Algernon Blackwood is my go-to horror writer when I’m looking for stories with subtlety, plausibility, and a strong sense of spirituality. In many ways, he’s the absolute master.
Here here! I wish I'd found Blackwood earlier in life-- The Willows is one of the most unique Eldritch horror stories ever written. I vastly prefer him to Lovecraft or Bloch.
I cannot express in words how grateful I am for this. I got a back injury over the holidays that's keeping me in bed almost as much as I had to be in 2018, when I became chronically ill. Horrorbabble was there for me then, and I'm so glad it's still there for me now.🥰
Wonderful collection, Ian; I'm really looking forward to cozying up with these at bedtime. Especially "The Willows"...I've always found that story exceptionally chilling (although I really don't need any additional chilling during this New England winter)!
Wow! Seven hours! You certainly put in a lot of work for these, and we appreciate it! I'm gonna work on these a little at a time. Several bowls of popcorn required! Thank you!
Algernon Blackwood once lived in Toronto & remained haunted for the rest of his life! Cheers Warren, who died a thousand times in Toronto & has haunted the Internet ever since!
I would never call myself a fan of horror….and then I realize I’ve listened to every video on this channel and your fantasy babble too.😅. Your narration is excellent. It’s in a class all it’s own. I know the workload must be exhausting ( especially after the holiday avalanche of stories you gifted to us) but I do look forward to when you add to the other channel. Thank you again. 🫡
That one's pretty good, I have it in a Blackwood compilation with "Max Hensig" but those are the only two good ones in the book that HB hasn't covered yet.
Since you've been going back and redoing some older Lovecraft stories, I think "The Music of Eric Zahn" should always be a strong contender for underrated gem in my humble opinion. It has a dream like quality just due to its rhythmic style of writing and how every described seems surreal.
Not the lineup I expected with 'Silence' and 'Blackwood' in the same title, but there's already a fine compilation of those stories on HB. :D (Still, there's that dusty-bookshelf-haunter who always hopes for some tales of forgotten lore yet to be discovered.)
Aww, no _Valley of the Beasts_ yet? That's my favorite of his tales. I first read it in one of Alfred Hitchcock's anthologies for "young people". The moral of the story: never piss off an Aboriginal god!

I agree. Tony Walker is also an excellent narrator. His channel is "classic ghost stories with Tony Walker."
If I remember willows is Lovecraft's favorite story, or his example of a perfect story.

I'm sorry you're out of commission. Happy holidays, huh? These stories are a great distraction. Hope things resolve soon.
Warren what a treat thanks Ian.
You are welcome! Warren!

About to get high winds and a foot of snow this evening. This will be perfect by the fire!
I’ll be painting all day to this. Thank you!!!
Hello Warren how's it feel to be dead ?? Thank you Ian for all your hard work
Another great read sir Ian! My apple trees enjoy these bizarre tales very much in the evening hours with me :)
A murder mystery by Blackwood, with no ghosts? Cool departure!
GO ON SIR IAN
LET RIP ....GOD BLESS YOU 🫵🥸
Bloody hell 00.35 still listening, might as well get the Jack out.
Finishing off with The Willow's - Weird Tales wouldn't be what it is without standing on Blackwood's shoulders and digging the landscape :)
This is brilliant. Has the channel done 'the listener'?

Thank. Reading the 😢bible 😢😢😢it's scary...
@@StephenSinclair-d6nI bet! The book that made the dark ages so cheerful, those Abrahamic religions are just wonderful.

The Willows is up there with The Vaults of Yom Vombis, , (and a few others; it isn't a competition,) as my favorite story of the genre.
