's whole life business. Eloise was the one going after LW.

    • @KforFreedom
      @KforFreedom 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s so true, Eloise brought what happened upon herself & at least at the time wasn’t accepting any of the responsibility for it. Penelope saved Colin from a terrible marriage (at great cost to her family). Marina was tricking him & taking advantage of his naivety. She certainly didn’t love him (cause you would never do that to someone you cared about).

    • @practicaldreamyr
      @practicaldreamyr 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@KforFreedom I'll take it one step further and say that Pen outed Eloise in the most delicate way possible - her insinuating she was attending meetings with "radicals" implied that she was primarily spending time with Theo because of her political leanings (and she never named Theo in her accusations so he wasn't directly targeted), NOT because she was fraternizing with a man below her station. The latter would've come out eventually due to Eloise's recklessness (perhaps by being spotted by another member/s of the ton), and that would have been far more ruinous to her reputation and chances for making a good marriage in the future. Pen made the best out of a terrible situation.

    • @jessh6210
      @jessh6210 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Also lets all remember the emotional state Penelope was in after she wrote about both these situations, she was heartbroken to have to hurt any of these people, she was even going to give up whistledown after the Eloise situation. She may have had other options, sure, but she picked the 1 she felt was the best at the time, and it hurt her to do it too, it wasnt just hurting them.

    I think Colin actually has his own estate, probably in the country. One of the things that mentioned is that their father and Anthony made sure all the children were set up financially. That said, I do believe Pen and Colin will win the baby race and have a son. That keeps her as lady whistledown in the city of Mayfair and them more central to the story.

  • @suegeorge8694
    @suegeorge8694 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    When it comes to Pen outing Marina, I think people forget that Pen was still a young girl. She may have made a mistake, but I think she truly believed that was the only option she had.
    The Eloise issue is really complex. Eloise painted the target on her own back with her actions. Yes, Pen could have given herself up to the Queen resulting in 1 of 3 things.
    1. The Queen doesn't believe her. She is trying to save her best friend.
    2. She believes her and everything is great.
    3. The Queen believes her but she is very angry. She could punish Pen harshly. That punishment could then be doled out to the LW printer, the boys that deliver to the ton. If the boys don't get paid, their families may suffer bacause of it.

    Penelope has a better argument for having wrecked his engagement to Marina than Colin has for storming the dance floor and wrecking her proposal from Debling. And then she gives herself the exact same dragging she gave Eloise last season, as Whistledown. So I understand all the hurt the revelations will bring about and need working through, but when it comes down to the two major sins of Lady Whistledown, Penelope can say she has experienced equal and matched retribution by having the exact same ruination brought down on herself. I think Pen is meaner to herself in her Whistledown outing in Ep. 2 as a definite display of humility and self-punishment that she knows Eloise will see.
    Eloise is literally like "dang you didn't have to be that harsh to yourself" and Pen is like "I'd do it again I'd do worse if it'll help you forgive me to know that I've made myself bleed in the same way I hurt you."

    I actually don’t think pen could have quietly told Colin about the marina baby situation because her mother would have known it was her. You imagine life for pen after outing marina to Colin. Her mother would probably have sent her off to a convent and done away with her or worse kept her in the house and treated her worse than she does not. I don’t really think pen the one telling the truth should be getting the burning at the stake treatment for outing marina in the only way she could for the devious scam marina and pens mother were trying to pull on Colin’s and his family. Just because Colin is a nice man and he said he would have taken the fall with marina does not make it okay. you say he would have married her he said he would have but only if marina had told him herself so pen telling him would have put him off of marrying her to begin with just the pen would have had to have taken the fallout for telling him with her mother. Which I don’t think she should have to marina treated her very badly in the end too after she figured pen was an obstacle she was dismissive and hurtful on purpose to try to stamp out Penelope’s courage to say anything. I don’t doubt that Penelope probably thought that if she said anything to Colin marina would have outed her feelings to Colin as a way to proof to Colin that she was saying this to stop them from marrying . Aside from that marina was very much far Along at least 3 to 4 months for her to feel the baby. Not one person would believe that a full term baby was a premature 5 to 6 month baby who would never survive in that time period the whole family would have been involved in scandal it would be easy to tell that Colin was not the father due to time constraints. Marina was trying to trap him for that reason because married Colin would just had had to carry the burden for her one way or the other. Marina was very manipulative I just never understood how the person telling the truth gets the slack for it. Victim treating marina like she was not 100% the person in the wrong here. She chose to sleep with a man before marriage no one forced her to do it. After she should have taken the consequences for her actions. That time period sucked for women but that still does not give her the right to do what she was doing. People said she was doing it for her baby yeah ok the baby she herself tried to snuff out with whatever concoction she drank. No she was doing it for herself to get herself out of the situation she put herself in. If it were now everyone would be screaming foul and outing her to the person she was trying to ensnare. And the whole Eloise thing I always wonder where would Eloise be if pen had not written what she did. What queen charlottes would have done I almost wish pen had not written anything and just sat back and watched the drama Eloise created for herself by chasing whistledown lol. But pen would have also gotten slack for sitting back and doing nothing. So then I am left wondering what they wanted her to do. Go to the queen and out herself not that the queen would think she was saying the truth, but realistically why should she out herself when it was Eloise who entrapped herself in the situation. Why should Penelope put herself in that danger with the queen when she had repeatedly warned Eloise not to do what she was doing because of the danger she was putting herself in. Pen knew writing whisteldown was dangerous but it was her only means of having a voice in a place and society where she had none so taking that risk made sense for her. But Eloise who has a voice in her family went around getting herself into unnecessary danger for what for enjoyment. She likes to scream woe is me and not listen to her friends and I say friends because now that she is with Cressida she also doesn’t listen to what Cressida says. She told her she had a family that backs her up so she can do what Eloise does and her family won’t push her to do what most women’s family would require of them. Eloise sits on a place of privilege but wants to give the woe is me speech every chance she gets while these girls are out here struggling trying to marry off just to get 1/5 of the freedom Eloise enjoys without effort. I really need Eloise to do some maturing but I really don’t know what would open her eyes because god knows her family are never going to give her the proper talking to they are too loving and cuddle her too much to actually sit her down and show her that she has something no other girls are afforded in this society. The ability to do what she wants and not be forced into a marriage she doesn’t want.

