      @Matrim42 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      @@tayzadayzah6681 Not exactly. The Athenians put the messengers on trial and then had them executed and thrown into a pit (not a well). The Spartans didn’t put them on trial, they simply threw them in a well. I was, however, wrong about it being Leonidas, it was actually his brother Cleomenes, who Leonidas would succeed a year later.

    A weakness still to this day of any Muslim army from the Middle East is their command structure, and style they fight, as opposed or the Spartans who are all about teamwork, strategy, tactics etc, if you study the wars Israel has fought and won, this will make sense to you for example, in this movie and in the real battle the Persians were confident it’s numbers wouid win quickly, by choosing that land the Spartans forced the Persians to attack through that narrow strip of land evening the odds. How 300 did as well as they did is absolutely remarkable against so many, but it’s a battle of cultures. Think about how long it takes to train a Spartan warrior since birth? How one life is so valuable, as opposed to the other side were it’s the complete opposite, if your not in the elite ruling class, your life means little if that

      If an officer dies in combat,
      For the USA, it is akin to unleashing the hounds of hell.
      US personnel on site realize the only one who knows the Geneva Convention is now dead(uh oh, Scooby), they want revenge and have the tools to do so. And have also called in multiple airstrikes.

    I believe it was Xerxes who sent a message to Sparta (in real life) saying, "If I bring my armies into your lands, I will destroy your farms, slay your people, and raze your city". Sparta (in real life) sent back a one-word response: "If." Sparta was NOT to be f'ed with. This movie takes it to another level in ways, but Spartans were the real deal.

      @cheesehands3112 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@jacobschmitt2497 He didn't have to. Sparta had already been destroyed as a standing military force by Epaminondas the generation before.
      What Philip actually did was ask the Spartans to join the rest of the Greeks, but the Spartans in their vanity refused, because if they couldn't lead (they couldn't even defeat their neighbor Messenia anymore), then they wanted nothing to do with the Persian expedition Philip was arranging. So, to shame them, Alexander would write "and all the Greeks except the Lacedaemonians (Spartans)"... such an utter insult and humiliation. Gotta love it.

Spartians used to throw their disable etc. children in the cave to die, because they would never be made good soldiers. One of the children which escape was Efialtis, who betrayed later the Spartians. Now in Greece the word "Efialtis" is synonomy with the word "nightmare"!

    As badass and cool as the Spartans are in this movie, that whole policy of holding a messenger to the message as though it's his own words just because he is the one speaking is bullshit lmao. What is homie suppose to do? "Oh in that case you probably won't want to hear all of this, I'll head on back without delivering the message" then when he gets back to his King, he can't even lie about not delivering the message because surely someone else in his traveling party will snitch on him for duty, favor, or reward. So he gets back, tells the King he didn't deliver the message and the King is like "Oh okay well we'll kill you now"
    It really just makes the Spartans seem like dumb fucking brutes who only give a shit about war, which is probably intentional considering the scene where they encounter the Athenians and ask about their professions, and well, the rest of the entire movie lol
