    Three rings for the Elven kings under the sky,
    Seven for the Dwarf lords in their halls of stone,
    Nine for mortal Men doomed to die,
    One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne...
    And one for the Ranger, who was banished from death.

    Lets talk about the lore:
    1. History of Minas Morgul. The city at 0:11 looks like Minas Ithil. Gondor built this tower and white marble city to defend against Mordor in the 2nd Age. This is where the White Tree and a Palantíri were originally kept. Sauron captured the city, but was later defeated in the War of the Last Alliance (when he lost the One Ring). Gondor returned to the city to watch over Mordor (0:18). In the 3rd Age, the Witch-king of Angmar and his Nazgul attacked Minas Ithil (1:39). This time they took over for good, and transformed the tower into what because known as Minas Morgul (1:44). The seemed to have gotten the lore down really good on this point!
    2. A new ring of power. This is found in no lore whatsoever. However, if anyone could make a new ring, it would be Celebrimbor.
    3. As for all of the comments about the black guy (0:15 and 1:35), yes, they do seem to being doing this because they want to be politically correct. However, perhaps they origin of the character is from far south around Harad where Tolkien describes the people as being of dark colored skin.
    4. The Balrog at 1:18 looks awesome! The only Balrog we know of that survived until the 3rd Age is Durin's Bane (the one Gandalf fights). However, it is possible that other Balrogs escaped the War of Wrath and remained hidden (as Durin's Bane did).

      @hoberst 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The transformation of minas ithil into minas morgul only makes sense as a flashback, as it takes place in the year TA 2002 i believe, and the first game takes place after the hobbit which around the year TA 3000, so either it's a flashback, or the timeline is messed up, or maybe the city is not minas ithil at all.

    Who gives a fuck if it's not lore friendly? The first one wasn't either. It's just a fun spinoff from the original story that isn't trying to be a part of it. Just sit back and enjoy it. As someone who has been reading Tokein's work since I was in elementary school, I could pick out a thousand things in just this 2 minute trailer that derive from the original story. But this isn't trying to pass itself off as canon in any way. If the gameplay is as good as the first one, that's all that matters.

      The point is that why milk the LOTR franchise? Why? It's disrepsectful to Tolkien. Some things are meant to not be altered with. Like would you like a Batman game where the Joker is Bruce Wayne and Batman is Harvey Dent? It's retarded! It's stupid and unessecary.
      People who support this kind of money milking cash grab are retarded and should educate themselves about the term "Original Author". Or kill themselves.