      I don’t understand how people have so much empathy for Marina, that they would think Penelope was wrong. She did the only thing she could do to save Colin (her friend) from a disastrous marriage. Marina was so devious & she didn’t even love Colin (just using all the best parts of him to entrap him). In addition to being so far along in the pregnancy, she has twins. She was going to be very large soon & everyone would have known he was not the father.
      Great points about Eloise. I enjoy watching her but you are correct that she continues to not be sensitive to her friends’ feelings. She still thinks Penelope wanted to be a Spinster (with her). At least twice she said incredibly insensitive things to Cressida. Like in the Library scene where she makes a joke that Cressida being married off to an old guy her parents choose is like a German novel. & it’s for the best, you don’t want a diet of vegetables. We’ve seen Eloise does care for her friends but she needs to speak less & listen more

    I get her mom giving “good advice” for the time but it’s not like Pen doesn’t already know what Portia thinks but Pen already has security as LW & Colin has the funds as well. I think even though it was not common at all back then holding out for love or rather love being something you need in a relationship isn’t a bad thing. Especially when we see how deprived of love she’s been for most of her life because whether people address it or not her mom has been emotionally abusive.

    Yes, he would have married marina, but he would have been trapped in a loveless marriage. Marina would have not been happy with him either. As much as everyone likes to say that he only liked her as a friend, if you go back and rewatch the other 2 seasons, he comes up to her most of the time. The what a barb scene, how do people look at that and think oh yeah he only sees her as a friend. I believe he didnt allow himself to view her like that and he misunderstood his feeling as those for a friend. I truly believe that if he had married marina, he would still have realized sooner or later that he loves pen. Shes the only one who sees him for who he is and loves him for it. He sees the world differently because of her he changed his whole personality because he felt like she didnt care anymore, and his family really never listened to him. Even when he was courting marina, he was staring at penelope in the first episode.

    I didn’t know you two are amazing singers! I adored your impromptu improv. For someone who doesn’t talk much, John Sterling (Lord Kilmartin) has an incredibly beautiful voice. So deep and resonant. I don’t fault Violet for not being able to comprehend how Francesca works as a person, Frankie being so different from her mother and siblings. It’s not like Violet doesn’t try to understand so the love and care is there. But I can see why Francesca gets so tired and prefers being elsewhere. And Violet is probably (secretly, even from herself) relieved when she doesn’t have to fret over Francesca. If not relieved, certainly expending less energy on getting nowhere.
    I get Domme vibes from Lady Tilley Arnold. Colin and Penelope are perrrrrrrrfect this episode. I had a little concern when Colin assailed the carriage so unconventionally, before realizing that for LW purposes, Penelope probably has had the carriage staff bribed thoroughly for years. Penelope’s staff ain’t hearing nuffing as long as Penelope is happy. Did you notice that after they had stopped, Colin put Penelope’s sleeve back onto her shoulder with only his thumb, ring and little finger, not tidying her up with his first two fingers? Colin truly is the most thoughtful of the male Bridgertons. Someone asked the director about it, and the director said it wasn’t instructed, Luke Newton just chose to tidy Penelope that way himself. Eeeeeeeeeeeeee!

    “Queen Charlotte” explained that Lady Danbury was married off to her gross old husband when she was VERY young, probably 15-16. I think her brother is several years younger than her, to the point that when she left to get married he was still a baby/small child or not even born yet. That would explain why they barely know each other as adults even now that they’re each grandparents.
    “The coachman is rooting for Pen.” Okay but for real I have this theory that the coachman heard everything and his only thought was “that girl’s family has been shitting on her for years, no way I’m going to narc on her.”

    The one thing I disagree with is Pen being able to just tell Colin about Marina being pregnant. Her mother would have known that it was her that told him and there would have been serious consequences for her from her mother. By putting it in LW, she was able to protect Colin as well as keeping her mother from finding out that it was her that told.
