Dear Tony, Thanks for being my role model from 57 to 63. We are the same age and I watched the show religiously, The Cleavers were my fantasy family. My Mother had died in 1950 but My Father was much like Ward and the Beaver was the little Brother I never gotz, (lol). I recently watched the series over again on Netflix and noticed the similarities in Our mannerisms, ( Wallys and mine that is). Thanks again for playing Wally, an upright boy with a terrific Family and the show filled a major void in my life. The best to You and Yours. Art T. Hernando Fl.
Great interview. Tony Dow can do it all, actor, director, artist, athlete. I never figured out why they chose the name "Beaver" but that show is THE show that epitomizes 1950s America. Even more than Father Knows Best. Thanks Tony!
When I was a kid way back in the 80's 😉 I identified with Wally and the Beave, but now as a Father of 3 boys I look to Ward and June for great examples of what we should strive to be as parents. I watch the show with my boys every night on MeTV via DVR and they love it as much as I did.
Tony I am 61 and grew up with you guys....never ever forget what a wonderful wholesome show...with TV today should have learned from your kind of TV!!!!
What a decent person.......I can appreciate that he turned to art in his later years. It always takes me back to a better time in America when I see him on Leave it to Beaver..................Thank you Tony, if you ever read this.........
I still watch this show every morning on MeTV once I get home from work best show ever growing up in those golden yrs of the 60s they had the best parents
what a talented and lovely gentleman all around! Wishing Tony all the best. He continues to bring us joy in the Leave it to Beaver reruns. . so glad he has found an outlet for his obvious talent and creativity in his sculpting. God bless you, Tony!
Tony as Wally was a heartthrob, and still is. Some of the words and phrases they used, "goof," "goofball," "creep," and others the show immortalized. Great acting, writing, and directing. Never to be again! Sadly!
Tony Dow was a cool guy back then and someone a kid could look up to and it looks like he's still a cool guy today. I hope his artistic endeavor is a success.
I loved watching Leave It To Beaver when I was a little girl. I still enjoy watching it!!! I get up every morning at 7am to 8am. Reruns but I still enjoy them as if it were my first time seeing the show.
It's so nice to know that Tony Dow went on to accomplish so much in his life and I just have to say that seeing him at the age of sixty seven, well, I can't help but see him at the age of seventeen in my mind!
Good guy. I loved this show and still watch it today!. I would know Tony Dow if I passed him on the street. I respect this man and the show. I wish things were like they were in the 50's when this show was on. Ward,June, Wally and the Bev Rocked!
I would DEFINITELY recognize Tony Dow on the street! He has hardly changed! Still good looking and youthful, just like his character Wally Cleaver! So there interviewer!
Thanks, Tony, for being part of such a wonderful show. You're an important part of TV history. Shows like Leave it To Beaver, Father Knows Best, and Andy Griffith actually taught morals, good citizenship, ethics, the Golden Rule, and wholesome values to viewers, and most importantly young viewers. What do youngsters learn today while watching TV --- how to curse, twerk, rob and even murder. So... much gratitude to you, Tony, for making the world a better place at that time. Oh ... and yes, I had a huge crush on you, too!
I grew up in the 80's and Leave it to Beaver came on regularly in re-runs...that's how a 50's show reminds me of my childhood and I wasn't born till late 70's lol
He is just fantastic. Warm, friendly, well spoken. I watched it despite cringing at how rude and wooden the interviewer was. How did he ever land an interview with Tony Dow!? Anyway it was really a treat to see Tony is doing so well.
Beautiful sculpturing of natural wood! Amazing talented Tony Dow! He was so wonderful as big brother Wally in Leave It To Beaver! And so handsome!!! He’s still handsome and I’m still crushing 🥰
He played a wonderful character, in a lovely show. Glad to see him again. So nice of him to give credit to the writers and directors! Enjoyed this interview very much, he sure seems like a thoughtful, considerate friendly guy,now grown up, that he portrayed. Loved learning about his wood working! Thank you!
Being a vintage tv guy, its GREAT to see Tony and the rest of the actors on Leave it to Beaver. It really is fun to watch an old show from the 50's on a period correct TV set.
Tony Dow turns 76 this year (April 13). Leave it to Beaver ran until June 1963, a few months before I was born. Hard to believe these re-runs are now pushing 60 years old, but still love to watch 'em.
we all know who tony dow is he is famous , he aged well , the interviewer has no clu about sculptor and art and how much work goes into a piece of art and what its worth tony dow is talent and a great guy
I grew up with the original show. Still a favorite of mine! Tony Dow seems like a good guy, none of the arrogance of a lot of actors, past and present. A lot of his personality comes through in his acting which made his character (Wally) so good! A passionate artist also. The interviewer should have showcased his art work more!