  • @vibingwiththewind2889
    @vibingwiththewind2889 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    Okay, guys. So, there have been a lot of comments on lore... and how it's wrong... and yet, it's also right.
    First off, let's remember that this game is NON-CANON. While the Game Developers feel it would be better to align itself and keep mostly true to the movies, the game itself is still non-canon.
    Now, into the lore
    Point 1: The Whole Plot. Obviously and of course, yeah, there's nothing in the lore about the Bright Lord of Mordor, a new Ring of Power and stuff, but it's a game - and it looks like an amazing game. I'm not going to treat it as canon, and therefore any lore inconsistencies, as the game isn't canon - do they really matter? I am a huge Tolkien nerd and this game looks great despite that, but let's take a look at lore 'inconsistencies.' This also includes the plot of the first game, and even the cinematics with Celembrimbor flashbacks have a few errors - for example, the first 16 Rings of Power were forged by Elven smiths + Annatar for the Elves (these were later captured by Sauron and distributes to men and dwarves). Only three of them were forged personally by Celebrimbor, being Vilya, Nenya, and Narya, which were untouched by Sauron. Celebrimbor had no part in creating the One Ring, and was killed by Sauron at the city of Ost-in-edhil, which was ransacked in the Second Age and Celebrimbor was killed. Fact: Ost-in-edhil was actually around when the Elves and the Dwarves were chill, and Celebrimbor was the character who created Durin's Door, the gate of Moria which Gandalf said Mellon too in the first movie.
    Point 2: The Black Guy. Apparently, this guy has been really controversial. I don't know why. During the Second Age, Gondor had a significant foothold in the South, throughout what is known as 'Southern Gondor' and Umbar, which are desert regions close to the land of Harad, where you would more likely find black people in Middle Earth. It's entirely possible that a Gondorian family living here could be black and they could move northwards long ago, and they would exist. Doubtless, there are probably racists in Gondor (Denethor, I'm looking at you) but still. Moreover, we can note that Gondor did lose most of this territory prior to the War of the Ring (with Umbar falling to the Black Numenoreans and becoming the headquarters of the Corsairs, and Southern Gondor falling significantly later in the third age). It's entirely possible there would be a black guy living in Gondor. Perhaps more improbable is the woman who is dressed in a similar uniform, as females in Middle Earth were not allowed in the army, but she may not be a soldier - or, she may be good enough to join anyway (I'm not sure, but it makes sense, given Gondor would be desperate, that if she was a really good soldier they'd let her in).
    Point 3: Sauron's Physical Body. Tolkien himself confirmed in his books with some of Gollum's dialogue that Sauron, at the time of the War of the Ring, had a physical body. While this may not be so true in the movies, Sauron did have a body - Gollum said that he had a 'four fingered black hand' (if I am remembering my words correctly). Sauron simply never left Barad-Dur out of paranoia. His 'All-Seeing Eye' in the books wasn't actually an Eye on top of the tower, instead, it was most likely the Palantir he had taken from Minas Ithil when he conquered the city and made it into Minas Morgul. He also confirmed that Sauron did indeed have physical form in his notes.
    Point 4: The Balrog. There were certainly other Balrogs, and in the books its stated that Sauron probably didn't know of the existence of these and the Balrogs were essentially entities with a power level almost that of Sauron (pre-One Ring). The Balrogs answered to Morgoth, the First Dark Lord, however, not Sauron. But, given that Sauron had earlier convinced the Numenoreans to worship Morgoth (not himself) and was almost certainly attempting to free his master, I think any surviving Balrogs once they had emerged from hiding would have worked with (not under, but with) Sauron.
    Point 5: The Fell Beasts. This point is a little more hazy, so I may be wrong on this, but I believe the Fell Beasts were only finally finished being bred after the Fellowship entered Moria. In the books, the first Fell Beast ridden by a Nazgul (presumably Khamul) was shot down near the Falls of Rauros by Legolas, while the Uruk Hai were searching for them. So, the fact that there were Fell Beasts prior to this (at least book wise) is incorrect.
    Point 6: Those Teeth Guys. What the hell is with those tooth-faced guys? They look like wights or wraiths, which certainly existed (such as the wights in the Barrow-downs).
    Point 7: The Ring's Inscription. Freezing the frame at 0:35, I can see, judging by what it says in the Black Tongue, it's reading out the precise same phrase as the One Ring of Power had. None of the other rings had this, and it doesn't fit to have it on the new ring, but it looks awesome none the less.
    Point 8: Thanks for reading! Holy crumbs, you got through this whole comment. All in all, the people at Shadow of War made a great game (this is the important bit - the game looks awesome) but also kept it within (kinda) logical lore boundaries for us true Tolkien nerds. I mean, the plot is absurd and ridiculous but the game is awesome and intense. To be honest, having seen the gameplay trailer, the fact that there are dragons when Smaug was confirmed to be the last great dragon (and considering Dragon fire was capable of melting Rings of Power (save the One Ring), the fact that there is a dragon is woah) - and that dragon looks pretty impressive.

      There also never was a second ring of power, and a Balrog would never work for Sauron. (Not to mention wasn't Durin's Bane the last Balrog?)
      Shadow of Mordor, while kind of true to the lore, raped it pretty hard with the DLC. This is nothing new, but we gotta complain about the black guy?

