Fun fact. Earliest written texts in Slovene was from the 9th and 10th century. Also it's the first Slavic language written in Latin. And is pretty intelligible to current Slovene speakers. Does not sound like a different language but more like someone from a mountain village is speaking to you. A feat hardly any other language can perform.
On beating up: Every true Slovene should climb Triglav. And the mountaineering tradition is for reaching certain points for the first time there is a passage. And in Slovenia climbing over 2000m high you get your ass spanked with a mountaineering rope [usually folded a few times so it does not really hurt]. For many Slovenes Triglav is their first mountain over 2000m, it's paths are quite well maintained, and one of them is very easy to take. Other 2K mountains can be harder even if they are shorter. Like Skuta at 2500m or Ojstrica at 2300m.
EDIT: And yes Austria. You need to know that historically Slovenia and Austria WERE the same land. For a little context: Usually monarchies have various levels of lands under their rule. Crown lands, commonwealth etc. The lands and people of Slovenia were the heartland of Austria. And the split wasn't as clean as was Slovenian split from Yugoslavia. There was a proper war with Austria post WW1. Liberated some lands and lost others. For example Maribor [Marburg] was city of lower Styria with a large fraction of German speakers that Slovenes took, but Gradec [Graz] had a large fraction of Slovene speakers city of upper Styria that remained in Austria. Maribor-Marburg is a German derived city name while Gradec-Graz is a Slovene derived city name. Things are even messier within Koroška [Kärnten/Carinthia]. There the Cities of Beljak [Villach], Celovec [Klagenfurt], and Borovlje [Ferlach] were majority Slovene, but due to a plebiscite and some arguably dodgy propaganda and means of measuring the results the population voted to stay in Austria, but by a narrow margin. The whole splitting of Slovenia from Austria was a stab for German speaking Austrians, but they deserved it by the way they trampled on cultural and linguistic rights of Slovene speakers.
Imagine as if the Midlands split from the UK. Not Scotland or Ireland, we all expect those to be loud about it and if Star Trek is real then Ireland and Northern Ireland will unify by 2024. But if heartland England - Midlands would split away after WW1.
EDIT 2: But we remained very closely tied, because much of our industry, economy and infrastructure remained linked. Even during the cold war Slovenia exported to Austria, we had our money in Austrian banks, we produced Austrian and German goods under licence for the world market, we had a faster train and general connection to Vienna than to Belgrade.

4:25 to answer your question, we don't. We only learn Ljubljana, Celje, Maribor, and the municipality in which the certain school is in. And the 4 or 5 municipalities around it.

And there are more islands around Slovenia, most of them on rivers, but none of them has church. And there is a village that is an island for only part of the year, as the lake is not there for the whole year-Cerknica(Tserknitsa) intermedient lake...

As a Slovene, that "Austria is our best friend" bit is pure bullshit. He probably talked to one specific people from the north-east of Slovenia. In no shape or form would most Slovenes consider Austria as their bestfriend. You were correct with saying Croatia. Croatia is a historical and natural ally although recent politics and nationalism ruined a lot.
And about the Triglav. Again, I dunno how the Slovenes he talked to worded it, but the tradition of the first time ascent on Triglav is basically getting a bit of a whipping with a climbing rope (gently).

As a Slovene not from the north-east of Slovenia, we do not have a best friend. But we do share quite a bit of history with Austria that many who are stuck in the 20th century like to forget. Austria is our historical ally, our people have been together for around a thousand years in different forms of empires since the 9th century. But the "recent" politics of late 19th century and the two world wars fiasco.. ruined a lot. In the end, it is probably a personal thing, which neighbour you feel closer to. All our neighbours are cool, Croatia especially.