I wish they would make more shows like Leave it to Beaver. I grew up watching it, I am 46 with three grand daughters and they love it! I have them hooked on MeTV :D Even my grown kids watch it. Better then todays drama and crap! :D
I'd recognize him on the street. Essentially he looks the same.Heavier and grey but facially the same.I think ,and I never saw it first time around. I came to it when it was off the air on the network for a long time. The dude looks the same.
Tony Dow certainly deserved to be interviewed by someone who wasn't rude, condescending, and ignorant. I wish him (Tony) the best and a long, happy, healthy life. I'd love to have one of his sculpted pieces.
I was born back in the 50’s and that show reminded me of my childhood, the teachers, classrooms, soda fountain, playing outside and the alligator that I ordered and received in the little box. My alligator was always trying to bite me. Great show.
This show was hilarious! Wally Beaver Eddie Haskell Lumpy Gilbert Miss Landers Beaver's teacher. The brothers had a real rapport. Sure it was1950s and the Mom wore pearls in the middle of the week but it felt like a Peanuts movie. Only with real people. Holds up today. Funny
June 28, 2019 ~ Wow! Tony Dow at age 67 then and now 73. He's aged well. It appears like he's had a good and interesting life.// I loved his work shop. I did metal sculpting mostly for a hobby. The hours melt into your creations. What most people don't understand or see is all the mistakes or re-assembling of a piece of work where your train of thought is lost with hours of welding, sanding and polishing in vain. Some times it takes a pile of scrap to produce a work of art that in my eye would be appealing. I enjoyed the Trip down memory lane with tony Dow and wish him a long and happy life
Tony Dow was great in Leave It To Beaver!! Glad to know he has turned to art! That's wonderful! :) Thanks for this! Still love Leave It To Beaver To This Day!! :)
When this show was on once a week during its normal run the whole family would gather around the TV to watch. Nice to see Jerry Mathers and Tony Dow are still in touch.
"Wally" was always so sweet and humble.. and he didn't go thru that arrogant teenage period, as The "Beaver" seemed to go through, at least on the show. Although I related a lot to" Beaver", as we were closer in age.. and, I love him, too. I always loved "Wally" though, and I still do. He is still seems very sweet and still looks great ,too. I was around 4 or 5 yrs old in 1957, when "Leave it to Beaver "first aired.. and it fast became my favorite show. I still love watching it. I can watch the episodes over and over again. :) The writing and the acting is just so good. I would definitely know Tony Dow. He has aged SO well.. looks around 40, in this interview! I just love this show and all the characters. I just turned 65 this year,(2018) .. and watching "Leave it To Beaver" takes me back to a warmer, gentler, and kinder time in my life. God bless you all... With love , Jill Berry
Repent ObeyJesus my wife and I just turned 68 December 2018. We started recording Leave it to Beaver about 2-3 months ago. Brings back a lot of good memories watching with my mom and dad and my older brother Danny. The chemistry was so perfect between the Beaver and Wally. My dad would sometimes criticized. Ward Cleaver when would yell at the boys .. My mom would say Daniel it's a TV show if they're not real people LOL. My dad was a very kind gentle father. He's deeply missed. My mom never worked. Those were the days my friend we thought they'd never end. Thank you for listening sincerely Arnold Borbon Amaral
I was born just a couple of months before the show premiered in 1957 - so my memories of Leave it to Beaver are really with the syndication after the show went off the air. BUT even so, some of my earliest memories of watching TV were of this show. I'd recognize Tony anywhere - and you would certainly would know him from his voice.
It's such a shame we have lost family shows on network TV. We used to be able to sit down with kids and watch a show that was enjoyable for the whole family and more importantly fit for the whole family to watch. Compare how the kids and parents were portrayed in the 50's-80's to anything that has these relationships today. We used to see wise parents and kids who respected their parents. The parents weren't always perfect and they apologized to the kids on the rare occasions they were wrong. The kids respected their parents and their wisdom. now days they show the kids being mouthy to the parents and getting away with it and the parents are shown as idiots not worthy of respect. Perhaps if we stopped showing kid today's crap and went back to showing them being respectful of adults it would help change the behavior of kids.
katesgram You should visit www.metvnetwork.com to find out if they're available in your city? MeTV network is the #1 classic television network offering all the classic shows to which you're referring in a family-friendly, advertiser safe format. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
My mom grew up in the 1950s and she told me that Leave It To Beaver was NOT the average life style of most families back in those days. Leave it to Beaver was portrayed as an IDEAL life, not the REALITY of the 1950s. If you ever seen the movie "This Boys Life" with Leonardo Dicaprio and Robert De niro, this was more like life in the 1950s.