    What the fuck, people? This game has the most non-lore LOTR stuff in probably any media ever, and you think it breaks the lore because of a black guy? There are random Balrogs in Mordor, Nazghuls that fly around like ghosts, a gondorian Ranger that has been killed by a few fictional Commanders of Sauron that were never mentioned in the lore (yeah there were black Numenorians but nobody ever said something about the Black Hand or something), said gondorian Ranger is brought back to life because his body and soul comes together with that of an ancient wraith, who is in fact the restless spirit of a ringmaker that wants to destroy Sauron, together they can mind control orcs, caragors and graugs and whatnot, and they travel together to Mount Doom to forge a new ring of power that is as powerful as the one ring of Sauron. And all of this lore unfriendly material is where the new game will start. And you think a black guy in gondor is not compatible to the lore? Just look at the first game. And all of that should be irrelevant anyway because it doesn't matter because the first game was fucking awesome even though it had almost nothing to do with lotr lore, and I still loved it. So if your complain is that the developers ruin the lore by putting a black guy in there you either have no idea of the lore itself or you might wanna think about why you are so upset that there is a black person in a game to begin with.
    Anyway, the trailer looks fucking awesome. I'm going to love this game, considering how awesome the first part was.

    1:35 Uhhh no offence but JRR Tolkien's men of Westernesse were all Anglo Saxon Europeans. I get that the company wants to be ultra PC about this for profits, but unless that guy is fighting with the Haradrim alongside orcs he isn't a good guy as according to the source material. Tolkien was very specific about how groups of people looked, and watching people murder the source material for profits makes me die a little on the inside.
    Imagine seeing Jackie Chan play the role of Kunta Kinte. That's what this is like.

    • @georgecostanza7990
      @georgecostanza7990 7 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Nazgul Supposedly this is supposed to be from an "alternate universe" where Sauron the Maia has the same power as Melkor/Morgoth the Ainur.
      I can suspend my disbelief with that when it comes to that, sure, because they are just reusing characters from the series. But there were never any black men of Westernesse, the book was racialist on purpose. Orcs were meant to be "asiatic", then the Horadrim were black/Arab. I know that's controversial as fuck these days but at least try to reuse characters right.

    • @georgecostanza7990
      @georgecostanza7990 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Nazgul I mean they at least could've had an alliance with Haradrim and good orcs. After the fall of Sauron the orcs chilled out and were given some land to farm so they could have "good orcs" as well, so if they are just going to recycle people and things from completely different point in the Lotr timeline why not have that? Didn't see that either, so it's not being inclusive enough I guess.

      Even the first game was like that. The little Tarzan-ass Dwarf, random ass fauna, Uruk-Hai misnomer...these games aren't officially part of the Mythos, as far as I can tell. As for the black man, it's cool, but since it IS European folklore there should be a REASON that he is a GONDORIAN (e.g. moved up from the South, refugee family, rescued from the Corsairs of Umbar, etc...). Much like most Medieval stories explain that dark skinned characters are actually Moorish pirates or travelers, so should be the same in Legendarium fiction. Much like the history of Earth (provided I am not corrected by afro- or indo-centrists) there would not be a random black man in Norther England in the late 10th century unless he was a traveller or companion of the Vikings, pirate, etc...

    The shadow of mordor games are non-canon. The games shit over Tolkien's law for example Men have the gift of death, the idea of them returning from death goes against the lore. For elfs they cannot return from the dead as wraiths.
    YET I can maturely acknowledge that this game was non-canon. I bought the old game because it had decent game play.
    People on here are triggered over a black character? LOL... even though what? The shadow of war has Balrogs living in mordor when only Durins Bane was known to survive the first age and that a new ring of power is going to be forged?
    If people are pointing to the black character saying 'its destroying Tolkien's lore' WHEN the last game already did that AND when there are far worse lore breaking aspects of this trailer.... then these people are hypocrites. If you're prepared to play these games when they have characters and plot points that WRECK Tolkien's lore... yet declare a boycott of the game because 'OMFG BLack there is a black character' THEN cut the shit... you don't care about Tolkien's lore. If you did you would have boycotted the last game AND you would have mentioned the WORSE things that contradict Tolkien's lore in this trailer.
    These people fixated on the black character are as bad as the SJW's. When political agenda affects the playable content of a video game I can get on board with a boycott BUT to attack a game that is already considered non canon just because a character is black.... that's complete bullshit. If shadow of war has good game play then the developers did nothing wrong because the game is declared non cannon. So could all these triggered losers grow up?

