@@nedanother9382 The "wierdest" thing I have is most likely my HoboStove I made my self out of a couple big nails as small grill/cup rack and used cans. (like a russian nesting doll) The biggest is the grill, and the smaller and smaller are pots and the smallest is a cup where i keep some lighting equipment, knife, fork and spoon. The cup has a lid made from the used can upon opening it. As longas there is something like twigs or something to burn i can have a meal or hot drink, and the whole thing weighs less than half a kilo, including the bag. (reused aswell)

When questioned about the sieve of a tent that took on more water than the titanic. The manufacturer in writing stated to him that all of their outdoor gear are "toys" and should never be used anywhere further than the front or back yard. It was Ozark Trail actually.

Seen it around and the curiosity finally got the best of me when I bought the xframe pad about a year ago at a reduced price. I think it was about $50. Didn't come with a little pump and the valve was the more common Klimyt flip type which is compatible with a pump sack I got with their brand of inflatable raft. The pad actually works for me. I cannot afford those other pads. This packs small and has been reliable. Inflates quickly, about three breaths, if without pump. It does fit my body and I do sleep on my side comfortably, on my stomach a little less comfortably. I use a tyvek groundsheet underneath but it's very much puncture resistant. Camping in snow of the winter, I put a ccf mat between the two. Part of the appeal of the xframe was the sleeping bag would maintain some loft underneath because it would fill into those spaces. It might be true but not sure. I was pretty warm every night going from upstate ny to virginia by bike last winter. I wanted to try this because I was reading Ray Jardine and there was more emphasis on site selection and less on thick pads they had back then. Following those ideas, I'd say has helped make this weird minimal piece of gear to be sufficient.

I imagine you could use any trekking pole + portable water filter + two tubes + clip to get the same effect.

Except each section will be able to screw together to form a purpose. Roman walking sticks had a fork at the top so you could hang your bag from it and leaned it against the tree and begin battle very quickly. Mine will have light. Anything we want can be incorporated. EDC kits. You can offload a lot light volumous gear to a walking stick. It's how Italians conquered Europe

In general, body heat is maybe underutilized as far as what it can do and I think I've heard exercising bodies can make electricity too, not just heat?! (Blenders powered by bike is example of awesome.) I can see how some of those hiking poles are good at least in theory or maybe even not just in theory. The trekking pole lights absolutely seem like the kind of thing you should be able to buy separately and clip to the preferred poles you already own (and also seem like a neat idea), rather than having to buy specific poles for it. Pole filter is a bit interesting but I definitely wouldn't want to carry the extra weight in my hand, especially imbalanced. The pad is straight-up dumb and the crotch pot is laughable. You're hiking as a hobby; if you're going to suffer you might as well just stay home or, y'know, bring an extra pound or two of gear so you actually enjoy yourself...

Trekking pole / other function. Why would you want ANY extra weight in your pole? You’re just carrying around extra weight in your hands all day. The argument that the small LED light and tiny battery don’t add much weight still works when those things are in your pack. In the pack is a better place to carry weight than in your hands. Same deal for the filter. Curious to hear what the market is for people who hike long distances for multiple days but can’t bend down.

lol the crotch cooker is just too much 😂 I humped a ridiculously heavy ruck usually exceeding 80lbs for years so a little bush pot and stove isn’t really a deal breaker for me to eat something enjoyable at the end of the day my whole cook system plus fuel for 6-8 days if I’m under 6k feet comes in at 395g I can live with that for a warm tasty meal

... if your crotch produces enough heat to cook a meal, you may need to get it looked into