This interviewer os PARTICULARLY annoying to me! First of all...I don't appreciate him treating Tony Dow like he's some old resurrected FOSSIL from ancient times. Secondly, the interviewer is acting as if Tony is soooooo much OLDER than him. He said he was "only" born in 1955. HELL, that's only 5 years out of the 40's. I'm like, gimme a break dude and put some "RESPEC" on Tony's name! As far as I can see...I'm looking at one SENIOR CITIZEN interviewing another.
Still watching in 2022 Thanks Tony for all the great shows. You were a great actor & a good looking guy & now your a good looking man Best wishes always. Love leave it to beaver you were a great big brother to beaver. Wish you could of been my big brother even tho I have two older brothers you were still great.
What a remarkably dignified and self-possessed man Tony Dow is. I was a big fan of “Leave It to Beaver” and have watched reruns over and over. He is one of those persons whose personality and real character is actually close in reality to his fictional character Wally Cleaver. He even retains the masculinity and good looks that “Wally” had over fifty years ago. I think his main talent and gift--and he apparently has many--is his down-to-earth practicality and his ability to express himself so well. He is a modest man while possessing a remarkable talent in art, self-expression, recall and just plain intelligence. He does a great interview.
I am in my early 60 also, my favorite show was when Wally bought a car for $25.00, I saw it this morning, Mr and Mrs Cleaver acted the same way my mom and dad would have reacted.
I love Leave it to Beaver. Just saw 2 episodes today after Hazel. Yes, I love the old stuff. A TV neighborhood that the boys could roam around in and not be in fear of abduction. A clean home with yummy meals every night prepared by a mom that was always beautifully dressed. In scenes where she and Ward were going somewhere, June would stop and say 'I have to change first'. I did notice the less obvious with this show. Beavers friend Larry was always getting beat by a father we never saw. Wally and the Beaver seem to live in fear of their father thus leading them to lie in many episodes. Wally and his coming of age seem to unsettle his mom some. Then there was Eddie. A wise guy covering up his feelings of being unloved at home by his father. My favorite episode was the 1st with the baby gator. It prompted me to send away for a seahorse from Miami that NEVER came. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this show.
I saw Tony and Jerry at a Potawatomi (Milwaukee Casino) photo signing about 10 years ago. They were both very nice. I had a Stereo Realist camera and took their photo. Tony asked, "Is that a 3-D camera? That's cool!" So whenever I show someone the stereo slide I took, I tell people Wally said "That's cool." How awesome is that?
metvfresno .. I was Soooooooooooooooo upset when Leave it to Beaver was taken out from TWO Episodes at 8 am to only ONE!!! I would LOVE to see episodes in the early evening and late too. Also, on the WEEKENDS !!! Many of my family and circle of friends would love it too! It's many people's FAV show from that time! We could watch it over and over again!!!! Please bring on more episodes times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tony Lee Dow (born April 13, 1945) is an American film producer, director, sculptor, and television actor. He is best known for his role in the television sitcom Leave It to Beaver, which ran in primetime from 1957 to 1963.
I grew up watching this great show. It is timeless! I believe America was a better place in those days and programs like LEAVE IT TO BEAVER were humorous and entertaining without resorting to the potty humor that is so prevalent in TV shows today. I think reality shows are simply annoying and I can't imagine being so. bored I that I could ever watch an episode of junk like "Family Guy"! Do people let their kids watch this stuff and what kind of . I.Q. do these people have ?
The writing and directing was ELITE. The show WAS written from the kids POV and what the adults did in their lives was ancillary. The production value of the show was high. That is why you can watch LITB now and still find it entertaining.
This guy interviewing Tony Dow is clueless to say the least. He shouldn't be interviewing anyone especially wonderful people such as Tony Dow. Where does he get off insulting a TV icon such as Mr. Dow? He should be ashamed of himself as should the producers of this interview with the questions he asked and his total rudeness. Anyway...I grew up watching Leave It To Beaver and still watch it all the time on Netflix. I can surely relate to every episode in one way or another. Thank you Tony Dow!