      @AtheistBulldozer 7 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      + Don'tHateMe CauseYou'reWrong
      You know when you go for the player instead of the ball you no longer play the game. Personal attacks come from feelings, arguments come from facts. Thus SJW's make personal attacks - they don't want to play the game... make the argument because they suck.
      Nothing I said came from feeling I was just pointing out the facts. ]
      Your response was completely emotional. You are a triggered loser, go to a safe space and clam down.

No one likes it when you just throw a black guy in a movie or game (especially a LOTR game where there really aren't black people in the lore... at all) so you can say it's diverse. "The Haradrim, known in Westron as the Southrons and once as the "Swertings" by Hobbits, were a race of Men from Harad in the region of Middle-earth directly south of Gondor. Before that, in the First Age, ""the Atani from whom the Haradrim descended were known as Black Men."" A part of the histories of the Westlands is given to the fierce people who in the Second and the Third Age of the Sun, came from the hot deserts and forests of sunlands, which lay in the South of Middle-earth. These people were ruled by many and lords, until in time Sauron the Maia corrupted them and called them to war."

      I haven't gotten around to playing the first game yet, but if what I"m remembering correctly about when the series is supposed to be set and just when it's taking place, this would be *after* Sauron originally lost the One Ring during the War of the Last Alliance....in other words, this would be when Gondor is still pretty close to the height of it's power and still has a pretty firm grip over Mordor if not total control over it. At least the first game is taking place in that period anyway, the plot of the first game is kicked off by Sauron's forces returning to Mordor and starting to retake it from the Gondorian rangers and forces keeping guard over it.
      So in other words, Sauron wouldn't really be able to control or restrict access to anyone who wants to go in or out of Mount Doom.

    People don't be stupid. Nowhere in Tolkien's books/lore is it written "There are no Africans in Middle Earth". You're just looking for reasons to cry about it. Minorities are usually left out of descriptions. If I said that the Russian army consists of white-skinned men, does that translate to "No single black exists in the Russian army"? If you think there were no blacks in European lore at that time then you haven't heard about black knights in England such as Sir Morren and Alessandro de Medici, historical duke of Florence, who was black. Also a black man in the Russian empire was Abram Petrovich Gannibal. You don't hear about these men in European history but they existed! The developers of this game have the right to include or add characters of note to the lore, and he happens to be black.
    Just because you never heard of them doesn't mean they didn't exist. Racistsss

      uh..actually..there is no mention of african-like cultures in any of the books...so there is the problem.. you see... numenorians, elves, dwarves, haradrim, rhun, orcs. all the races are already mentioned in the books..there isn't a black human population in tolkien's works. this is why ppl are complaining, cuz it's anti lore. no person can be born black out of two white parents, therefore it's lorebreaking and and sad attempt at forced diversity

      Regardless of whatever arguments for or against the inclusion of a black character are being used, I have yet to see a single racist comment. Simply because one objects to the inclusion does not make that person racist. You clearly acknowledge this when you attack the argument, that no African cultures were described in Middle Earth.
      That is not a racist argument, it's an argument that the inclusion of a black character is inconsistent with the lore of the series. You might think this a bad argument, and that's fine. But to call this racism is disingenuous.

