Continuing his reflections on Divine Therapy, Fr. Thomas Keating describes the stages experienced as contemplative prayer helps a person move through levels of consciousness, becoming more and more attuned to God’s presence. Periods of consolation and desolation mark this process of purification and deepening awareness.