I never watch contemporary shows-sex, nudity, drinking, murder, mind blowing stupidity. I only watch old shows. "At bedtime , I watch couple of episodes of "Leave it to Beaver" and that puts me in a good place and I fall asleep easier.
This was one of the first shows about nothing. Beaver and Wally go for a drive, and there was twenty minutes or so of great stuff that followed. It never has gotten old to me. 9/3/1952
No, not EVERYONE knows who he is!?! I was born early 1960’s but we didn’t own a TV so I didn’t watch much TV!?! I only discovered this show bcoz of METV!
My favorite show. My mom and dad were just like Ward and June. My mom very pretty and dad very handsome. Oh I'm black too and had the perfect family growing up. We weren't poor either. Upper middle class. Perfect neighborhood also. Perfect school. Right in my neighborhood. Tree lined blocks. I had very nice siblings that I love very much. I was Beaver. LoL.
Yea, Tony Dow. What a cutie. I wonder if the cast realized that they were part of the largest pulpit ever for back then. Hugh Beaumont's influence on the subject matter was such a Sunday School lesson. Great stuff.
Calm your horses down. The host meant no disrespect and was very gracious to Tony. I know, as I created and produced this show. Unfortunately, I was only on set that day for about 10 minutes as I had to attend a wedding. This was a totally impromptu and unscripted interview at a charity event and the entire crew comprised of millennials who had no clue who they had on set. The interviewer’s comments were directed more at his crew then his intended audience - MeTV viewers. Just enjoy the interview and the opportunity for the glimpse into the life of one of televisions most beloved stars. The host was just as nervous and star struck as you may have been had Tony walked into your living room. And while the show went on for nearly 2000 episodes and we interviewed many more famous personalities, we’d only been on air a couple months at this point. Everyone is a critic, something that has become so prevalent in today’s woke society, but we fail to realize… just what dumb question or thing might we say if someone as famous as Tony Dow walked into our living room. Just saying…
Fun to see what Tony Dow is up to these days. Bad interviewer, though. Interrupted Tony a lot. On a technical note, I know it's a low budget show, but separate clip on lapel mics would have worked a lot better than a hand held mic going back and forth. Hard to listen to a conversation when you can only hear one person at a time. Tony would be answering a question, and he would pull the mic away.
Life changes. We only had 3 networks. Yes sometimes it is hard to know what to watch sometimes. Instead of being depressed, we need to improvise and enjoy life.
Love this man!! But please, Tony, get rid of the beard. Men over 40 do not look good with white beards. Other than that he has gorgeous legs and is still very beautiful! I love the way he always runs his finger over his nose. He's always had that mannerism and its very endearing.
he seems super cool and laid back. i wonder if tony ever tried to have a hit record? hugh beaumont played detective michael shayne in the movies before that. malos is strictley a pr guy, doesnt sound like he ever saw l.i.t.b.
He was also on a episode on the tv show called - Beyond Belief : Fact or Fiction - at that time the host was Jonathan Frakes ( Or Commander Riker - Star Trek ).
Wow it`s really good to see Tony Dow. His voice still sounds like it did when he was in his late teens on the show... He sort of looks like Kenny Rogers now . The interviewer sucks.
Dear Tony, Thanks for being my role model from 57 to 63. We are the same age and I watched the show religiously, The Cleavers were my fantasy family. I still watch Leave It to Beaver wish they aired little rascals on Antenna TV
I found Rascals on Pluto Tv (free on the internet and on Samsung Smart Tv) for an hour every morning. 😉😁🤗
My favorite was the late Sue Randal. She played Miss Lamders.
She died early of lung cancer. So very pretty
She was a very pretty woman and seemed genuinely nice. So sad to hear she died so young.

SEFY
Tony Dow was born in "April 1945" NOT 55... Jerry Mathers was born in 1948.
Ok boomer.lol
Im one too.
Lol.. I just watched that episode again, too!
a great cast and great writing made Leave it to Beaver a success. Good to see that Mr. Dow is enjoying life and being creative these days.
Cathy Meyer 55
cute, he still rubs his nose like in Leave it to Beaver. I watch this show every day.
So do I. And I love that mannerism he still has.. So cute.
Tony also stared in "Never Too Young" a daytime serial that aired on ABC from 1965 to 1966, the first soap opera geared towards a teen audience.
Tony Dow (Wally) I wish you would have been my older brother. 👍
metvfresno .. I was Soooooooooooooooo upset when Leave it to Beaver
was taken out from TWO Episodes at 8 am to only ONE!!! I would LOVE to
see episodes in the early evening and late too. Also, on the WEEKENDS
!!! Many of my family and circle of friends would love it too! It's
many people's FAV show from that time! We could watch it over and over
again!!!! Please bring on more episodes times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still love leave it to beaver!!! And Im over 50.