    Brown skinned and Dark skinned humans are in Middle-Earth. The Easterlings are the brown skinned people and the Haradrim are the Dark skinned people.
    As an ebony person and Tolkien fan it brings me pain to see how the Lord of the Rings fan base is treating this one character. Using words like "politically correct" or "he shouldn't exist".
    I almost don't want to consider myself part of the Middle-Earth fan base if half of it is going to be closed minded. Basically what I'm saying think before your talk because your not the only skin tone that likes Tolkien's world of Eä/Arda.

      I read and watch many historical Asian books/movies/games, as well as many Asian mythological movies/games . Guess what? All the characters in them are Asian, and there's no random white guy shoed in for diversity. It doesn't bother me at all that they don't have white people (my race) in their movies/games etc, because it wouldn't make any sense.
      It doesn't bother me that there's a black person in the game, it bothers me because a black person replaced a Gondorian officer (important to note that he was wearing important looking armor and was featured in the trailer meaning he's going to be in the main story) in the game in a specific way to make a political statement and/or to avoid being accused of racism.
      In LotR's lore, "Men of the west" are based on Europeans, Haradrims/Easterlings are based on middle easterners and the moors. There were tribes FAAAAR out from the conflict that were briefly described as dark skinned and under the control of Sauron.
      Why not have the actual dark skinned people described by Tolkien in the game? Is it because having black people be allies of Sauron and villians in the game would be racist?

    • @שמעיִשראליהוהאלהינויהוהאחד
      @שמעיִשראליהוהאלהינויהוהאחד 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Draconic Selene A lot of Asian movies I've seen do have Caucasian people in it both fictional Asian movies like The Great Wall, The Forbidden Kingdom and 47 Ronan etc... and historical movies like The Last Samurai, The Flower Wars, and The Deceivers etc...
      But you've missed the point all together, Middle Earth isn't a Caucasian world it is diverse, full of races. And to compare Middle Earth to Asian films is low because there both different. Also your wrong about Caucasian people not being in Asian films both historical and fiction.
      And it shouldn't bother you if there is a fictional character in a fictional world with a skin tone that's just a little darker than yours. And a black person didnt replace a Gondorian officer there are no black people and there are no white people in Middle Earth. Only the children of Erú Illuvitar, Elves and Men.
      Good if he's in the main story I can't wait to learn more about him and fight side by side with him.
      There's no such this as political statement there is only right and there is only wrong no in between. And it was right to put him in the story sense Tolkien never said that a dark skinned human couldn't be a Gondorian.
      Yeah I know the West is Europe and I know the Haradrim are Africa and Easterlings are Middle Easterns. But by that statement you made is a political correct statement because Tolkien said many times that his stories are not allegorical it is not right allegory to the real world.
      They might describe the man in the game, you haven't played it you don't know. Give it a chance, if your going to rant over a game just because a fictional character in a fantasy world in a video game has a skin tone that is a little darker than your on then by definition your blind and misguided by color. I won't say that your racist because I don't know but you are strange to talk this way.

    • @jonathanford7055
      @jonathanford7055 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Middle earth isn't Earth. There are Europeans (men of the the west) there are Haradrim/Easterlings (Based on Arabs/Moors/Mongols), elves, hobbits, dwarfs, and orcs. Sure, there might be some far off land where black skin color exists, but it makes no sense for there to be an officer in the Gondorian army. It's essentially the equivalent of there being an African officer in the British Empire in the 1500s before they'd even discovered Africa, as in it wouldn't happen. Also, you're acting like this is Star Wars or some such fiction. Middle Earth is a stand in for European (primarily Anglo) Mythology, would you expect to see Asians running around in Greek Mythology?
      Harad is not Africa, it is Arabia/North Africa (Far Harad is what you're thinking of, which is indeed where darker skin "half trolls" described by Tolkien live) and the Easterlings are Mongols/Eurasia. I'm not aware of any region described by Tolkien that would be Africa other than an undiscovered one further south of Far Harad.
      You are aware that most of those films you listed were produced in Hollywood, right? (I watch actual Asian produced films) Also, they're all either historical or given legitimate reasons as to why they would be in that setting. For example, the character in the Last Samurai and The Flower Wars are based on real life people and events..there's a Caucasian there in the movie because there was one there in real life. In the Great wall there character was either a trader or an explorer, both reasons work fine as thousands of whites traveled to China for these reasons during the time period (I didn't watch this).
      It won't bother me at all if the black character in the game is explained with back story and given an interesting reason why he's in the game and an interesting role that would make sense (like a tribal leader of a tribe that migrated to the area around morder to escape orc raiding parties or something? idk)
      The problem is that it's unlikely that it's the case, seeing as he was very prominently featured fighting as a Gondorian soldier.
      Nice to see you implying that I'm a racist just because I think the devs did it for political reasons, which is fairly obvious- it's been happening in many other AAA titles recently so companies can avoid being called "racist" because of the current political climate. I don't care about politics, I don't want them in my games.
      I'm not a racist, I'd be just as annoyed if this were a game based on African Mythology and there were random white people as tribe leaders or something, lol.
      But whatever, we'll see who was right once the game comes out, I hope you enjoy the game- it looks pretty awesome.

      I know Middle Earth isn't Earth but you contradict yourself when you said Middle Earth is a stand in for Europe last I checked Europe is on the Earth. Talk instead me times that his stories or not allegorical yes it may seem like the men of the west are the Europeans and the Easterlings are arabs/mongols and Haradrim are Africans/Indians but that just isn't the case. Tolkien avoid his stores like the Lord of the rings to be an allegory of World War I, originally Tolkien wrote his stories to be a mythological tale of Europe but he changed that Idea.
      You fooled yourself dude lol you said "Harad is not Africa, it is Arabia/North Africa" you said its North Africa, so yes Harad is Africa it doesn't matter it is North, South, East, West or Central. Africa is still Africa so yes the Harad are African and have dark skin. People of the Arabia have dark skin as well but not only that the moors and berbers are African.
      Yes I know those are Hollywood films and I know The Last Samurai and The Flower Wars are based off real life events, I told you that. However The Great Wall is fiction because Dragons don't exist.
      If it didn't bother you that there is a dark skinned person in a fictional video game then you never would have commented in the first place.
      I actually never implied as a matter of fact I said I didn't know if you are on or not so get your facts straight. There is no such thing as political reasons there is only good and there is only bad no neutral. And it was good to put him in the game, it brakes no written law or written code by Tolkien standards only your standards for some reason. But lucky it's not up to you.
      Yeah I'm done with this conversation.

    • @jonathanford7055
      @jonathanford7055 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      North Africa is not populated by Africans, it's populated by Arabs- therefore Harad being Arab/Moorish totally stands to reason- so no, I didn't fool myself, you're lacking knowledge of world demographics did.
      Middle Earth is not an Allegory of WW1, where are the parralels? Yes, Morder was inspired by what he saw in the trenches, but certainly not the plot.
      Nice, trying to imply I'm racist again, typical- even though I clearly said I was bothered because of a station as a Gondorian soldier, not because he's black. If he was being portrayed correctly, I wouldn't care.
      Very passive aggressive response from you, not that I'm surprised. Have a pleasant life.

There are black/light skinned appearing humans that occur in the areas of far and near Harad, and some in the far east; however to occur in what appears to be a shoe-in role to satisfy some sort of diversity requirement goes against canon! A new ring of power, a man coming back from death, and an elf being a wraith all go against Tolkein's work. Hell, even Sauron being physical is bs. BUT WHO CARES?!?! You will get to fight legions of orcs, trolls, a balrog, Nazgūl, the witch king, and Sauron as a Gondorian ranger with a ring of power in Mordor. That is like a love letter to Tolkien fans.