At 17:07, Eddie Haskell in his prime! Heh, heh, heh. Ken Osmond really KILLED that role!!
Tony Lee Dow (born April 13, 1945) is an American film producer, director, sculptor, and television actor. He is best known for his role in the television sitcom Leave It to Beaver, which ran in primetime from 1957 to 1963.
I always liked Tony and sounds like he really likes working with his hands more and creating.
I grew up watching this great show. It is timeless! I believe America
was a better place in those days and programs like LEAVE IT TO BEAVER
were humorous and entertaining without resorting to the potty humor
that is so prevalent in TV shows today. I think reality shows are simply
annoying and I can't imagine being so. bored I that I could ever watch
an episode of junk like "Family Guy"! Do people let their kids watch this
stuff and what kind of . I.Q. do these people have ?
Im only 13 but i came across "Leave it to Beaver" on netflix and im up to the 3rd season and i love it!
Maddy1312 That's awesome!
It is truly sad these GREAT talents don't make a dime from the endless re-runs.
I still watch it on ME TV AT 8 TILL 9 IN THE MORNINGS , IN BALTIMORE.
Im also born in 1977 and have to agree with EVERY SINGLE WORD YOU POSTED!
The writing and directing was ELITE. The show WAS written from the kids POV and what the adults did in their lives was ancillary. The production value of the show was high. That is why you can watch LITB now and still find it entertaining.
Like Tony Dow’s shirt!
I've only seen this guy in a couple television commercials since the first series "Beaver"
Thank you Tony Dow!
the host is a total dope!
im 24 and dam this show still funny was a more innosent time yes
I never watch contemporary shows-sex, nudity, drinking, murder, mind blowing stupidity. I only watch old shows. "At bedtime , I watch couple of episodes of "Leave it to Beaver" and that puts me in a good place and I fall asleep easier.
Rest In Peace Tony Dow you are going to be missed by tons of fans including myself
I have to disagree with the commentator, I would easily recognize Mr. Dow from a crossed a crowded room.
This was one of the first shows about nothing. Beaver and Wally go for a drive, and there was twenty minutes or so of great stuff that followed. It never has gotten old to me. 9/3/1952
I watch Leave it to Beaver everyday 8am on WE CH
Almost everyone knows who Tony Dow is! Can’t say the same for this interviewer!
❤️Tony❤️
What a Cynical thing to say Gail: Are you a Democrat watching and believing CNN ?????
No, not EVERYONE knows who he is!?! I was born early 1960’s but we didn’t own a TV so I didn’t watch much TV!?! I only discovered this show bcoz of METV!
I would recognize him....
foxonesplash has
still looks good had such a crush on him i was prob beavers age
I think Hugh Beaumont was a pastor.
Yeah! The interviewer has some nerve! I agree. Pointing out how you wouldn’t recognize Tony now! Arrogant and demeaning! Wow!
Hey cuz, good to see you again.
For lack of a better term, the show succeeded because it had heart.
Amen!
Love this man!! But please, Tony, get rid of the beard. Men over 40 do not look good with white beards. Other than that he has gorgeous legs and is still very beautiful! I love the way he always runs his finger over his nose. He's always had that mannerism and its very endearing.
justess martin What !! how about Santa Clause.
I know! I always loved how "Wally" would do that with his finger.. Love him!! So sweet .
amazing artist
Yes, he is.. very talented in so many ways.
he seems super cool and laid back. i wonder if tony ever tried to have a hit record? hugh beaumont played detective michael shayne in the movies before that. malos is strictley a pr guy, doesnt sound like he ever saw l.i.t.b.
Truth be told, when Tony Dow was hired to play his role in the show Leave it to Beaver he was not an actor, rather an athlete.
Tony are you out there.
He was also on a episode on the tv show called - Beyond Belief : Fact or Fiction - at that time the host was Jonathan Frakes ( Or Commander Riker - Star Trek ).
Of Course I know who Tony Dow is-- I heard his name every day when I watched LITB Starring :TONY DOW!
Wow it`s really good to see Tony Dow. His voice still sounds like it did when he was in his late teens on the show... He sort of looks like Kenny Rogers now . The interviewer sucks.
chris thomas i agree with every point you made.
Except Tony is a hundred times better looking than Kenny Rogers ever was.(no offence to Kenny) Sorry.