      Durin's Bane is not the last Balrog, it was never stated how many balrogs survived Morgoth's fall. I think everything they're doing with the wraith and the ring is bullshit, but they're doing it that to try and make their story cool. The only reason to break the plot and add a black guy is to appease the social justice type people that have been taking over gaming recently, and people have a right to be pissed off.

      An Hiro Quote from The Return of the King, "He now was destroyed; but Gothmog the luitenant of Morgul had flung them into the fray; easterlings with axes; and Variags of Khand, southrons in scarlet, and out of far harad black men like half trolls with white eyes and red tongues."

      Is that black guy 'half troll' with 'white eyes?'
      Then even if I'm wrong it's still inaccurate.

    As a huge, huge Middle Earth lore nern (let's compare our favorite characters from Silmarillion level nerd), I am perfectrly fine with all of this.
    Taking the lore as the starting point and making a new, pretty interesting story, with the freedom of not having to contain yourself in the setting (a.k.a. whatever you do, it must return to status quo because Lord of the Rings) - this is a really nice way of adapting the setting to a video game. At this point all of the canon is pretty old, familiar and loved as it is, and it's not like there is going to be more of it. So making a blockbuster level high quality fanfiction, that treats the setting with understanding and respect is great!

    Finally! Been waiting for this... looks great! One minor point... I hope the black dude being featured has a contextual reason to be there as it doesn't look consistent with Tolkienian lore and I'd hate to think you guys are compromising the integrity of the world for a cheap SJW diversity inclusion...

      Yes it stinks of politically correct appeasement - I just want there to be context and narrative integrity. If they chuck it out to please SJWs then meh... cheapens the whole show,

    I really don't want to be that guy, but I take it this is basicaly a alternate Middle Earth now, since, you know, there was not a second ring forged? Because either this ends with Talon ded and the ring ded, or this is going to be a massive detour.
    I mean I'm cool with it mind. Using a Ring Of Power to go up against the lord of darkness? Sign me up.

      Man, I don't give 2 shits if whatever race, color or gender was in tolkien's books or not. What I care abouyt is the EXTRA WEAPON OF MASS DEATH/EARLY WAR. (:

      Kylestien See I think the fact that the series is noncannon is great because it allows them to do things like make new rings of power. Some say its shitting on the lore, not, it's building new stories in a world while leaving Tolkien's original work alone.

      He likely came from Harad as the people there were described as dark skinned in the books. Or they could possibly be from the far east or the north as those areas were never described much.

    • @DagonSwe
      @DagonSwe 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Don't get me wrong this series has been beating down and raping the lore without lube since the first rumour about the first game. Men coming back from death? Elven wraiths? Yeah those are both only the tip of the ice berg but both are far bigger crimes than a black man among Gondorian troops.
      But that's beyond the point about what you wrote, because I just want to say how stupid that argument is. It's exactly like SJW saying "You have no problem with Dragons and zombie armies yet rape MUST be part of story cause realism" when talking about ASOIAF/GoT.
      It's not not about realism, it's about the world the author created. Tolkien wrote about elves, dwarfs and dragons within Middle-earth but not about straight up black people beyond small mentions of people far from the borders of Middle-earth that got even darker skin than those dark men (dark as in evil) in Harad and Rhûn who most take as being more Turkic and Middle-eastern in complexion.
      So within the realm of Middle-Earth, yes. A black man out of nowhere is abnormal while elves, dwarfs and dragons are not. Because that how the world was described and built by it's creator.

    • @SeanC
      @SeanC 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +DaongSwe nah see, that argument is pathetic because unless Tolkien specifically stated 'all humans are white skinned, as are all elves, all dwarves etc' then you see how stupid it is to complain about a black person??
      Like get your head out of your arse, if you seriously think Tolkien would have cared or made as much of a fuss as half the people here are you're deluded. There is literally no harm in including diversity in fiction.
      And if you absolutely NEED to explain it to yourself for it to make sense, why can't your mind just be "oh, whoever that character is, they obviously originate from some distant land, but they're here now." like...what is so difficult about that?
